Love these tires
Unfortunately, I picked up a nail and had to replace my rear tired after 3800 miles....they looked pretty much brand new. The grip is much better than OEM Dunlops from what I've experienced. They offer a very smooth and quiet ride. Wet traction in my experience with this tire is excellent. First time I road in the wet, I noticed almost a dry patch behind me from the tread clearing water. On my OEM tires, I was always hesitant to lean in the wet and cornered very cautiously as they had lost traction on me when I did lean into my turns on wet pavement. The Metzlers, I started leaning a bit at first and they stuck like glue. The tires instilled enough confidence in their performance that I lean similar if not the same as I do in the dry. Tread life is hard to gauge so far as I was tracking tread life before picking up the nail. I did get 21K from my OEM Dunnies and that will be tough to match but the ride and traction the 888 offer more than makes up in any potential lost mileage. These ARE advertised to have a new longer lasting compound. The first near 4K, they show very little wear.

Best F**KING TIRE
I was riding all night with my old lady on the back. Were bar hopping. At 2am jumped on the freeway , something didnt feel right. But we kept going. I kept wondering why the handling felt wrong. I dropped my old lady off at her sisters and had a hour left to ride home. Stopped at gas station. The tire had zero air in it. But it held us both up and got her home with NO air. Couldnt even tell it was flat by looking at it. The walls are so thick its a run flat tire. We must have hit a nail in Hollywood and the tire held up. Didnt kill us at over 70MPH on the freeway. Amazing tire. Trust your life on it and always check your air pressure!

ME888: Going the Distance
I recently installed my second ME888 Marathon Ultra on my 2013 Triumph Speedmaster. The ME880 Marathon tires were stock on my bike from Triumph, so I elected to move up to the 888 when it was time to replace my rear tire last year (the Stock 880’s lasted over 18k on the rear, 26k on the front). After 19,000 miles of (mostly) Ohio roads, my first ME888 (rear) was ready for a change. The mileage alone speaks for itself; if you live somewhere that the roads aren’t so flat, I imagine you could get over 20k out of a rear tire. Mind you, my Triumph is only 550 lbs., I imagine that plays a role.

I’ve read several reviews where guys have complained about the handling in wet conditions; from my experience I think that has a lot to do with comfort, taste, and throttle discipline. I have experienced the rear tire breaking loose in the rain; more often than not because I got on the throttle too soon when exiting a curve. The 888 that I just replaced took me through “The Tail of the Dragon” (US-129) no less than three times in the rain with no issues. If guys are looking to ride in the rain the exact same way they ride when it’s dry, then yes, these tires could probably use a bit more grip. In my opinion, any traction issues I’ve experienced in the rain have been 100% my fault, not the a result of poor performance from the tire. Riding year round (yes, including January), I’ve experience no issues with grip in dry conditions, whatsoever.

I’m currently on my first ME888 on the front (11,500 miles… still ticking), and my second on the Rear, I would undoubtedly buy these tires again.

Fresh Rubber for Sport Touring
These ME888's replaced a pair of ME880's that have been on my 2001 Honda Goldwing, GL1800A, for 14,500 miles. I got about the life expectancy out of the ME880's that I expected given how hard I ride the bike. Unlike most Goldwing riders, I use my GL1800 primarily for two up sport touring riding as opposed to straight up and down long distance interstate runs. The Metzlers simply far outclass the OEM Dunlops that came with the bike in terms of dry grip, wet weather traction, handling, and wear.

The ME888 is the upgraded, new and improved, version of the ME880. In the 2,000 or so miles I have put on them so far, they have not disappointed. They feel every bit as sure footed as the Metzler M5's I have on my Kawasaki ZX14. Wet weather traction appears to be improved, but I only have about 3 hours of wet weather riding on these so far. The handling is outstanding. The bike seems much more nimble with the ME888's over the ME880's they replaced. Bear in mind, however, that I'm essentially comparing worn out ME880's to brand new ME888's. But if memory serves, even when the ME880's were brand new, they didn't respond as well as the ME888's do now. Very little effort is now required to put the bike into aggressive lean angles for turns, even with my wife riding shotgun.

One final note--I only use nitrogen in my motorcycle tires in order to maintain more consistent tire pressures with changes in ambient and tire temperatures. Your mileage may vary, of course, but based on my experience filing the tires with nitrogen substantially improves the handling consistency of the bike in all conditions.

great tires, confidence inspiring
I ride a 2005 Road King. I have used Dunlops, Michelin Comando II's, and the ME 888's. Michelins lasted but had 0 wet traction. Dunlops did not last. The 888 rear I have now has 19k miles on it. Traction, once the tires are warmed up, is almost as good in the wet as on dry pavement and they warm up quickly.

