Michelin Power RS Tires

The Michelin Power RS is engineered to raise the bar clear across the board - performance without compromise. Michelin’s Adaptive Casing Technology uses a single ply carcass at an angle close to 90° to reduce rigidity and increase grip at the crown of the tire, yet folds that single ply over on itself on each sidewall to stiffen it, resulting in less sidewall flex and better tracking through corners. To further improve cornering stability, Michelin is using their 2CT+ dual compound technology for the rear tire. 2CT+ tires use harder rubber underneath the soft rubber at the tire's shoulders to promote stability, especially under hard acceleration during corner exit. a good tire for entry level riders looking for more grip
Mark duncan of DMC Performance gave me the opportunity to test out the new Michelin Power RS tires.

And I have to say I'm impressed with how much better they are the the previous Pilot power 3 tires.

So first off the tires give Good feedback, you really get a lot and it's easy to predict and feel what is Happening under you, and after all, isn't that what we are all looking for when we ride.

Once i got them hot and i got to know the tires and gained confidence in them I pushed harder and harder until I got them to the point were they just cant give any more and break free, but with that being said when they do break away it's no surprise as you feel long before they let go that it's going to happen and they do hook back up if you ease up and back off, it's that very familiar Michelin feel for me, that forgiving drift as you slide on through. At max lean the rear will brake away if you roll on the throttle hard but it will hold at max lean under exceptional throttle power and speed and when it does break away it's very forgiving and you just need to back off.

On Entry the front feels good. It's a tire that feels like it's planted solid and turns in nice and quickly with a good amount of grip. You can trailbreak in deep and really put a lot of load on the front and it doesn't get squirmy or feel like it wants to come off line. When it does scrub out and you push the front just a little it's very manageable and it doesn't feel like you're going to tuck the front but once again you just know you need to back off.

Overall they turn very well. not giving you a fall in sensation, but they're aggressive enough to quickly dive in set your line and hunt that apex. Mid corner you can put alot of pressure on them before you feel nervous about the loss of grip and feeling your getting and the lean angle they can sustain will have the boys hooting and hollering when you go by.

The tire has great flick-ability. It can change direction excellent not loosing any time in fast directional changes and keeping that grip and stability you need.

On exit you can get a lot of drive out once you start to stand the bike up. Slightly spinning up the rear is no problem as the tires continue to put the power down without making a fuss until you get the bike completely stood up straight and drive into that next turn.

So Overall they have really good feel and a exceptional amount of grip. Far beyond that of it predecessors and the competition of other sport tires in its class. It's almost comparable to a Q3 or Rosso Corsa but just with its own personality. It's a very user-friendly Tire, very easy to learn and to understand the feedback and overal a very forgiving Tire.

For what they are I think they're excellent tires and I really enjoyed riding on them. Lots of fun to be had on these, they're going to work great for your C to B group track day riders and possibly the slower-paced A group Riders as well. Street wise basically any Canyon Rider is going to get there Jolly's out on these and be pleasantly pleased with how sticky they are but can still last on the comute due to the 2ct dule compound technology they boast found in the tire. They also heat up really quick and have exceptional grip even long before they reach there operating temperature.

If you're a Michelin guy these are your tires, they're really fun and have a very unique felling. It's very different from its competitors and it's quite good as far as predictability and manageability goes. Overall they perform good on all the spectrum's of what you need to get out of a tire.

Amazing Tire
2012 Honda CBR 1000RR, Intermediate level rider, I have ridden 26k miles on my CBR 1000RR.

This is now my 9th or 10th set of tires I have mounted on my CBR 1000RR. The bike came standard with Dunlop Q2's and since then, I have mounted 6 or 7 sets of Q3's, a set of Dunlop Roadsmarts, and a worn Michelin Power Cup to see how that tire worked. I have owned other bikes with Q3's and a set of Pirelli Diablo 3's

The Power RS immediately feels better than the newest generation of the Q3. When the Q3 came out initially, the tire construction worked very well. Sometime around 2014 maybe 2015, Dunlop changed the construction to make the tire last longer. When they did that, this changed the grip level of the Q3 a bit, and I could never get the original feeling back. This tire feels, exactly how the Q3 used to feel.

