Quietest windshield I've tried for the FJ
I just got back from a 3-day, 700 mile tour using this windshield. The pocket summary is "I like it very much."

If you've ridden an FJ with the stock windshield you know that it completely sucks. The air management is so bad that it's deafening at only 30mph, and even with earplugs the noise is enough to drown out everything around well before highway speeds. In my opinion a replacement -- any replacement -- is mandatory.

Before trying the V-Stream I tried an Ermax touring and Ermax sport-touring screen, both of which were huge improvements over stock, and plenty good for backroads bombing, but still quite noisy at higher speeds. I tried both with a Puig visor, which improved things a bit more, but not enough for my liking.

When the V-Stream became available I thought I would give it a shot. The shape was different, with obvious thought having gone into air spill around the edges. Unlike all of the other screens I tried it comes with its own bracket, rather than re-using the Yamaha bracket. Its bracket pushes the screen out more in front of the bike, which perhaps allows more air under the screen to reduce buffeting, and changes its angle.

Whatever the reasons the airflow is indeed substantially better than the others. The air behind the screen remains smooth until the mid-60mph range, and while it starts to get noisy above that it's not particularly loud even into the mid-80s. I rarely go faster than that, so this is fine.

The other screens I've used were all acrylic and substantially thinner than the V-Stream. The V-Stream is a thick sheet of polycarbonate. Despite the thickness the optics are outstanding. The screen is a little higher than I would prefer; even on the lowest position I have to look through it rather than over it in order to see the road right in front of the wheel. I thought that would drive me nuts, but the optics are so good that I soon forgot all about it.

Between the thickness of the polycarbonate and the beefier mounting plate the V-Stream is much more stable than the other screens, which tended to bounce around a lot, especially at speed.

One thing I wasn't so sure about was whether or not I wanted a screen that large in hot weather. One of the things I really liked about the Ermax sport-touring screen is that it is pretty small, allowing a lot of air through to cool me through my mesh suit. In fact, the still air directly behind the screen doesn't give a lot of cooling -- but this is made up for by the concentrated airflow around the sides, which throw a stream of air right across my arms and biceps. While I've only ridden in temperatures up to about 85F so far, if I'm moving there's enough air flow there to keep me quite comfortable. I'm not so sure I'll be happy with that in colder weather, although it wasn't a problem using a jacket liner during a 50F morning jaunt.

The only other consideration I had was whether or not the screen would interfere with the FJ's handguards. Most other windscreens, other than the Yamaha screen, interfere with the handguards at one or another position. The Ermax screens are fine in the middle and high positions, for instance, but interfere in the lowest.

Although it's verrrry close in the lowest position, the V-Stream remains clear of the handguards in every position.

So: It's easily the quietest of the screens I've tried, and was fine for hundreds of miles a day. Airflow is good enough even on a fairly hot day when in combination with mesh, but it blocks enough to be comfortable on a cool morning too. Optics are good enough that I forgot it was there, and I can use the screen in every position. I'm racking my brain, but the only thing I can think to complain about is that if there are strong crosswinds then it can be fairly loud, and that isn't as bad as the other screens either.

I have no experience with screens that offer more coverage, like the V-Stream touring or the Madstad, but for my money this is pretty near perfect for all-season backroads bombing and it's certainly a nice step up from the other screens I've used.

Recommended.

National cycle sport tour windshield
First, I didn't buy this on Revzilla, my dealer has a special deal with National cycle, so I bought it there. But I felt that others may need to know about this product. This is a great product, the shield itself and the mounting bracket. Very well made and quality hardware too. The difference in wind buffeting from stock is dramatic. No more buffeting on and in my helmet. A side benefit is that the mounting bracket moves the shield out a bit allowing more room to mount a GPS or phone. I detailed my install on FJ 09 forum. See pictures and links below. Yes, I am extremely happy with my new National cycle windshield.

Great windscreen
I commute using my FJ09 with a mix of city and highway riding, and this is a great windscreen! It moves the airflow around the body with minimal buffeting on the helmet and I can finally hear the engine!! Personally, I like to keep the windscreen in the lowest position. It will be interesting to see if the cockpit gets a little too warm during the summer though. Riding as low as 38 degrees moves the cold air nicely!

BTW, I'm 5'10" .

Great product!
To start I am 6'1" and ride with a Corbin seat that sits about 1" taller than the stock seat at its tallest position. My Helmet is a Scorpion that is about 4 years old.

The Installation took about 30 minutes and the instructions were easy to follow. All new parts matched perfectly to the stock parts ( always a plus with aftermarket parts ). Did not have to touch the hand guards at all.

Road testing the windscreen I noticed a change instantly. My shield was up to start through 55mph and I had no air jerking my head back like the stock windscreen. There was no buffeting and the wind noise was decreased so much that I could hear the bike for the first time over 40mph. The temperature while testing was 80 degrees with high humidity so I was concerned about no air on my body. I was getting plenty of air on my body to cool me as much as possible on a hot south Texas mid morning. While increasing my speed to 75mph ( shield down now ) I was noticing the improvement of air flow to my helmet as it now was at the very top of my helmet ( stock the air was hitting me right at the bottom of my helmet). Wind noise increased with speed but it was never as bad as the stock windscreen at even 40mph. It was a very welcome change to be able to hear something other than constant wind noise and being able to NOT wear ear plugs anymore.

