Rev-It is FAILING with the details
For the record, i'd like to state that I have been wearing Rev-It products since first introduced to the U.S. Market. Generally I believe Rev-It do an outstanding job of designing excellent looking and highly functional product. Their product has become increasingly gimicky and have featured more and more details that can and have failed prematurely.

That said, the last couple of Rev-It two piece suits I have purchased have had minor flaws that when revealed become deal breakers. My previous generation suit was returned due to super fabric areas on the knees and elbows delaminating after two cold water washings. The latest product will be returned due to failures based on cost cutting, poor and inappropriate hardware specification.

Again, the failure I have experienced with these pants appears to be based on cost savings and / or poor (inappropriate) implementation of a critical feature. None would specify these components in a loaded area of a garment for any other reason.

Rev-It are charging top dollar for the features they are offering. The predecessor to this pant included a thermal layer and cost less. The same can be said for the jacket. With this latest generation of product it appears cost cutting for higher profit margin at the expense of durability and functionality has become a priority.

The problem: Two days and 900 miles into a 6500 mile trip, the waist adjustment anchor on one side of the pants tore out completely. This has resulted in my being unable to cinch the pants highly around my waist (6'3" 196 LBS 34" waist). This has resulted in an unsafe garment as they fall down easily standing let alone in a fall. This was not due to faulty construction. (I am involved in performance athletic product manufacturing professionally) The failure was due to a completely inappropriate component / design engineering decision that could only have been made to save money.

The (far too thin, 1/3 the size of what Klim and other brands are using)) plastic "D" ring anchors that secure the waist adjustment straps are sewn into the pants with a plastic flange that is part of the "D" ring. When a sewing machine punches its needle through this thin plastic flange it is creating a stress riser, allowing the plastic to easily tear on the dotted line. Kim and just about every other brand I have seen stitch a fabric or webbing loop into the seam of their garments, with bar tack reinforcements, to hold their significantly larger diameter (and stronger) "D" rings. The jacket features similar components. I have no doubt hey too will fail over time. Well outside any warranty timeline.

I will be returning the pants. Sadly, without having new stronger "D" rings installed (sewn into the pants) using webbing loops, the pants will fail and require replacement repeatedly.

Two other issues that keep these from being fantastic pants:
1) An unrealistic amount of velcro at the bottom cuff of each leg holds dirt, requires careful alignment and does not secure the cuff as effectively as a single wider rectangle of velcro.
Older, far more simple Rev-It closures (with just one big rectangle of velcro) were far more effective at holding the cuff closed. Additionally the current use of multiple velcro strips looks silly. The money saved by eliminating a large portion of the unnecessary (costly) velcro would have afforded the "D" rings to be properly executed.
2) The sewn in lining material (not the gore tex liner) n the cuff is not adequately secured inside the outer shell material. It is always hanging out of the bottom of the pants by 1/2" or more.
Looks bad. PITA to put the pants on and take them off, gets the inside of the pants dirty.

Get it together Rev-It. You do so well so much of the time.
These failures make the product unusable or compromised.

Had to get the new version
Full disclosure, I have many Revit products so I’m biased to the positive on their products. I own the previous generation of Defender pants and jacket so I have a fair comparison to the new Defender Pro GTX.

The new Defender pro is a bit more close fitting than the previous similar sizing, partially due to the elimination of the thermal liner. In my case dropping the thermal liner improved the utility for me since I use heated gear to manage body temperature at low riding temps.

I have no problem with the new waist closure but still prefer the previous closure system.

I really like the new back venting system in the pants. In my limited use of the venting it’s superior to previous single vent on the front. The previous defender wasn’t bad in high temps but these should be much better.

I also really like the front pants pockets. I regularly forget to zip close pants pockets on the previous defender where the pocket opens sideways and these pockets are more horizontal where nothing would fall out if I forget to zip the pocket.

The current defender loses the superfabric protection on the knees. While the superfabric was nice protection it also required me to protect the bike from the abrasion from the pants. The new pants won’t be a concern.

I realize the are expensive pants but they met all my needs for long distance riding kit.

Overall, I really like both the new Defender PRO pants and jacket.

Well made product
I have the matching jacket for the pants and what I say in my review there is the same for the pants except I felt no cold at all riding with these pants and the gore tex liner in. Sizing, RevZilla staff were right on again. I wear a large tall. 34" inseam with a 36-37" measurement at my widest point from belly button to my butt (yeah I actually have one and it is a pain to get good fitting garments). I was more than comfortable at 50 degrees with liner in at excessive highway speeds and in 83-85 degree traffic with vents open and liners out. They will not match mesh pants in summer but those pants I have never found warm enough for the cool mornings. I will likely look for a pair of mesh come summer riding but for now these are great.