Grip. The grip is confidence inspiring. At tip in, the tire remains planted, unlike the Q3 which has a tendency to move around before it settles in. This tire has a very smooth feel going around corners and really allows you to focus on your line. My engine is built, so I have a lot more power than stock or slightly modded CBR's, so corner exit grip will always be a concern. This tire, the corner exit slides are there, but it is very manageable.

Overall Feel. This tire is a lot smoother than the Q3. The Q3 is a harder compound, so you feel the road and imperfections a bit more. The Power RS is like a Cadillac and the Q3 more like a Hummer in that respect. Not saying the Q3 is a bad tire, it's just perhaps showing a bit of its age, and perhaps why Dunlop has just released the Q3 plus, which may be a much better tire.

Style. This tire is beautiful. The Michelin outlines, really brings out the look of the tires, and the overall detail of print, is just beautiful. The tread design is beautiful and different, so you know when it is the RS someone is using. The style looks very similar to the Evo tire, and that tire is very very good.

Tire life. Unsure, I only have maybe 5 or 600 miles on this set, so, I hope to get 3k miles out of a rear tire. Judging by the tread depth, this looks to be like an easy task. I typically can get 2-3k miles out of a rear Q3, and this tire for sure has much more tread depth and perhaps a little harder compound on the center of the tire, which for me, always wears the fastest as I mostly commute on highways and less of backroads and track days, However, I still do occasionally, get the edges to wear out as much as possible.

Overall, this tire is a great deal. I acquired a set for $430, including warranty, mounting (I brought my wheels in), and taxes. For this price, compared to the Q3's, it's a bit more expensive, but the smile this tire put on my face makes it all worth it.

Front tire is amazing
The combination of the more aggressive front profile and feedback are a step beyond the pirelli supercorsa's I removed. Grip is at least as good which says something in itself. This tire likes being on its side, and could be twitchy to some. Personally I think they're perfect. Can't speak to mileage yet since I haven't racked up enough miles on the to really give an accurate idea. I'll update when I do.

to all of us faithful revzilla fanatics that aren't fanboys of any particular tire... I shall tell you of my experiences

ive had rosso 2's conti sa 3's rosso 3's and q 3's

IN MY HONEST OPINION, the rosso 3's are my favorite tire hands down, and I only say that because ive been on the mprs for 200 miles and haven really pushed them yet, but normal scrubbing in and a little spirited riding to see if the booty shakes haves me feeling like this is going to be my go to tire. the feedback and suction to the pavement have me feeling like I can be a gp contender, but not by giving me a false reality lol. its only because the tires feel exactly how I need them to. they don't have you second guessing a road that you already have a million other things to pay attention to.

I want to say more, but im on my work computer and this little bit took thirty minutes of hiding the browser, but after I log more miles ill definitely bring more to the table

take the chance and try these, I don't expect long life with these... but I definitely feel like ill live long with them

Superb but possibly wasted on the road
I had these on my old Tuono for around 7000 miles, before I sold it. The front tyre still had about 30-40% of its tread, and I got 4000 out of the first rear before it was changed prior to a long trip abroad. It would have done another 1000. The tyre itself has a ridiculous level of grip for the street. Didn't matter what I did, it refused to let go (but be nice and let them warm up a bit first). When I rained, I was more wary of the (lack of) tread, and sure enough, I was fine during damp patches, but not quite so good when it actually rained. Had the back let go on more than one occasion going round sweeping corners in the damp. Having said that, gave it the beans in second in the prouing rain, and the bike decided to wheelie rather than spin up! So not sure what to make of them in the rain. Strangely, I'm more confident on the Pilot Power 2CTs I have on my current litrebike in those conditions. I haven't been on the track with the RS, but if it's dry I anticipate (and have been informed) that they fly. So a great tyre, and longer lasting than I thought, but take it easy during the rain. Or take the bus...

