Metzeler Roadtec 01 Tires

The Metzeler Road Tec 01 Tires represent the latest evolution in touring tires - enhanced grip on wet surfaces, increased mileage, and a high degree of compatibility with different motorcycles.

Features:

  • Increased grip on wet roads, with a focus on low friction surfaces (such as city streets and worn tarmac, low temperature), thanks to radial position of grooves
  • Rebalanced tire stiffness to allow a better adherence of the rubber with the tarmac micro-asperities, increasing mechanical grip even on lower friction surfaces
  • Belt and carcass tension parameters upgraded to increase stability on rear tires during strong braking
  • Increased mileage vs. Roadtec Z8 Interact (up to 10%), thanks to a different footprint shape (larger and shorter) which also enhances motorcycle handling
  • Higher wear resistance, obtained through a revised land/sea ration on the rear tire in conjunction with the new tread design, ensures product performance consistency allowing users to enjoy the tire for its entire service life
  • Metzeler multi-compound rear on selected sizes, with increased harmonization between the different compounds
    • HWM (Heavy Weight Motorcycles) special version brings the ROADTEC 01 performances to a wider selection of motorcycles
    • Increased stability by reducing both intensity and duration of oscillations due to road irregularities or steering maneuvers
    • Distinguishable by a “Weight” icon next to the product name on the tire sidewall
    • Increased stability is reached by employing stiffer carcass material and sidewall construction plus a slightly different compound recipe
  • Blackwall
  • Tubeless (TL)
  • W rated for speeds of 168+ MPH

Really diggin' these tires
Was unhappy with the treadlife I was getting on another sport touring tire, figured I'd give these a try. I only have 500 miles on them of freeway, commuting, rain and some twisties. They leave nothing to be desired - they are predictable, not at all twitchy and very stable both upright and at a lean. They require less input to keep leaned over, mid-corner corrections are a breeze. Rain grip was fine, though I didn't push them too hard in the wet. Metzeler really hit a home run with these.

Great All-Around Tire
I purchased a set of these tires for my FZ-09 and have enjoyed them so far. I have put 2,000 miles on them so far and can barley see any signs of tread wear/flattening of the tire. During the week I commute on the highway and on the weekends I ride aggressively in the mountains. These tires have been great for both purposes. Since it rains all the time in the summer where I live, I have really noticed how well these perform in wet conditions.

Best tire for BMW RT
Well, it took 3 tries, My 15 r1200rt came with PR's. They were Ok but wandered going straight & never planted in corners. 2nd went with continentals, better than the PR's but occasionally lose grip in corners, not great on miles. The Metzeler's are 1st tire to make the RT handle like a sport bike in corners. Planted, easy to make adjustments, such an improvement. Don't know about miles yet. Nothing else going on this bike in the future!

Great do it all tire
Bought this in April 2018 to replace the stock Bridgestone S21 on my FZ10. Got only about 3000 miles before I needed a new set.

I rode these all the way from MA to GA and back. I was on Skyline Drive and blue ridge parkway the entire length. I rode moonshiner 28 and tail of the dragon. I used them on dirt roads, highways and in the rain. They gave enough confidence in corners to let me push the bike over. On the dragon they were awesome. Tight turns, leaned in quick, and had enough grip to let me hammer the throttle out of a corner. Felt great in the rain and I was able to go fast enough on dirt roads.

There is some road noise once the tread is worn down but I would definitely buy again. I’ve gotten about 3500 miles on them and they are about halfway done.

Loud!
I like everything about this tire except the rather loud whining road noise emitted by the front, in spite of the fact that the tread isn't very pronounced. It may be unique to the setup of my bike, the height and angle of the windscreen etc. but it is distracting. The first time I experienced it, riding away from the shop after installing it, I literally slowed down and checked the mirrors thinking that there might be a fire truck in the distance somewhere... I'm getting used to it I suppose, or maybe it just caused me some hearing loss...I'll stick with it, as most of my daily riding is in the rain and the grip is great.

Super compliant
Although this tire has a pointy 'V' profile, running it with 33 psi on my 500 pound 1981 cx500 it felt very soft and compliant to road irregularities--which is great. I think I can run it at 36 psi or even higher because the somewhat downside is that it is a bit sluggish to initiate turns--but I think higher pressures will solve that. I love that this was fresh rubber, made March 2017, and feels grippy to the touch. I haven't pushed the bike that hard but it feels like it has way more grip than I can ever use (but love the safety factor). Got delivered in like 2 days, incredible!

My favorite tire so far
I live in Florida and tires are paramount in this environment. Lots of strait roads with high heat and rough pavement destroys and flats spots tires quick, not to mention the daily downpours, where wet traction is very important. I also make several trips throughout the year to the mountains where traction is key. This tire does it all for me. My current set has a little over 6k miles and survived flatland U.S.A. with out flat spotting and 2 trips to the Tail of the Dragon. I have not tried the PR5, but this tire is much better than the PR4's, which I've run several sets. This is on a BMW S1000XR.

Just replaced Pro Pilot 4's with Metzler
I have a KTM Superduke and tour 6 hours over the Rocky mountains a couple of times a summer as well as ride 12 miles of dirt gravely road. I just replaced the rear pro pilot 4 with the Metzler. Its a very stable tire and takes a tad more energy to lean but remains fairly linear in a turn. It goes over the dirt road very well (for a street tire). I have dropped pretty low in the turns and it holds them well. So far, I like it better for ride than the Pilot 4, but can't tell you anything of tread life. It was cheaper than the Pilot 4 so if you're considering both, I would suggest at some point you give the Metzler a try.

Great tires on a BMW RT
Write your review here. It must be at least 25 characters long. Consider whether you would recommend this product and what you like or dislI can't really give anything about tread life as I have not worn them out yet. My last set were Metzler Z6 and I put 14K on them before I felt the need to replace them. It's my understanding that these might not last quite as long, but I have high expectations.

I put about 500 miles on a front and rear set then picked up a hunk of metal in the back. I plugged it and rode another couple hundred but I'm getting ready for a long ride and figured I'd go with Metzler's recommendation and replace it. When the old one was pulled off the plug seemed to be holding up just fine. Seemed a shame to toss it, but tires matter!

So far I really like theses tires. I have ridden in rain as much as dry and the grip is great. I have become pretty stuck on Metzler tires and if these last anywhere close the Z6, I'll buy another set without pause.ike about it.

Excellent commuter tire, OK for the occasional rain, but also the mileage in the middle is incredible, and the sides have excellent grip. I like tires that improve confidence, and these definitely achieve that.
