Klim TK1200 Tech Helmet

Boasting a full carbon fiber shell in a modular design, the Klim TK1200 Helmet is a technical knockout. The heat-polymerised molded carbon shell affords ample creature comforts while barely tipping the scales. Normally, modular helmets are heavier and louder than comparable full-face helmets. In the pioneering spirit characteristic of the name, Klim has elevated the standard for premium touring comfort and convenience in a lightweight package that will allow you to enjoy a longer, more pleasurable ride. The intelligent ventilation scheme achieves abundant airflow and diminishes heat without compromising the Aero Acoustically engineered environment, realizing heightened rider focus. Equipped with a Transitions face shield and Pinlock lens, the Klim TK1200 Modular Helmet is prepared for all weather conditions, any time of day or night.  Whether you are up against sunglare, wind, fog or fatigue, the Klim TK 1200 Helmet has been purposefully designed to eliminate any obstacles that may attempt to hinder your adventure.

Note: TK1200 has a narrow neck roll opening and snug cheek pads to occlude noise. Neck roll will break in by about 5%, cheek pads by approximately 15-20%.

  • Transitions face shield with included Pinlock lens insert
  • Heat-polymerised pre-impregnated carbon fiber weave
  • Intelligent ventilation
  • Aero Acoustic tuned interior

Wanted to like it...
I sold my last full-face helmet in 1984... and never had a modular helmet. I currently wear a Bell Pit Boss (fantastic fit and comfort) but am looking for a new helmet to be better prepared for rain and occasional bad weather on our week-long road trips.

This helmet's super lightweight Carbon Fiber and the transition face shield are both a major plus. But this helmet is difficult to change to when considering its huge “Astronaut” size. Although it is light and has great safety features, it's just uncomfortable for me.

The helmet is somewhat difficult to put on but near impossible to take off... as it seriously takes your ears will it. I got an XL which is one size larger than my measured size of 58.6 cm so it did at least fit comfortably once donned.

The plastic chin piece basically came lose every time I practiced taking off the helmet. The button mechanism to open the modular part was clunky and difficult to operate with one gloved hand.

I don't think this helmet will work for me despite its features and excellent price and service from Revzilla. I never took it out for a ride on the Ultra but I couldn't see experimenting with this helmet for 3000 miles. It's a nice helmet if it fits you correctly... I however might take a shot with a full face as I'm sure they have improved in 35 years...

YMMV

Much lighter than expected
I retired my Schuberth C3 after 6 years of continual use. On a couple of ironbutt rides my neck got sore from the helmet's heaviness. I also was wanting a full carbon fiber helmet for strength. The transition face shield was a feature that should be more common. I weighed the Large size Klim helmet and it was 6.5 ozs. lighter in that size. Amazing! It fit snug on my head as most new helmets do, but there was no pressure point on my forehead as the Schuberth had. I went on a short 100 mi ride for a couple of hours at the end of the day and was amazed how well the helmet fit. It was much quieter than expected to the point that I rode it without ear plugs to evaluate it and found the noise levels tolerable. The ventilation was much better than the Schuberth, I could feel the cool air on the top of my head through a polyester skull liner. I also could feel the chin ventilation too and never could on the Schuberth. The face shield was super clear and not distorted. It seemed to make the scenery Pop with clarity like wearing yellow glasses although the shield is clear. The tinting is so gradual that I wondered if it was working riding into the sun. It was! I flipped up the shield and couldn't believe how bright the sun was riding into it, so I flipped it back down. On the Schuberth I would have had to use the internal sun shield and would have lost the clarity of the scenery with both in use. The inside liner feels luxurious like the Schuberth, yet it comes with several additions to add if wanted. Liner plugs for the ear wells, a summer shield and winter shield for the chin bar for air flow control, and a cover for the forehead vent holes, and a foam plug to go in the back of the neck roll where a comm unit would go. All additions have tabs that go with the pieces of the liner so they stay in place. The micro-lock chin strap is the same as the Schuberth and a better idea than D rings. Revzilla delivered the helmet in 3 days as promised- great customer service. I Highly recommend the Klim TK1200!

