Olympia Women's Airglide 5 Jacket

The Olympia Women's Airglide 5 Jacket is the latest generation of a multi-season touring juggernaut. The ballistic mesh and 500 denier Cordura shell provides industry leading abrasion resistance and a hurricane of airflow when the weather is warm. When the temp drops the Airglide 5's three layer system tailors your comfort to any season or weather condition. The two layer liner offers both a waterproof / breathable barrier against the elements and the Termolite insulated liner keeps you nice and toasty. Olympia has even gone as far as to make the rain layer so versatile that it can be worn over or under the jacket, as well as by itself. The thermal layer can be worn both in the jacket or inside the rain layer, for the ultimate destination liner.

Along with true 3 to 4 season riding comfort, the Olympia Airglide 5 boasts bountiful protection. Removable CE rated Motion Flex armor covers your shoulders, elbows and back. 3M Scotchlite piping wraps around back yoke, arms, shoulders and collar to boost visibility at night and low-viz weather conditions. For riders looking for multi-season comfort and protection, the Olympia Airglide 5 is truly one jacket to rule them all.

Features:

  • Outer shell constructed in 500D Cordura fabric with ballistic airflow mesh panels
  • Waterproof, Thermolite insulated two stage over or under rain jacket
  • Removable CE approved Motion Flex armor at elbows and shoulders
  • Removable CE approved Motion Flex articulated back protector

  • Custom Fit detailing at collar, cuffs, elbows and waist

Lovely!
A little bit of my background:
As a Washingtonian, I ride in most weather (pouring rain, 90 degree sunshine, and everything inbetween *ahem* with a temperature of at least 50 degrees I suppose). I initially got a man's small 4-season jacket . I found out VERY quickly that it was not made for curvy women, It rides up to the narrowest part of my waist leaving it rather drafty down my backside. During my search for a well-fitting coat (IN RED, red is hard to find), I've discovered most women's coats are watered-down, more "cute" than functional versions of men's coats and men's coats are often to big or bulky on me. *insert eye-rolling*
Sizing:
I'm 5'4" 35" (34A)-28"-40". 145lb Normally, size small shirt and size medium (6-8) pant. Somewhat short-torso-ed. I prefer being able to wear a hoodie under my jacket in colder weather so a little extra room is welcome. I ordered a size medium.
I am easily able to wear a sweatshirt under the jacket even with the liner. With the insulating liner in, I have plenty of room over my stomach and chest. I have to cinch in the velcro at the waist a little in order for it to be snug. The shoulders are the perfect width. The sleeves are the proper length, maybe barely on the short-ish side. The bottom of the coat hits me barely below my belt line. If I had my way, I would have made the coat 2-3 inches longer. The tail is rather short for my liking, but it doesn't ride up so I'm not too breezy.
I'm super thankful for the cinching at the waist. If you need a little extra room in the hips, it has side zippers that unzip to give a little leeway.
Protection:
My favorite thing about this coat! The padding is NOT watered down! There are hard plates that extend mid forearm to just above my elbow, over both shoulders, and a wide plate down the spine. The plating is relatively thin but seems sturdy. It moves readily with my body movement so you barely notice it while in motion. Plating is not bulky or limiting.
There is thin reflective piping over the top of the chest, 4-6" piping on the the upper arm and forearm, and across the top of the back. There's really not a lot of reflective material. Reflective piping is minimal. I feel they could have snuck in a little wider reflective tape throughout the coat. I ordered the coat in white and red though so it's still quite visible. If it were black, I'd be more upset.
Style:
The coat is quite flattering. I really like the look of it. It fits smoothly not leaving any bulky bunching while I'm on my bike. The inner liner has velcro loops, snaps along the top collar, and zips into the rain layer to keep it in place. It's rather thin. I don't imagine it will be great for colder temperatures (haven't tried it yet) but it's made with heat reflecting technology so they say (it's shiny like a thermal blanket). It has a cellphone pocket on the inside. We'll see how warm it is in the future.
The rain layer also has velcro loops and zips into the outer layer. It has an inner velcro-closure pocket big enough for most smart phones. Alternatively, you can wear it over the outer layer for a wind or rain breaker.
The outer layer has one left breast pocket on the inside of the main zipper. It's large enough for a cell phone, ipod, or keys. There are two other outer pockets located on the front of the hips (where normal coat pockets are). All pockets seal with zippers. The hip pockets are TINY. Like women's jeans tiny. They barely fit my whole hand without a glove. They could be bigger if they set a little closer to the side seams buuuuut they're not. I guess they cut that feature out in favor of streamlining the look.

Overall, I really like the coat. It fits smoothly and is well worth the money.

