REV'IT Sand 3 Pants

Like the Sand 3 Jacket, the Sand 3 Pants are made out of a tough combination of polyester ripstop and PWR shell material to make them ready to withstand serious use and abuse. You retain the ability to remove both the cozy thermal liner and the hydratex waterproof liner when the temperature climbs, allowing the massive VCS-zippered vents to do their job.

Improved proprietary SeeFlex open net knee armor is more breathable than its predecessors, while also earning the highest CE Level 2 certification for limb protection. The Sand 3 Pants also use SeeSmart Level 1 armor in the hips to maintain the lowest profile, most flexible feel while still providing lowside impact protection.

Zip the REV’IT! Sand 3 Pants to your Sand 2 Jacket and put the kickstand up with confidence knowing you are ready for whatever your adventure has in store.

Loved everything about the pants. Fast shipping. Sizing is small

I ordered these pants in a "MD Short" based off of the sizing chart provided. My normal work pant size is 34Wx30i". I am 5' 6" without boots and 177#'s. The waist size of the sizing chart says 33.1-35". I am not sure if it is because you can adjust it between those dimensions but none the less I got the pants in three business days but was severely disappointed when i could hardly pull them over my hips and couldn't even button them. I thought that perhaps the waist strap was adjusted all the way to the smallest setting but it was on the largest setting.

I was very impressed with how comfortable they were, the quality of the workmanship and the quality of the material used. It has been pouring down rain in Seattle, WA since last summer so I was bummed to not test them out first!

I have returned them and will be ordering a LG Short. I will update with the review of the LG Short once i receive them.
[UPDATE]
I have received the LG Short pants and they fit perfect. I even have room to adjust the hip straps so they're more snug. The first thing I noticed was how comfortable they are. These are very solid pants and high quality. I wore them on a clear 44 degree morning with both the hydratex liner and the insulation liner and I was almost too warm. That same day on my commute home it was about 68ish degrees and I removed both the hydratex liner and the insulation liner and I was nice and cool. I have not wore them in the pouring down rain yet but we'll see next week.

The knee armor seems to be a little low while standing up even though i think i have the armor raised to the highest setting. The knee armor lines up when i sit down on the bike and I can pull the pants up a little more to get them to sit higher.

I'm very impressed with these pants and will be saving for the Sand 3 jacket as a riding suit is what i was looking for to begin with.

[Update 1/25/2018]
The hydratex liner has sprung a leak in the crotch. But thanks to Rev'It's 2 year warranty and RevZilla's stellar customer service, a new liner is on the way. Only thing i needed to do was to send pictures of the liner. I wear these pants every day and until now the pants have been 100% water proof with the liner. I remove the hydratex liner when rain is not in the forecast so to not put additional strain on the liner seams when it isn't needed but that didn't seem to help prevent leaks. The white color pants wash very easily which i was a little concerned about. Remove the knee and hip armor as well as all the liners before washing and don't use fabric softeners.
These pan'ts are really hot in warm weather if you're stuck in traffic. If you're moving in warm weather and the zipper vents are zipped down, they are great.

Great 4 season pants
Recently picked up the entire Sand 3 suit, starting with these pants. Bought these primarily for warm weather dual sport riding, but naturally was caught in a freak cold rain storm when it was supposed to be dry and warm; the true test of any 4 season gear. They are extremely comfortable, and you barely even know the armor is there. There are too panels on the butt that stick extremely well to my seat, which is very confidence inspiring.

Just got back from Tahiti where I wore these around in 90*F+/80%+ humidity, and they performed great. Can't wait to get more time with them ,and highly recommend them!

Great Pants for sub-Gore Tex budget
I recently moved to Washington State from Texas and needed some new gear to accommodate the different climate. Texas was predominantly hot and dry, whereas WA is a cooler and it’s more likely to rain.

I wanted a Gore-Tex pant – one that I didn’t have to remove/add any liners, but I simply didn’t want to spend that kind of money on them. These are a very good compromise.

They look nice, have good protection, and fit well. Perhaps a little snug when all the liners are in, but most of my riding will be without any liners or with the rain liner in. I would not consider these an over-pant, but I suppose you could wear them that way if you sized them appropriately.

