Great product but needs a fly!
Went on an 8-hour ride yesterday in 90degree+ heat and the KLM Tac Shorts worked great, except when I had to pull over to take a leak, quite the gyrations to get down to pepe...in rattlesnake country, roadside whizzes need to be quick or one can experience a head bite, or worse, a taint bite (cannot tourniquet a taint)...so, bottom line, a workable fly is a must.

Great protection gear
I was using this shorts when I had a lateral crash with a SUV that made a left turn while I was passing it. As a result I was impacted on all my right side. Fortunatelly I was using full gear including this shorts that protected my hips and upper legs. I highly recommend this protective garment by my own experience, and will be using in all touring rides.

Casual fit under jeans, with good protective quality
Tried the force field shorts, which had more protection, but I felt like an nfl linebacker. This is great product that will fit under jeans and is fairly discrete and comfortable to wear with a whole day if riding. Would definately recommend.

Most useful protective shorts I've found
I tried a few other options but all were too uncomfortable for cruiser riding. They claim the armor will stiffen on impact. I hope that is the case because it feels pretty thin but I know a lot of great things have come from those material engineers. I hope this is one of them. The shorts are very comfortable and easy to wear which means I "will" wear them where I would not wear the others I tried. And as they say, gear is only good if you will wear it. So, I'd recommend these to anyone looking for some reasonable protection. I'm 5'10" 190lbs and the large fit well.

Best In Category
I tried Alpinestars Bionic Freeride Shorts and Knox's Defender Shorts along with the Klim Tactical Shorts. These had the best armor and were a lot more comfortable with way more maneuverability.

The armor has a good feel to it... sort of like firmly squishy if that makes sense. You can push on it and it'll gradually sink in a little but if you fall on it, its solid. I'm on the thin side so my hip bones stand out more than average, these protected there as well as everywhere I needed whereas the others not so much.

Of the three I tried, these were by far the least restrictive. They stay where they are supposed to. They're comfortable and I dont feel them when I'm riding. For reference I use them under my Alpinestars Missile Airflow Pants.

I ride a Yamaha R1M so they might feel better for a more relaxed upright seating position, but Astars armor wouldn't let me lift my knees where I need them and Knox's armor didn't cover my hip bone.

If you're looking into these, I would buy a few different ones and keep the best fit but definitely give these a try.

Great under normal pants
The Klim Tactical Shorts are fantastic for wearing under a normal pair of pants around town, or when you don't want to wear full gear. They are true to size, have a good amount of padding in all the right spots, but aren't bulky, so no one will know you are wearing them when you walk into a store. The Armor is good quality, the chamois is comfortable, the tail bone armor is not to big or pushing up while seated, and the fabric does a good job of wicking moisture away from your body.
They are a bit pricy, and I wish, as with most klim products, that they were a little more affordable, but I believe it's a case of getting what you pay for.
I will eventually buy another pair, but these seem to wear well, and look like they will hold up and last a long time.

Just what I was looking for.
Two weeks ago I attended the Aaron Stephenson Cornerspin school which teaches road skills on a dirt track so that you can learn the thresholds of traction in a safe environment. I also snowboard and am going to start doing track days so a good pair of impact shorts was needed. I looked at reviews for everything from lightly padded boxer briefs to shorts that appear to have grenade proof ballistic plates all over them. In the end, I knew I wanted a blend of protection and comfort. Too little protection and there's little point. Too little comfort and I'll probably talk myself out of wearing them when I ought to. My first impression of these shorts when I received them was that the padding was on the lighter duty than what I was looking for. However, they claim that their engineers made this super amazing padding that absorbs and distributes impacts while being flexible. I also really liked the padded chamois feature. Now it was off to the class to see how they would do.
The class involves a lot good bit of wiping out on hard packed dirt. Fortunately I didn't manage to high side during my many unintentional dismounts. Despite these many falls of landing on my sides (elbows, hips, & knees), I had absolutely no bruising on my hips and I believe these shorts are to thank for that. Additionally, I found them to be very comfortable and not restrictive at all. I would recommend these if your situation is similar to mine. If I were to start racing on track vs my occasional track day, I might look for something with a bit more padding, but for going to the mountains, these will fit easily and comfortably under a pair of kevlar jeans.

I am 5'11" tall, 180 lbs, 33" waist. I bought the medium and large and kept the large. The medium could fit but was a bit more snug than I wanted.

Love these
I bought these originally to wear with some Klim pants that had no internal armor in the hips. However, these are perhaps one of the best clothing purchases I have ever made. I fully expect they would be very helpful for protection in a fall, but more than that... they have made riding long distances much more comfortable. The triple layer padding in the crouch is great and they wick moisture very well. I love these and wear them any time I plan to be on the bike more than an hour. So I don't tend to wear them for commuting, but if I am out for a serious ride, or on a weekend adventure, you can be guaranteed these are coming with me.

they're OK
They're very good quality base layer shorts, but there are a few issues. First, the gaps in the padded areas are begging to be exploited by branches or any other hazards, leaving a sense of vulnerability - strange from a piece of protection. Second, the padded seat looks to be designed for a bicycle seat. It doesn't reach the 'sitting bones' but sits in there where a bicycle seat would be. I can't say it's totally ineffective on a motorbike, though. Next, these are warm. I'd say wear them when it's cold out. Also, the silicone strip around the thighs are good at ripping leg hairs at inopportune moments. It must be another reason why bicycle guys shave their legs. And then the price... But they're comfortable (in the cool weather) and I like the way they beef up existing hip protection. I wear them. Buy a pair if you're in a splurging mood.