Pros:
- hard plating over impact locations
- WATERPROOF (this is important to me)
- made to fit female curves
- plenty of adjustment for where body shape may vary
- sturdy but not rough or rigid, very mobile
- stylish and flattering

Cons:
- not a lot of pockets (I only list this here because my man's coat has an inner and outer breast pocket I really like)
- small outer pockets
- coat is short, I REALLY wish it went further down my hips

This product should be at the top of chart. Very nice.
Having lost (bungie cord came loose while coat was on back of bike) I hoped to buy and obtain the same jacket. This newer version is a bit different in style (amount of color with black) and this jacket is shorter than my first one. I still would prefer the style of older jacket, but this one does have some really nice features, like the under-jacket (rain) that can also be worn over top of the regular jacket. It is all well padded and all in all a nice stylish jacket for the ladies........

Very comfortable riding gear
This is my first Olympia jacket. I really like the layers: jacket with mesh, rain jacket, then the warm liner. You can remove the rain jacket and zip the liner if you like. This jacket had a lot of thought put into the details. The rain jacket can be worn inside the jacket or outside, over the jacket. I gave it four stars because of these disappointments. I wish the jacket was an inch longer and the sleeve length a little longer. I wear a 12 and I had to order the XL. I tried the L but it was too snug. I like a little room underneath in case I need to add a layer. I am pretty sure this jacket will do the job this riding season!

Versatile, attractive and protective jacket
My first mesh jacket was destroyed in last summer's deer encounter. After trying on and researching several options, I was pleased to purchase the Olympia Airglide 5 back in April.

This jacket (size large) securely fits my womanly form (I'm a 5' 8", 155 lb. hourglass figure with broad shoulders) and is attractive without glitter and flourishes. The removable thermal liner is great for cool days and the rain layer keeps me dry. I love the versatility and the ease with which the layers can be added or removed. Air really moves through the mesh layer - 90+ degree, high humidity is tolerable. The armor is well placed and can be securely cinched into place no matter how many layers are (or are not) under it.

I'm a litle diappointed in the small pockets - only the chest pocket is large enough for a smart phone. The cell phone pocket is tiny and 2 small exterior hand pockets will not hold much of anything. I think the zippers are a little flimsy, too, but so far I've not had any problems with them. The sleeves are little short, which is a first in my experience, but the right gloves can resolve this problem easily.

I would buy this jacket again. It's attractive, protective, and has been comfortable on cool spring nights, rain, and muggy summer days.

Plenty of air
I took my new jacket for a spin this last weekend. It was 104 and I just wore the mesh jacket (without liners). I felt nice and cool. I just was wearing a t-shirt under the jacket. I got the High Viz and black. I was a little worried about the black warming me up but I was fine.

For help with sizing, I am 5'3" and a bust of 36D. The medium was too tight through the chest and I couldn't breath with the liners in. So, I returned it and got the large. With the liners in, it fits perfect. With just the mesh jacket it seemed a bit big on me. I am still super happy because I think this we serve me well as a all season jacket since I am in Southern California.

Thrilled with Jacket
I am a VERY NEW rider...in fact, I ordered this jacket, pants, gloves and a helmet before I had even been on a bike. I was a couple of weeks from my Basic Rider Course and new that I needed to get good gear. I made the leap of faith that not only would I pass the class to get my license, but that I wouldn't be terrified of bikes and run off screaming.
I am 5'3" and somehow up to 140 lbs. My requirements for jacket and pants were that I get something that would get me through spring/summer/fall as comfortably as possible, and that there be good safety features (armour, sliding protection, decent reflective material and visibility). I was willing to pay a bit more to ideally have something that would keep me fairly cool in hot weather, fairly warm in cold weather, and dry in wet weather.
As many people have stated in the past, Revzilla is amazing in terms of customer service (I called and peppered customer service with questions three times) and speedy deliver (I order the jacket, pants and gloves around noontime on Thursday, FedEx was in my driveway at 9:15am on Friday, and the email telling me the package had shipped came at about 9:30am...15 minutes later. Less than 24 hour shipping! - that that it shipped from Philadelphia and I live in upstate NY).
So - the jacket. I got the white w/ black and red trim, size M. I am broad through the shoulders which means sometimes when I stretch my arms out in front of me, sleeves can run short and the item can be uncomfortable tight across the back. This jacket feels comfortable. There are plenty of adjustments to cinch in the waste and strap down extra material on the arms. I have taken the liner out and move the rainproof liner to the outside. There are lots of pockets hidden here and there. For my cellphone (iPhone 5c in Otterbox case), the cellphone pocket is a bit snug, but I found another inner pocket that holds the phone, a small wallet, chapstick and tissues - the necessities of life! The outside hand pockets are small, but OK for a small wallet, chapstick, tissues...and I think I got the phone in one, too (but not with the other stuff).
I find the collar a bit uncomfortable in the front - sort of too bulk? Or like it pokes in toward my neck...not sure how to describe except to say between the front of the collar and the strap of the helmet there is a lot of stuff in front of my neck! But, having said that, I notice that it hasn't been a bother or distracting when I am riding.
I have ridden in a decent drizzle and in heavy wind...and during the BRC class, we were standing out in high winds and mid-40 temperatures and I was completely comfortable (this is with the rain liner worn on the outside).
I purchased Olympia pants to "match" so that I could zip the jacket and pants together at the small of the back, but I haven't actually done that yet. Although I would say the jacket is on the short side (in other words, it doesn't cover your butt, particularly when you are sitting), I haven't felt that it rode up to expose my back at all.
I think the fit/cut of the jacket is attractive as well as comfortable. I am looking forward to riding in "heat" to see just how well it breathes when it is hot but I have ridden in mid-high-40s with a few thermal layers underneath and been comfortable. No monsoons, but the wind/rain layer has kept my dry and warm in wind and drizzle.
I am thrilled that I seem to have hit the jackpot on my first try. I hate to be hot and I hate to be cold...I think this jacket (and the pants) were great choices. For reference, I bought the Olympia Expedition Women's pants in size 8.