I’m 5’6” and weigh between 130 to 135lbs. I originally bought a medium-short and they were way too big, so I downsized to a small-short. Again, a tad snug, but not uncomfortable. The knee armor was just right and I didn’t need to adjust it at all.

I’ve only got about 100 miles in on them, but so far they are excellent! I opened the venting on the legs and was really surprised at how much air they moved. I was expecting a little ventilation, but it almost felt like I had a pair of shorts on! I guess when you ride in TX and it’s 105, any air is just hot. In WA it cooled me right down. I can’t comment on the rain protection, yet. I will when I get a chance to test them.

It’s a little unusual not having pockets for your hands, but the cargo pockets on the thighs are plenty big to hold your items.

So a few minor points to think about:
You will have a rain liner, and a thermal liner. They aren’t super convenient to get in and out so you would probably want to just leave one in if you think you might need it that day. The zippers for the liners can be a little annoying, so be prepared to ride with your shirt tucked.

The fly unzips, but there is a gator in the fly so the pant never truly separates and provides easy access to use the restroom. Not a show stopper, but it’s a little unusual.

They are a little difficult to get on/off, but unless you have big zippers on the legs most motorcycle pants are like that.

I’d like to see snaps on the pant-cuffs and pockets instead of Velcro.

Over-all would highly recommend, unless in you are in TX and then you might want to go for something like the Tornado 2.

All that I expected
I purchased these pants at the beginning of this past summer. I have put over 10,000 miles on them in temperatures ranging from 40° to 105°. I have ridden with them in heavy rain as well. They have performed flawlessly and have met all my expectations. The first day that I wore them, I also experienced the same issues that others did with the kneepads rubbing on my knees. After 15 minutes of adjustment and trimming the Velcro in the pockets, the problem was gone and they have been comfortable ever since.
They flow air nicely and kept me is as can be expected with black pants in direct sunlight and 105° temperatures.

They are the perfect match for my Sand 3 jacket and I couldn't be happier with them as a set. I would highly recommend this pant to anyone looking for a waterproof and protective riding pant that is comfortable for multiple seasons.

Crash Tested
Purchased these pants at the start of the season (2018). Was in a moderately severe crash where these pants saved my legs.

The Seeflex armor is no joke.

Going 50mph through intersection, truck turned right and merged into left lane (2 lane road) rather than right lane leaving no time to fully stop. Managed to swerve out of the way and missed hitting the truck head on, but the left side of my bike was still hit. Memory is a bit fuzzy, but fairly confident my left knee collided with her bumper.

At the speed, even after braking, was lucky to only get a broken kneecap. Impact protection on the pants saved it from being much much worse. On the slide afterwards, the textile handled all the abrasion suffered no road rash outside of the pants themselves rubbing (no gravel on my skin. Hip armor did its job, minimal bruising. Comparably, my GF also on the bike for the crash (No armored pants) has some serious shiners going on at the moment.

Great adventure pants
I've used these for over 10k now and I love these pants. Waterproof, ventilated (or not), thermal layer (or not) and the ability to zip onto different Rev'it jackets make this a great purchase. My only minor complaint would be that due to the way the pockets are, it's a bit difficult to acces item inside then while sitting on the bike. That and the fact that the Velcro squares are so tiny, the keep coming undone. But other than that, great pants. I've used these temperatures ranging from 110 down to 40s--definitely want all cents open and the inner linings out for hot weather riding and the opposite in cold weather (plus extra layers if you're going much colder than that).

I'd buy them again.

Best $300 Pants I Own
Let me just start this by saying I was a little sceptical of spending this much on a pair of pants, for a motorcycle or not. But I was getting cold in the morning on my commute to work, so I ordered these. The second I got them I knew they were worth every penny. I no longer freeze to death on my morning commutes and feel even more comfortable on my bike because of it. I’ve ridden in the rain a few times for 30+ minutes at a time, and these things just would not let me get wet. I live in Sacramento and it’s around December/January if that helps anyone with the type of weather I’m in.