Great Modular
This is a great helmet once above the $500.00. The carbon fiber at first seems very thin maybe flimsy, but not. Its Carbon fiber and is thin and very strong. Quality is very good. The ease of opening the chin guard is excellent > one finger push up. Closes secure with ease. Field of view very good and wide. More room from the nose down. Fit for me is perfect no pressure points and my head "DOES NOT FEEL" as if in a bucket filled with spray foam isolation. Supper light weight.
The transitions lens is perfect for me in every way, shading, glare, ease of use. The added menacing look when black is a bonus. Visor opening at position 1 is no problem, position 2 at speed may close. Shoei visor is tighter on all potions reference rf 1200. Air flow is much better then most. The helmet flows good air. Noise is difficult because I run VERY LOUD pipes. So basically any helmet will catch some of that noise. Not as quiet as Shoie Neo Tech, but not bad. Over 70mph to 100 is not bad, you hear wind. Aerodynamic cuts wind good, no problems at speed or with side to side turns. Quick release is key. This Helmet feels like I am not wearing a helmet. REALLY. BUY IT
Close to perfect all the way around.

Thanks to Revzilla for unparalleled service.

Con > for those riding in tuck position Helmet may whistle some times. If I tuck my head (bending my neck down) you will catch a lot of airflow and a little whistle. I ride standard position and I have to seriously bend my neck to get a whistle.

Recoomended light weight!
I have used the white version of this helmet for about a month and I am extremely happy with it. My main purpose in buying this helmet was its light weight if an effort to try to reduce my neck pain while riding. With a uClear intercom installed, it is 3/4 lbs lighter than my Nolan N90 with intercom. This has made a significant difference and I am now able to ride much longer without any neck strain. It is 1 lb lighter than my previous Nolan N104 with intercom. Therefore if weight of a helmet is an issue, I highly recommend this helmet.

In so far as other items, the positives are that vision is better than my other helmets and I love the Transitions visor. It is much more convenient than flipping down the sun visor. It works well going from deep tree shadows to bright open roads. Airflow with this helmet is great. With heat indexes of a 100 degrees my head does not sweat with the visor just cracked open slightly. I am now more concerned when it gets cold if there is too much airflow.

The negatives are that the interior padding is a harder material than the Nolan's thus it is not as comfortable. It is not bad. It is better than my low cost full face Zox helmet, but for the price I wish it was better. Also, with all the airflow you get wind noise. It is less annoying than the noise of my Nolan's but it is not as quiet as the Zox. I rate it about average in noise. I prefer the face locking mechanism of the Nolan's versus the Klim. I can envision in an accident, that the face shield can come open with a strike to the button. The double button of the Nolan is much more secure (although my wife hates it, as she has difficulty opening it). Finally installing a intercom on this helmet was not easy. The design of the neck roll made it difficult to run the cable to the control module and I could only find one spot flat enough to mount the uClear module.

In summary, if you are looking for a light weight helmet with great ventilation and vision, this is the helmet. Just be aware that it is only average on noise and comfort.

Just a final cosmetic note, it doesn't affect anything but the material of the white helmet does not feel or look like pure carbon fiber. I have a carbon fiber ski helmet and a painted carbon fiber bicycle helmet which both have a different texture and look. Maybe the painting process for this helmet causes this. Therefore if you are looking for the bling of carbon fiber, get the unpainted version.

Ex NEOTEC user
Coming from a Neotec the fit is very similar, the exception being around the checks is tighter. Ventilation and noise levels are similar. Field of view is better, love the Transition shield. The weight is a full pound lighter than Neotec.

Overall very happy with the Klim. Build quality is very good even though it is made in China.

Light and well ventillated, but loud and uncertain quality. Transitions face shield is a mixed blessing.
Long time Laser Monaco and Schuberth C3 and C3 pro user here. The Klim has less forehead room than the monaco, so went up a size, problem solved. Way more forehead room than the Schuberths. Feels kinda cheap, but if it holds up that's just a quibble. Noisy. Good ventilation - way better than schuberth. The transitions face shield is a mixed blessing. Overcast days still darken the face shield, and the transition is too slow to be useful while riding in and out of tunnels or shadows. Don't really know about protection. Would like to see the UK Sharp test done. I like the Euro ratchet neck strap.

