REV'IT! Tracer Overshirt Videos

REV'IT Tracer Shirt

The REVIT Tracer Overshirt is a new approach to rider protection. It's not always convenient to put on a heavy jacket to go for a ride and it is way too easy to just throw on your favorite flannel or over shirt and go for a ride. REV'IT! has given us the Tracer Shirt to take away the choice between riding comfortably, stylish and protected. This Cordura denim shirt is is reinforced with strategically placed PWR | shield, while extremely thin, CE-rated Seesmart protectors ensure impact energy is absorbed in case of an unfortunate mishap. To maintain the casual appearance of the Tracer, REV'IT! has incorporated a zipper hidden behind a row of buttons and the stretch shell keeps you comfortable no matter what riding position you find yourself in. This beefy riding shirt also comes equipped with a connection zipper for REV'IT! pants or the Safeway belt and a pocket for a Seesoft back protector. Hidden reflective material is nearly invisible during the day but gives you some much needed visibility at night.

Protection Features:

  • Outer Shell: 11oz Cordura denim

Fantastic jacket / shirt with great protection
First off, this is more a jacket that looks like a shirt. It's thicker & heavier than I thought it would be. Also, it's called dark blue but definitely looks dark charcoal to me. It looks like waxed black denim...which has a sheen to it. Looks awesome. Youi can't see the armor at all. Reflectors are bright & a nice touch. Quality is top notch. I loved the work shirt look to it.

Problem for me is the fit. I'm 5'10" 165 lbs & wear medium in just about everything (size 40 Jackets usually). This fit great in length, neck and chest but the sleeves are so tight I could barely get my arm in. And once in it practically cut the circulation off in my arm the armpits are so tight! Really uncomfortable. Reach for your handlebars and it's even worse. Sadly I'll be returning this. Not sure the large would fix that, and if it does, I'm afraid the chest / stomach would be too big. Weird. It's not like I've got big arms / guns or anything. Disappointing too bc I was really looking forward to a protection shirt with a vest for summer riding besides just a t-shirt. I didn't take this for a ride since I'm returning it but I do not think it would honestly really be that much cooler in temp during summer time than my leather jacket with vents.

Almost perfect
I have owned this jacket for about a year now, so this is my long term review.

First, the fit is slim, which is great for a tall skinny guy like me. It fits like a slightly oversized, slim fit dress shirt. Long, slim sleeves and torso. The slim fit means you won't be layering anything, but it also keeps the armor where it should be.

Second, as others have said, this is heavier than you might think. That initially bummed me out, but now I am happy about it. It feels that much more likely to keep your skin in tact if you go for a slide. I do not run hot, so I can wear this in basically any temperature and feel fine, as long as I'm not in stop and go traffic getting no breeze.

Third, the armor, assuming it works as advertised, is brilliant. Basically impossible to tell that it's there. I can't feel it when I walk around, or on the bike, I can't see it sticking out, absolutely brilliant.

Fourth, the weird camo lining sucks. This is probably my biggest complaint. It is actually pretty scratchy, and uncomfortable. One of the biggest reasons I wanted a piece like this is because I am an ATGATT rider. The crappy lining is a lot less uncomfortable than wearing one of my heavy (RSD and Oscar Brass) jackets in 85 degree weather, so I guess I won't complain, but the lining is so bad you might think it was meant to serve as some kind of abrasion resistant fabric, but I don't think that's the case.

Fifth, my other complaint is I'd love to have at least one internal pocket for my phone or wallet. The lining is there, I think they could accomplish this without throwing off the lines of the jacket any.

Sixth, style - at least to me - is great. As I mentioned, I am an ATGATT rider, but the vain part of me wishes I looked cooler like I don't give a damn, and when it's hot out I'm not going to wear some big, obvious, heavy moto jacket. This looks enough like a casual work shirt while you are scooting down the road to fit right in with the "It's hot and I don't give a damn" crew. I have some very discriminating taste. At least 75% of moto gear all looks the same to me - stupid black on white on black logos, super boxy fits, overly agressive pre curved sleeves etc. It's like the moto equivalent of the group of guys that show up at the coffee shop with their shaved legs/spandex shorts, plastic bicycle shoes, etc. and who are just super enjoying looking the part of this hardcore cyclist. To me it's just ridiculous. I don't buy and/or keep a piece of moto gear unless it's as equally at home on the bike and off. This fits that bill.