Road Star with Great Tires..!!
Uber-research of all the sub-atomic details about tires led me to a pair of ME-888's. Magnitude of difference from OEM BS tires, both noun and adjective. At 1K miles now both solo and 2-up on the Metzelers. Smooth and stable at all speeds, kung-fu grip, no signs of wear yet (except for the mold parting compound...natch). Tar snakes and lane paint cringe at my passing. Revzilla will get you in-hand with any product you choose in a professional and complete way - start with a pair of Metzelers...go from there.

Does exactly what they claim!
I ride in all kinds of weather, and it is comforting to feel the grip on the road while riding in the rain to include while in a lean. This is my second set and I get 12-14K out of a set, although I do admit that I may drive beyond what some may consider balding. I haven't tried may different tires, but for me I found a set that does exactly what I need, why would I risk trying another.

Great Tire and even better service
I replaced my Metzler ME880 front tire with the ME888 and I cannot believe what a difference it makes. Handling is MUCH better and smoother. Ridges and tar snakes on the road are no longer a problem or concern.

I ordered this tire at about 1140 on a Monday night and it arrived at my door Wednesday around noon...and I didn't pay for shipping. Awesome service!

So Far, So Good, actually..
Put a set of these on my 2012 Goldwing. 1st impression is they handle and ride excellent. A touch of a snow tire feel between 30 and 40, but that is because of the tread pattern and I am much more secure knowing I have that extra water channeling capability underneath me if needed. These handle way better than the Stones did. Stones lasted 12,500 but made me afraid to ride on the wet pavement

Instant better handling with this tire. Havent had it long enough to notice tread wear. I also avoid riding in the rain so I cannot rate wet traction.

I read about this tire a while back and it's supposed to have a sticky yet durable compound that would fit my riding needs

Have used Metzeler tires in the past and was very pleased with them. Buying from Revzilla because I'm saving a substantial amount of money versus what my local m/c dealership wants for the same tires.

Looked at 4 different tire manufacturer makes and models and read all of the reviews...looking for a tire that gets good mileage and handles well and this seemed to fit the bill..I've never run on this brand so time will tell

The RevZilla video review. Lemmy did a great job explaining the differences in the tires and this one fit what I was looking for in a tire.

My wheels are wire spoked so I need tubed tires, will it matter if I use tubeless tires or am I limited to tubeless?
A shopper on Jul 31, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I also have spoked wheels on my bike. These tires are technically tubeless, but it does not prohibit you from using a tube inside them. Mine are using a tube and I ride my Harley like a knee dragger. Great performance out of them so far and I'm probably 700-800 miles into them.
I have a 2007 Yamaha Tour deluxe. I had bridgestones on the bike and I bought a Metzeler 880 on the rear and loved it!!! I am curious about the Metzeler 888 and if I can run an 880 on the back and a 888 on the front???

I'd appreciate any help!!!

thank you!!!

BEST ANSWER: I think they are a great handling tire so far. After 1000 miles I still do not notice any wear. I have a 2013 Harley electric glide ultra limited. This is a heavy bike and having a tire that is dependable is important to me. I ride 15000 miles a year and long life out of a tire is the next priority ofthe tire I choose. The 888's have so far met every chalange I have thought of. I hope this helps you make a dedecision.

BEST ANSWER: Honestly,I do not know. Should be more than the 880 tire.I do have the 888 on my 900 lb. HD Ultra Classic with no adverse effects. Hope this helps.
Are they radial ?
A shopper on Apr 24, 2016

I have a Vulcan voyager 2010 with the factory michelin. Is it ok to run the 888 on the back and the Michelin on the front? The front tire has a few more miles to go.
A shopper on Jun 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: While it's not recommended by most manufacturers to mix tires there are some riders that do. The main thing to remember is to not mix bias and radial tires.
Hi...I currently have a 140/80H-17 tire on the front of my 2001 Honda Aero 1100...the ME 888 listing shows a 130/80B-17 as available...I understand the width is 10mm less than original....I'm thinking it will fit but just be about a 1/4 inch less in width.....just need confirmation that it will fit w/o problem and perhaps be a better steering tire than the wider original..?
thanks...Roy

BEST ANSWER: Yes I have the ME888 tires on my Kawasaki and they are great. My opinion is this the tire is all it says it is however there is no competing with rubber on the road. I would always buy the better tire ME 888 but more rubber is better ie: surface to grab the road. I would prefer Metzeler make the proper width for the application with the better tire.
Is the Metzler me 880 ultra front tire an white wall or black wall?