Armor fits exactly where it is supposed to and the cinching in the calf area holds it in place for the knee. The hip armor is a nice touch, even if a bit awkward, as many don't offer. The liner easily zips in and out.

Simply put you are getting a very high quality garment here that I feel will protect me well in the event of an off. Heavy 1000d cordura in high impact areas with the see soft level 2 Armor is very important to me as this will be do it all gear from touring, commutting and adventure/dirt.

Nice pant upgrade
I upgraded from the original Revit Sand pant. Really like the armor it is much more substantial than my previous pants. The 2 vents per leg really work well and rain protection has kept me dry so far. I do miss the cargo pockets that the Sand pants had though.

Outstanding Comfort and Protection, but Pricey
The Rev’it Defender Pro pants is a highly-protective, comfortable pants that can be worn over a wide temperature range. I use it for commuting as the zipped up shell keeps me warm during morning rides (tested as low as 55 degrees) and the open vents cool my thighs in the afternoon (tested up to 85 degrees). I suspect the inner Goretex liner will provide the wind-breaking barrier I will need to ride comfortably in the late fall and early spring.
Sizing: I’m 5’9”, 155 lbs, 32” waist, 29” inseam, and the medium-short fits perfectly. I really appreciated having a short-length to choose from, so that the knee armor is positioned properly and hemming is not required.
Pros: The pants has a high-quality premium feel and appearance that is very comfortable. The waist cinches, elastic knee straps, and velcro hem strips help to tailor the fit. The zippered front pockets safely hold my wallet and keys, and the short-connection zipper pairs perfectly with my Olympia jacket. The protection is phenomenal with the massive CE level-2 knee armor, flexible CE level-1 hip pads, and abrasion-resistant 1000D PWR fabric. If Anthony can walk away from an 80 mph slide wearing the old Defender pants, then I’m sure this improved version will be more than enough for my commuting and touring rides.
Cons: These pants cost a lot. I was really hesitant to spend so much, but I’m glad I did. My safety and health are really important to me.
Overall: The Rev’it Defender Pro pants has an outstanding fit, is super protective, and has the versatility to keep me warm during my morning commute and cool in the afternoon. I highly recommend it.

Comfortable and nice features with a few gripes
As a 6'5" tall rider, I am always in search of well-fitting gear, not to mention bikes. My height is mostly in my legs. I wear 36x36 jeans in Levis 511, which as far as I can tell are sized accurately, unlike many modern garmets which lie a little about the size of your waist. These pants fit me well in XL Tall with room to cinch the waist adjusters down about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way. Leg length is fine and the expander panels above the knees keep the cuffs from pulling up in the riding position. They do pull up a little on my 900SS, but I also look like a circus monkey on that bike, so it's no fault of the pants.

These are true pants, not overpants. With the liners in, there's no room for street clothes underneath, though you could wear lightweight shorts. Cycling undies and a set of close fitting thermal tights fit just fine though, and even with only long motorcycle socks underneath, I've stayed plenty warm in 40-50 degree temperatures. I have not ridden yet with the liner out to comment on ventilation but the mesh panels and exhaust ports look like they will flow plenty of air.

These are expensive pants and gripes should be minimal, but I do have a few. The zip-out liner and inner cuff material tend to bunch around the bottom of the cuff, I need to take the liner out to investigate what might be done there. It's not a deal killer, just a nitpick. As another reviewer mentioned, the velcro panels for cuff adjustment are silly. Just put one big patch of velcro down there, slap the cuff shut and go riding. That said, I haven't had any trouble with the velcro coming loose. I do appreciate the calf adjuster snaps, nice touch.

Finally, the biggest oversight in my opinion is the placement of the male snap to hold the thigh vent panels open. On most of my bikes it's not a problem, but on sportier models the male snap can contact the fuel tank and mark the paint. Velcro would have done the job just as well and would be easier on the bike. I'll probably have a triangle of elastic installed to cover the snaps when not in use, but at this price, I shouldn't have to do that.

Note that the zip-out Gore-Tex liner is the waterproofing component so the outer shell of these pants will still get saturated in the rain. Also, there is no removable insulated layer. That may seem like an oversight, but I appreciate a closer fitting garment that won't flap in the wind and these pants do the job well. I've never needed the insulated layer in previous riding pants, even in sub-freezing temperatures, and I do get cold fairly easily.

Fell apart after a year of light use
I could probably count on my fingers the number of times I've worn these pants in the last year. I've used them on colder days for street riding and some moderate ADV. The additional seam along the crotch zipper completely busted just from putting them on last time (NOT super tight) and of course I am now just outside of the warranty period. For a pant at this price level I expect more. Period.

Four season pants with good protection
These pants are very comfortable with solid knee protection and some armor on the hips. The pockets are small so not terribly useful. The vents are also small and don't allow for much airflow but the pants aren't that heavy so the heat hasn't been an issue. As always, Rev'it's measurements are accurate.