Lastly, after a year of wearing this regularly (even as a jacket I would go out in for some tacos and margaritas with the lady, not on the bike) it is still in great condition. I damp wipe anything off that might get on there and it's as good as new.

A note on sizing, I bought a large and it fits great. I am 6'4 and 160lbs. While that may sound scary to the 6' 195 lb guy considering this coat, I am able to wear a lot of clothes well, as long as their more fashion oriented (seven slimmy's, Levi's 511's, slim fit stuff from boss, banana, etc.) I have a 40" chest, 32" waist, obviously skinny, but based on being tall I have a wide wingspan, supported by wide shoulders that help to fill out size large in most things. Where I run into trouble is baggy shirt sleeves that are cut into the middle of the torso, or pants with space for big hips, etc. This jacket has none of those types of issues.

Random note - I can actually throw my RSD back protector in this and it fits pretty good and is not real noticeable.

Tremendous
This overshirt is great. It's a little thicker than I thought it would be, making it feel a bit more like a jacket than a shirt but it definitely looks like a shirt. You can't roll the sleeves all the way up off the bike but you can roll up the cuffs to be a little more comfortable. At 6'2, 195 lbs, the large fit me just right. If they made this is numerous colors, I'd probably buy them all.

Love it, but wish it was either warmer or cooler
Right now it's my favorite piece of gear because it looks like i'm not wearing any gear at all and can/have worn it while hanging out without anyone noticing. The problem is that it's not warm enough for cold weather and not cool enough for hot weather - works well in 60 - 75 degree weather

Damn... I love this jacket
Right out of the box I was a little discouraged. The jacket felt much heavier and substantial than originally envisioned for an “over shirt”. The fit is very European, I stand 5’7” at 155 lbs (slim/athletic) and the Medium fit me snug, unfortunately I cannot fit a back protector, it becomes unbearable when even slightly leaned over. I feel like one size up and the fit would have been too long and baggy. Temperature range is subjective, but I can comfortably were this thing on a sunny 65 degree day (with a thermal undershirt) all the way up 80 degrees while in motion. The front chest pockets are small, can’t hold a modern cell phone. The features and a bit sparse, but the cool factor is undeniable. Took a spill while wearing the jacket and it did its job admirably. Washed the jacket and I can barley tell it saved my hide in low side. I would highly recommend this jacket to anyone looking for some protection while riding without looking like a sponsored rider.

for sizes L and XL get the RV05 NOT the RV04 back protector
Great jacket, looks and fits as described. However the back protector recommended on the site shows RV04 but on the garment it recommends RV05. LOVE the shirt! its actually like a thin jacket.

Great jacket!!!!
This is a great jacket for everyday riding. I ordered a size large and the fit is perfect for my 6'2", 170 lbs build. On cooler days I can layer a hooded vest underneath. I would like to see an inside pocket and snap buttons -- these two additions would make the jacket a lot more functional

Can't wait to hit the road in this!
Very happy with this product, it's exactly what I was after for shorter trips on the bike. The included elbow and shoulder armour sits well in place and the quality of the fabric, stitching, zips and buttons is quite good.

As most of the reviews note, this is a rather tight fit around the chest and arms, I think this is done to make sure the armour sits in the right place. Basically this fits me as I'd want any button up shirt to fit me, however because of the toughness of the Cordura Denim and the added pads I don't really have room to lift my arms while it's zipped and buttoned up. But it's for riding and in the riding position it feels good. Once you're off the bike you can unzip if you really need a better range of motion.

I'm 6'1, 180 pounds with a 38" chest and bought a Medium.

If you like your clothes tight you'll love it, if you want to wear anything other than a light t-shirt under it, buy a size up.

Great Style, Functionally lacking
I am torn on this one. I love the way it looks, and once I found the right size it is very comfortable. Be warned I found it fits really small, I am a 44 chest and pretty much have average sized arms, at least I tell myself that! I do have wide shoulders so even an XL was slightly tight in the shoulders and the arms were really tight in any position other than straight down. Since I tend to move my arms, I went to an XXL... a size I never wear. Fit well after that.