Poor quality control??
I really wanted to like this one , so much so I spent the extra 20$ for expedited shipping. When I got the package I noticed first off the manufactures box had been open. Maybe a return ??? Put it on , fit fine but when I went to close the flip lid it would not latch. Upon closer inspection I found the latching mechanism was no where close to capturing the latch pins. And the alignment rails on both sides never engaged at the same time like they should. Everything in the lid assembly seemed cheap and flimsy. I have a Scorpion exo 900 (150$) that is rock solid in the lid operation. And blows the Klim out if the water on quality of the latching of the lid. I don't where Klims quality control is on this one ,but I know where it's not,,, it's not in the helmet I received. I wanted this to work , I thought I would move up to higher quality ( more expensive ) helmet . Sorry guys this one is not it. I'm going to save some pennies and get a better known helmet manufacturer. I'm glad it's with Revzilla , their customer service has been top notch over the years so returning it should be a non issue. Lesson learned here higher price does not always equal higher quality.

Noticeabley lighter than my C3
I bought the Klim to replace my 7 year old Schuberth C3 Pro. I chose it because of the Transitions face shield, never was a big fan of the integrated sun-visor on the C3. The Klim is lighter than the C3 and as stated in the Zilla video go up 1 size. I typically wear a small an bought a medium in this helmet, which is still kinda snug. Dislikes, no instructions (had to go online), pinlock does not come attached and ear-pads do not com attached.

How long will you be able to buy a shield?
I bought a Lazer Monaco which Lazer is the one making this helmet. 1 year later no transition sheilds and no sheilds with pinlock at all.

all you long ovals - take a look at this beauty
Previous favorite was medium Shoei Multitec modular with dark smoke shield. 5 years and the helmet looked brand new but non removable lining was wore out. I was never a perfect fit for it and always got a hot spot on my forhead if longer than 300 miles. ordered Schuberth C3Pro - medium too tight & forhead burn right away, & large just too big. tried the LS2 Strobe - Med too small, Large too big. side by side the shell size difference was comical. The Large was SO Massively larger that it looked funny. Shoei Neotec just wasn't going to work no matter what and I loved the looks & features. When I picked up the Klim I thought it was a fake styrofoam demo it was So LIGHT. It is basically the same weight as my HJC FG Jet which is not only not modular, its not even a full face. The KLIM TK1200 was so light & so comfortable. i have a long narrow melon and it must be getting longer & narrower as I never used to have so much difficulty 10, 20 & 30 years ago. the transition changed without me knowing it, the sun just didn't bother me and when I took it off it seemed bright out and the shield was darker that i thought it would get. Basically just as dark as my Shoei dark smoke. The micro ratchet was my first one and I like it. The internal visor would have been nice but the transition lens so effective It may be overkill, and cost it weight. It is odd in that the wind and external noise seemed quite surpressed, yet my stereo almost seemed louder as if it was amplifying the sound. It has little vents that I thought were exhaust vents behind the ear but they seemed to be openings to allow sound in, but not wind. The shield was crystal crystal clear & the detents were Perfect. It will hold at any setting up to 65mph, but is easy to adjust from notch to notch when you want to. Tons of room in the ear well for speakers. The space between chin and chin guard was plenty room for a boom microphone which i will be adding my Sena SMH to. The airflow was a pleasant surprise. Ive never had a helmet that flows air and this one is very obvious when you open the vents and that was important for here in FL heat. I got the white and it is a flat white that looks classy and the red reflector on the back looks cool. My wife said I want one too now... I will get her one without hesitation. Premium Helmet that fits me perfectly and I'm long oval.

Are Klim TK1200 helmets manufactured by Schuberth?
A shopper on Oct 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I believe it is made by Lazer. It looks exactly like the latest Monaco Evo and with the same features.
What head shape is this helmet best for?
Perry K on Sep 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Told that I am intermediate oval, by staff at Revzilla on site. Fits me better then Shoei's rf1200 or Neo Teck. No pressure points at all. Shoei I had pressure points on my forehead, but slight.
I love the fit, that is probably for me the best factor.
Is the pinlock lens supposed to be yellow?
A shopper on Jun 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The pinlock lens is totally clear. The protective film on it is yellow. The film gets removed before use.
How is the fit with glasses?
David J on Aug 14, 2018
BEST ANSWER: I wear glasses and have to take them off before putting the helmet on and remove them before taking helmet off. The opening in the helmet is way too narrow to put it on with my glasses on.