Great Jacket at a great price
Quality riding gear prices have shot into the stratosphere in recent years with some high-end jackets running more than $1,000. Olympia provides excellent quality for less than half the price. The only negative I can find with this jacket is the lack of a 3DO armor option. Adding that option would make it perfect in my opinion.

Good quality and versatile jacket
The fit, quality and style of this jacket are great. I got it in ivory/pewter and love the look. It has tons of pockets and the layering is versatile. I gave 3 out of 5 for comfort because this is one solidly made jacket! Very heavy with all the layers and the shoulder pads in, I found it a bit too restricting of movement. Removing the shoulder pads helps a lot though; a trade off between protection and wearability I know.

Appears to be an incredible value for the price: Full mesh chassis for the summer, waterproof liner that can be worn outside or inside the jacket (which means the liner can also be worn off-bike!), plus thermal liner for the cooler rides. Also, the Ivory/Black/Red is really sharp looking, though it was a tough call between that and the hi-viz.

Picked this because had so much luck with the 4. The 4 was still in excellent shape, but the handiness of the waterproof liner being on the inside or the outside was a no thinker. Many times on the trip last Summer, we had to stop off on the side of the road and place the liners on on the outside. They are great. The size is true to form, and with all the adjustments it will fit as though it was made just for you. Just wish it was a little longer in the back---may be an 1". I am 5'10" and 160.

Picked this for a summer & rain jacket in Southern California for my wife. It's nice that the liners zips out and can be layered. Comes with elbow, shoulder, and back armor which costs extra in many jackets.

Needed a light-colored jacket with lots of mesh but decent rain and cold protection.

What size is the inside pocket and is there a pocket on the rain jacket?
A shopper on May 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The outside jacket pockets are normal sized pockets, compared to my other jackets. The dimensions for the outside pockets are 6" zipper, pocket is 4" x 6". The inside pocket is located on the left side, upper chest area. That pocket has a 6" vertical zipper and the pocket area measures 5" x 8". The rain jacket has two vertical zip close pockets with 5" zippers. The rain jacket pockets are 4" x 6" and each layer has a cell phone pocket . Hope this helps!
Does this jacket require a back insert protector separately like some of your other jackets Do?
A shopper on Apr 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It comes with the Back Protector in it. I ended up reading from previous posts on the Airglide 4 that some were replacing this with the Rukka D30, and they were more satisfied with it. I ordered these, and they were really comfortable. The air goes through them, just like the jacket. They are more substantial than the ones that came with the jackets, but the Olympia protectors don't have the holes in them for the "breeze" to go through. I ended up changing out all the protectors to the Rukka brand, except for the hips---they just didn't fit. LOVE the jackets, and love the protectors too. Hope this helps.
Can the thermal liner be worn alone, or does it need to be zipped into the rain liner or jacket? It would be nice to wear it on its own at rallies when chilly.

BEST ANSWER: It has to be zipped into either the jacket or the rain liner. It works pretty well as a destination jacket when zipped into the rain liner. Be aware that the rain liner will have a large high-viz yellow stripe down both arms if you get the high viz version.
The ability to wear the thermal and rain liner together as a destination jacket was one of the biggest reasons my wife and I bought these jackets. We ride two up and camp, so space is at a significant premium when we travel.
How long is this jacket? What is the length dimension?
A shopper on Jul 8, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I purchased a Large. On the back, from the bottom of the collar to the tail of the jacket measures 26 inches. Measured the same way in front 20 1/2 inches.
