A thermal liner that's actually useful?
This jacket is incredibly substantial and stylish. I've owned plenty of $300ish textile jackets, but have never been this impressed with the value. It's really put together well. I've never owned a jacket with a thermal liner like this. It's actually useful. I guess I should have been paying attention to the gram rating? I personally love riding in clear chilly weather, and I can't imagine a better jacket to do so in. I'm a four season commuter in Seattle, so nothing too extreme temperature wise, and this jacket will definitely be usable 9 or 10 months out of the year. I got the black to go with a recently purchased pair of Alpinestars Oscar Twin boots and am able to wear the jacket along with the boots into a formal office setting, no problem.

I'm 5'9", 42" chest, 34" waist, 185lbs, and the medium is perfectly snug with the liner in. The arm length is spot on, as well. The neck may be a bit loose on thinner guys, though I guess I do have it on the largest setting. I can barely button the collar on size 17 dress shirts and the medium leaves me with a surprisingly comfortable amount of room. This is definitely a plus since I wear collared shirts to work and will oftentimes be layered up on winter mornings. This is definitely a great jacket for muscular or thicker guys. I'm never bothering with sport-bike oriented textiles again.

For the Classy Man
I am 25 years old and wanted a Bonneville to be my first, hence the desire for this jacket. Got the jacket, didn't get the motorcycle. Got a 2016 Ninja 300 KRT ABS instead. Look that up if you aren't familiar with how that looks!

This jacket DOES work even with a bike like that. You think it would clash HORRIBLY, but it really doesn't. I get compliments all the time on this jacket. It does work even with a young skinny guy on a very green sport bike.

The protection is exactly what I wanted. The waxed cotton outer feels thick and strong enough to withstand a good slide. The included CE-I elbow and shoulder armor sits comfortably and properly. There is a pocket for back armor, but it would definitely require a cut-to-fit type of armor. Its a very specific pocket shape. I've not gotten one yet, as I am satisfied with the included soft back pad. There is the zipper thing on the bottom of the back for attaching to ....pants? Not familiar with its use.

The zippers and buttons seem durable, and the pockets have come in handy more often than not. There are plenty of adjustments to make the jacket fit properly. Hip adjustments, neck strap, arm adjustments, and a cord that runs along the middle you tighten to give it the tight around the middle look. I got the brown/olive version, and its much darker appearing than the picture makes it seem. It is a dark enough color that black gloves, black helmet, and dark jeans look perfect with it.

The jacket is waterproof. I was in a downpour riding at 60MPH at night with the thermal inner removed. The jacket outer was thoroughly soaked, but the inside was perfectly dry and kept me warm. The outer was dry the next morning after just being hung up. I haven't hit below 40F yet, but I also haven't even put the thermal in. I'm confident this will be plenty warm enough when the time comes.

There are two intake vents, and two exhaust vents for airflow around the chest. They are not enough to warrant the jacket "COMFORTABLE" in 80F weather. Now, I am quite gritty and have no problem with a little bit of sweating. It CAN work, but this is not the best for summer weather by any means.

Highly recommend this jacket! Price, style, protection. All the way.

Revvers, get the Merlin waxed cotton pants that go with this!!!

Great bit of kit!
The real thing - if you like the look you will love the jacket. High quality throughout. Fits a bit small - especially for the middle aged man.

I love this jacket very much
Cold and/or wet weather riding. Super well made. They could have easily charged another $100+. In fact, Barbour uses the same Halley Stevenson’s waxed canvas material for much of their line of day-to-day coats and charge a much higher premium. It’s a heavy jacket which is a con in some regard but you feel rock solid and impenetrable from the elements in it.

Good protection, stylish, and addordable
I received this jacket as a Christmas gift. I used it as a daily (non-riding) coat through January and February (Philadelphia area). It is a WARM coat, with and without the liner. The armor is good and does not interfere with casual wear and it’s easily removed.
For riding, I have been comfortable with the lining down to 40F. We had a brief warm spell and without the liner, I was comfortable with the vents open to the upper 70’s. I don’t think you’d want to go much beyond that without getting hot.
I have not yet tested it in heavy rain, but it has shed light rain with no problems.
As far as sizing, I’m 5’9”, 200 LBS and I wear an XL. It’s cut well for us older guys.
Lots of pockets and adjustments. The diamond stitching is a classy touch. Honestly, this coat holds its own with jackets twice the price (and higher). I think it’s an incredible value.

Why pay for a Belstaff?
I own a R nine T pure, and I wanted get some gear that goes along my modern retro bike. At first, I thought that Belstaff was the answer, but i didn't want to pay the premium price. And boy did I make the right decision, I am perfectly satisfied with the Merlin Yoxall. The quality is superb, and the styling is on point. I've had this jacket for only two days now, and I've been getting numerous complements.

Made for me
I've been searching for a protective jacket that didn't make me look like I was heading to the track, a 70s leather bar, or a Saharan safari. This is totally my style... kinda retro, sorta military, brownish, and fitted. To be fair, there were a few contenders, but either the price was insane or the fit was terrible. I'm 5'6" and 150lbs and the small fits me like I had it custom tailored for me. The seasonal change here in Austin have allowed me to wear this in 38° to 75°. I don't feel the cold at all in this. Above 70°, the jacket is on the warm side and the venting isn't as thorough with the liner still in. I'm sure I'll be comfy straight into the late spring. It's only dead summer heat that might be too hot for this. I have owned other waxed cotton products, but this one is probably the quickest break in I've had. But that might just be because I've worn it every day since it arrived.

the fit
i m 5.7, 145 lbs. 39inch chest size.
i bought small, and it fits great. i still have room for layering like flannel shirts, sweaters or body warmers. a bit tight, but not much. still comfortable for riding. i could have bought size m, but i m sure that would ruin the style.

the performance
today it was 46F and raining, and i can say it is definitely waterproof.
snapped pockets are very useful.
protection is very good, comes with elbow, shoulder and back. no need to buy anything separate.

the look
yesterday my wife asked me if i m cheating her. lol. well i m not, but i guess u can understand this is a cool looking jacket.

Good with room for improvement
I'm 6'2", 180lbs and ordered a large. It fits well enough, but could be a couple inches longer in the torso and an inch or so in the sleeves.

I wore it this morning, with the thermal liner, on a naked bike in 39 degree (dry) weather, and it performed well.

There are three improvements I'd make to future versions:

1. I find all 3/4 length jackets, this one included, should have double slider (CX) zippers on the main zip to allow splaying the bottom of the coat while sitting.

2. the sleeve closures would be better if you could set-and-forget the snaps and use the zip for easy ingress/egress - but the zipper is under the snap closure, making that impossible.

3. the side-entry hand warm pockets have rather narrow entryways - four fingers fit easily, getting the entire hand in takes a bit of effort.

I haven't yet worn the coat in the rain, so I can't comment on it's wet weather performance.

Review of fit
Hey just wanted to put a fit review in for those ordering as I have not tested this in the field yet, all reviews said to downsize a size, however this is going to be my fall/ winter jacket. I am 5' 11'' and 175 and usually fall between a medium to a large. Ordered a medium on this one and hardly any room at all for any base layers underneath but fits perfect other than that so hope its warm, cool looking jacket for sure