Excellent product. Fit, function and performance all spot on. I recommend tis product to anyone with a stock FJ09.

Size Matters
You can see the obvious higher quality from the stock windscreen as soon as you open the package. I'm glad I bought the tinted middle-sized ('Sport-Touring'), but the other two would also be the "best size" depending on how you ride and how practical-minded you are. The 'Sport' (smallest, full-tinted) would probably look the best and match someone in sync with the "tall sportbike" aspect of the FJ-09. The tallest, clear 'Touring" screen would be best for someone who's more serious about long-distance traveling or who's a stickler for comfort, or who's taller than most riders. Looking at photos I thought that tallest one would look disproportional to the bike, but after mounting the middle sized one - which looks a little shorter in front of you than in pics - I now think the full touring screen would look good, just not as good as the other two.

I decided on the middle one because overall it seemed to me the most "FJ-09" of the range. The height is just right for me (I'm 5'11"). Somehow I get the wind nicely in my face (a motocross helmet with goggles) without the head buffeting I got with the stock screen. By 'nicely' I mean I'm always breathing lots of fresh air and my goggles de-fog in seconds from stop on humid mornings here in Florida. I also like how I see directly over the Vstream to less than 20 ft from the front tire.

As for noise (a big issue), with the stock screen the wind was much louder than the engine. With my mid-size Vstream the engine noise is equal to the wind noise, which is good enough for me because I mainly just want to hear where the RPMs are. And, if I start getting bothered by wind noise on longer rides, I just put my 'Hearos' ear plugs in (which is rarely). Having previously had an MRA spoiler screen mounted on top of my stock screen, I can only conclude the tallest screen would give you more engine noise than wind noise. And, having ridden with the stock screen alone both before and after having the MRA spoiler screen (which broke off when it caught on a tree vine), I can only conclude the smallest full-tinted Vstream would leave you back with much more wind noise than engine noise - so buy a pair of 'Hearos' if you buy that 'Sport' screen.

Didn't work for me
I am 71.5” with a 32” inseam, so I am a bit long waisted. As anyone with this bike knows, the stock FJ 09 screen was useless at deflecting wind and deafening a with regards to buffeting. So too was the California Scientific Tinted Shorty. The buffeting from these 2 screens seemed create noise from underneath the chin bar of my RF1200. The California Scientific Medium seem to do a decent job at wind deflection and noise reduction, but man that thing is ugly. Oddly enough, the most pleasant auditory experience on the FJ came when I cut the stock windscreen in half. It’s now no more than a fly-screen, but the air hitting my helmet was “clean air.” Probably not the best option for cooler riding seasons or hitting the interstate for 300 miles.
Enter the National Cycle VStream+® Sport/Tour¬¬ Windscreen. It’s not quite as tall as the CS Medium, but it is much taller than the Stock or CS Tinted Shorty. I didn’t think that the VStream being a couple inches shorter than the CS Medium would make that much of a difference. Boy howdy, was I wrong. The buffeting coming off the VStream is just as loud as the Stock and CS Tinted Shorty, but it’s coming from the top of my helmet being bombarded with dirty air instead of underneath the chin bar. What’s disturbing is how the buffeting blurs my vision. It shakes my helmet so violently that my eyeball feel like they are vibrating inside their sockets. If I hunch over and get a couple of inches lower the buffeting and noise seem to decrease. Same thing if lean forward and get low and behind the screen but both are weird and uncomfortable riding positions on the FJ. I just did about an 800-mile roundtrip, 90% on I-95, and I spent the whole time searching for the comfortable bubble. Never found it.
BTW. I was using the Stock seat/low position and the screen at highest and lowest positions. Guess I’ll try the stock seat high position and the “Yamaha Comfort Seat” (another $300 wasted) at the high position. I figure if I can’t get down in the bubble without slouching, maybe I can get up high enough to find the clean air. Or maybe I’ll try the VStream Sport ($160) for cleaner air. Or maybe the Puig Visor ($110) to make the bubble larger. Or maybe the VStream Tall Touring ($200). I’m starting to see a pattern here.
Honestly, this screen might be good for someone that is 5’9” or shorter. Maybe even 5’10”. But if you are 5’11” or taller, I would not get this windscreen.

Very happy with this product and service. I placed my order on Sunday and got my package on Tuesday. Quality product with good instructions. I am five nine, in the low setting I can see over the screen or crouch down behind it if I want, with almost no wind in my face. Riding at night with the factory screen my shield would be covered with bugs. Now they are on the windscreen not on my shield.

Wow! What an improvement!
The install is straightforward and takes about 15 minutes if you take your time. The instructions are clear and correct.

The shield and included hardware is first class. Very nice quality with no fitment issues.

The improvement in coverage, reduction in buffeting and noise is remarkable. Well worth the price and more.

looks great on the bike!
I am 5'9". the wind hits me right at the top 1" of my helmet so there is some buffeting at higher speeds. Still much better than stock.. Maybe with a puig deflector it would be perfect. going to try that as an option. you can ride with the face shield open up to 60mph without too much wind so its a big improvement. I would recommend this windshield. This review is for the FJ09.