Ducati, you do your customers and yourself a disservice
My 2015 Diavel came shod from the factory with Pirelli Diablo Rosso IIs. While okay, the tire never inspired confidence when the weather was wet or cold, as it often is in the Seattle area. Honestly, they never felt great in hot weather either. The front always felt as if it was going to come out from under me. It also took a significant amount of pressure to set and keep a line.

When I first bought the bike, Pirelli was the only tire available because of the unusual rear tire size. I was pleasantly surprised when researching replacements for my worn front tire that Michelin had begun to make tires in the Diavel's size. Based on my positive experience moving my 2013 Street Triple from Pirellis to Michelin Pilot Road 3s, I decided to go Michelin again. I'm thrilled I made that decision.

Even without being broken in (less than 100 miles), the Power RS front tire is more stable in straights, more stable under breaking, turns in with little effort, adjusts in corners with the slightest input, and tracks better than the Pirellis did on their best day. I look forward to seeing how the tires behave after break in. And, I can't wait until the rear is ready to be replace.

From what I can tell so far, Ducati does their customers and itself a disservice by equipping the Diavel with Diablo Rosso IIs. The bike is smoother, inspires confidence, and is a pure joy with it's new front tire.

This is an initial review, which I hope to update after I've put some miles on the front Power RS and after replacing the rear Pirelli.

Great road tire
This tire inspires confidence when doing twisties and cornering. It even did good on a wet highway. If you hit gravel let off the throttle a bit, lean that weight on the front ,and it will gain back grip. No tire can overcome slime run off, I just let off the throttle if I come across a slime run off. They warm up pretty quick too. If you need a tire that will get you to work , back roads, and the track , consider this tire.

Wow...jaw drops...holy crap!
These tires are AMAZING!!! When you first touch them you are shocked how soft and sticky they are just to your hand's touch. I had to rub my hands on them a few times and when you run your fingers down them they grab as your fingers so I thought, wow these are really going to grip the road like nothing else if it does that on the street.

I had them mounted, they mounted them in about 15 minutes and noted how soft and easy they were to work with; another plus.

I put a few hundred miles on them now so they are finally broken in. So I'm sure you've done your research by now and you've seen where people say they break in super fast; that's kind-of true but the harder strip on the middle part of the tire takes longer and you can feel it set in when it's ready.

Once broken in the tire heats up super, super fast. It probably takes about 5 miles or so before the tire is mostly heated up and after about 10 miles at most you can feel the grip change.

The bike just falls into the corners now; probably the tire profile change from the last tire to these but that's how these ride. These feel like every single track tire I've ever ridden where you get that super soft feedback from the tire and the road.

One thing I didn't expect is that these tires added another layer of bump absorption in my suspension meaning my ride got just a hair softer. If you have super hard factory tires you'll probably experience this too.

Simply put I'm a huge fan of these tires now, they are without a doubt worth every penny and inspire absolute confidence.

Coming from Pilot Road 3 then Pilot Road 5's then these. These tires just wanna lean into a corner and stay there. Tires are very confident in deep corners and want me to lean more without even trying or worrying about them slipping. It's very easy to get low and scrape pegs now. Warming up doesn't take long either which is nice.

BEST COST-TO-PERFORMANCE RATIO EVER!!!
I'm shocked how cheap Michelin is selling these tires for!!! They have the same performance as tires that cost twice as much!!!

I upgraded to these from Pirelli Rosso Corsa's and I feel like I'm on rails. I haven't had them long enough to speak to tread life but they are the best rated on the market and Michelin is known for making a tire that lasts.

Personally I don't know why anyone would buy any other tire for the street.