Great Protection and Value
Definitely, with the the thermal and waterproof liners, the pants fit one size small. I am 91cm (36") at the belly button, about 90cm at my natural waist (where I bend when leaning over)and 97cm (38") at my hips - I crouched down a little and legs slightly apart to simulate sitting on the bike. Based on the sizing chart, I ordered/received Medium Short (I am 5'5", 159lbs). They fit and buttoned up, but too tight for a day on the bike. The Large-Shorts are perfect for my size/shape. I know i will not do a "long way round" or "long way down" so I think this level suit is about right for my heavy adventure (R1200GSA) riding where I'll probably be 75% road/25%fire road/truck trail. Once I got the right size, fit and range of motion is great - and the shorts work great with my 28" inseam. I would consider Klim Badlands Pro/Kodiaks as a 5 on Features/Protection, so I think this is a good second.

Measure Twice
The pants are very comfortable and work perfectly with my Sand3 jacket. One recommendation is to measure a couple of times and find the best size within the range listed in the size chart. Do not forget to consider the short and long inseams!!

My example is that with my body shape the XL size for the hips and thighs was the best fit. Due to my inseam I went with the short pant. This was perfect for me but if I stayed on the regular the pant would have been to long.

Very happy
I paired these with a REV'IT! Vapor jacket and have found them to be a great riding "suit" when zipped together. Field tested during a recent two week, 1800 mile trip through the Canadian Maritimes, these worked well in every situation I encountered. I left the zip-in rain layer installed through most of the trip because I liked the added wind-protection (I tend to get cold unless it is truly sweltering) and it was a bit of an inconvenience to have to zip them in whenever it rained - which it did somewhat regularly. I like that they came with hip armor and, after a bit of adjusting, I got the knee armor to stay situated where I wanted when I was riding. They fit well over my jeans and boots. I would definitely purchase these again.

Why do these pants only come in 2 colors and not the 4 colors of the jacket?
A C on Mar 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Because those are the most popular colors for pants and likely the colors in most demand.
Is this considered an overpant? In other words, you would wear this over say your jeans? Thanks
John M on Apr 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No i would not wear these as an overpant. They're made to be your pants and hence would be really snug over jeans or other pants. In the summer time i may wear basketball shorts under the outer shell but thats it.
How do they perform on warm weather (95°/105°F)?
They seam very hot.

Thanks
Francisco C on Jan 23, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I wore them in the Atlanta heat last summer and didn't mind them. Without the liners, they feel fairly lightweight. The leg vents work OK. And in that kind of heat, if you're wearing a jacket, you'll be too miserable to notice the pants anyway.
Will these fit over MX style boots?
Eric K on Sep 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: They should fit easily over MX style boots. Allot of adjustment built into cuffs
Are the cargo pockets still waterproof in the Sand 3 pants as they were in the Dakar pants?

BEST ANSWER: There are no zippers to seal out the water 100%. The pocket fabric is tall so when you go to close the pocket flap (which is also long) it closes over about 1/3rd of the pocket.
Do the zips leak? They have no coverage
A shopper on Apr 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Which zips? none of the outer shell zippers are taped but keep in mind the hydratex liner (that is removable) will stop any leaks from coming in contact with you. The zippers and seams are taped on the liner. No leaks for me thus far
Can the waterproof liner be worn on the outside of the pants?
A shopper on Jan 13, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The liner is designed with an upper zipper that connects to the inside of the pants. They would not be able to be attached or tightened if worn on the outside. I tried to fit them on the outside of the pants and have come to the conclusion that they could be worn like this in a pinch but would not be near as effective if they were. And, since they do not connect to the pants on the outside, there would be an issue of them sliding down while in use.
They don't look like they are going to fit over moto boots, the anwsers about MX boots don't answer the question. Adv boots are not moto boots. Does anyone with actual moto boots have these pants?

BEST ANSWER: They have velcro on the bottom of the pant leg for adjustment to different size boots. I'd say it would fit over MX boots.
What are the 4 Velkro straps at the bottom for?
A shopper on Oct 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: adjusting the tightness of the pant leg after you zip the pant legs down. you don't want them loose after you zip them down (water will get in up the pant legs and or cold air)