The reason I am torn is that I feel that it fits like a jacket, feels like a jacket, and looks like a jacket on I would guess most people. So the lack of some of features of a jacket I think is a miss. But I do realize the lack of those features makes it look cool. :)

I found the two outer pockets useless. The buttons are really difficult to open and you really can't fit anything in them. While the lack of bulk enhances the style... which I really like, it leaves you with no place to carry anything.

Some subtle venting would be nice. I sometimes open my sleeves on other jackets for air flow, but the way the opening sits around the cuff, it does not really allow for it. You will end up with giant air scopes around the wrists, and not the good kind... if that is even a thing.

It also feels like solid construction, but I am no expert there..
So far things have stayed where they ought to, so well done.

I do recommend it tho... I have a light weight mesh vest for carrying things that I use anyway and if the lack of pockets and reduced air flow is not a big concern, it looks and feels great!

My New Favorite Jacket, On & Off the bike!
At first I was a little skeptical about buying it, but as soon as it arrived I knew I made the right decision. It's closer to gray than navy blue (I actually like that aspect) and has a great cut to it. It pairs well with everything, from casual to professional. I have gotten tons of comments about how great it looks, it really sends off a masculine vibe. It's a little heavy for southern California weather, but I don't mind it too much. I really wish it had another set of pockets. I always find myself needing space for my phone and wallet, and breast pockets just don't cut it. Overall, I am incredibly happy with my purchase, the quality is fantastic, the look is great, and the comfort is good. Highly recommend, especially at its price point.

What size should I purchase? I'm 5'7" 39" chest. Average build.
Paolo J on Feb 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Depending on how you want it to fit. I like a tight fit and have a medium, I'm 6'1 and have a 38" chest. By the sounds of it you're right on the line between a medium and large. So if you want it tight go M if you want some room (perhaps to wear a hoodie under it or whatever) go L. Hope that helps!
How breathable is this? Is it comfortable in hot weather, like 80+ and humid?
Christopher H on Sep 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have been riding with this Jacket since June and we don't get really humid here in the Pacific Northwest atleast not compared to the east coast. So I can't really comment on the humor part even though I realize that's a BIG part of that equation.

I have riden in the upper 80's. It does not stop the wind completely but it is pretty wind resistant and with no vents I found I was unzipping in a lot when the temps were over 80.

I have to admit I am really intolerant of the heat, but I was never super uncomfortable or sweating so I feel the jacket is really warm in the upper temps but not oppressive.

Biggest word of caution is that since there are no vents you don't have any options other than unzipping if you do find yourself over heating. Except ofcourse... Speeding up. :)
Would this work under a leather jacket with no armor?
Richard C on Apr 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, but what would be the point? As an alternative to a jacket for casual riding it's great
Is the patch on the arm leather?
A shopper on Jul 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, the logo square is rubber, and it's sewn on to the larger patch of velcro.
Does the collar flap when riding?
Edward W on May 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Nothing on this shirt flaps in the wind The material is actually much thicker and heavier that I expected. Still looks great but is durable. One of my favorite pieces to wear riding. It has both buttons and a zipper so when it's hot you can control how much you button up
The product info says it's "double layered at the elbows" does that mean the whole body is covered, with a second layer at the elbow, or that there are just two layers of protection there, and the rest of the jacket is the denim material?
Jeff A on Jun 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The exterior of the jacket is one layer of denim material (it does not have a second layer on the outside at the elbows). So if it is double layered there it would be on the interior where you cannot see it. They could be referring to the part where the seesmart protection slips in as the "second layer." Hope that helps...
I wear size 52 for dainese air flux jacket. what size would be perfect to me?
A shopper on Apr 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I would contact the gear geeks, but I measure 42" across the chest, stand 5'7", and weight in at 155 lbs, a trim athletic build and the medium fits me like a dream (I prefer a fitted appearance). I have no room for a hoodie underneath, but could slip on a thermal undershirt with no problem.
It have connection with rev'it Safeway belt ?
Yilmar V on Mar 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it does have a zippered connection to attach with the Safeway belt.
