What's this?

Klim Krios Vanquish Helmet

Vanquishing the notion that an Adventure helmet must be a compromise falling short in performance of designated off-road and street-specific helmets, Klim has broken new ground with the Klim Krios Helmet and demanded that no concessions be made in either department. High Performance Carbon-Fiber construction makes the Klim Krios Adventure Helmet one of the lightest weight adventure helmets ever created, while both ECE and DOT standards testify that Klim has not sacrificed strength of the shell or safety to do so. The Klimatek Fabric liner system and aerodynamically superior design combine to create an acoustically peaceful riding experience. Four different riding configurations can be achieved quickly and without the use of tools, making the Klim Krios Adventure Helmet the most versatile, technologically advanced ADV helmet ever.

The Vanquish graphic adds a killer edge to the already eye catching Krios. Aggressive lines and exposed hand-laid carbon make the Krios Vanquish helmet look as fast as you are.

Features:

  • Includes Pinlock-ready clear face shield, Pinlock-ready dark smoke face shield and 1 Pinlock insert
  • Hand-laid full-carbon shell features a wide carbon weave
  • Aerodynamic visor and spoiler attributes to stabilize and put riders’ heads at ease
  • Klimatek Fabric liner systems utilize adaptive smart foam technology and anti-microbial/bacterial fast-wicking textiles

  • Intelligent ventilation system ensures riders will keep their cool when the terrain heats up
  • Airflow through the chin bar vent and a close-able top vent make it comfortable from slow-to-go

Best ADV Helmet I've owned, and I've owned a few!
This is probably the best ADV helmet I've worn to date. Its very good but does have some short comings.

My previous helmet was the Arai XD-4. I've also owned an XD-3, and a Shoei Hornet X2.

It might also help if I describe the type of riding I do. I currently ride a BMW R1200GS Adventure but have owned other ADV bikes. I like to think I do 50/50. I live at the base of the Rockies, so just about every ride I take involves some dirt. Sometime though it takes getting on the highway to get to that dirt.

Aside from wanting a safe helmet that will protect me in a crash, my biggest concerns are buffeting and breathability.

This helmet does both extremely well but with a cost of it being louder/noisier than either my Arai XD-4 or Hornet X2.

My XD-4 was relatively quiet and breathed really well even in the middle of summer working my way through a technical section. But at highway speeds up to 75 mph or more the vibration or buffeting was pretty bad after awhile. It would make me slow down to lessen the buffeting. This helmet has no such issues. Up to 80 mph it was like wearing a non-peaked helmet.

My Hornet X2 was also quiet and was outstanding on the highway. Very little buffeting/vibration, but when off-road and working through a technical section it did not breathe well. I kept wishing for more airflow. And although the X2 is supposed to be an intermediate oval, its the first Shoei that did not fit me well it gave me a pressure point I've never felt on any other Shoei.

The Krios breathes well at a slow pace, its light, has a wide opening, and has even less buffeting at highway speeds than my X2. But what you pay the price with noise level. Its loud at highway speeds and you can hear everything your bike is doing. I thought my GSA developed some new noise, but when I put my Arai back on it does such a good job of noise reduction the sound was gone.

The opening for your head is a bit more narrow than other helmets as well. Initially you feel the helmet going on as you pass your head through the opening and think its too small, but once on, it very comfortable. I have to say it is one of the most comfortable helmets I've worn.

So far so good as I've only got a few hundred miles on it. I'll write back after a year. But as of right now its a really good option if you are concerned with breathability and buffeting...

Great summer helmet
I purchased this as a second helmet to my Shoei RF1200. This one is noticeably lighter, thanks to the carbon fiber construction I'm sure. The field of vision is better, and airflow is excellent. I like the look, the dual-purpose design gives it a different character than the street-only Shoei. It's also very comfortable to wear, as well as put on and take off. Taking off the Shoei can cost you your ears if you're not careful, not so with the Krios. There's also plenty of room for my Sena speakers in the ear wells. On the downside, it feels like the visor causes a bit of drag at high speeds, wanting to pull your head back. I adjusted the angle and managed to mitigate most of that, but there's still a little bit there. The Krios is also louder than the RF1200. It's not terrible, but you'll notice going from one to the other. I'm guessing that's the trade-off for the better breathing and lighter weight. There are no adjustments for airflow, either, no vents to close. I imagine that'll make it a little colder in the winter. I plan to wear this in the summer, though, so it should be fine. Riding with the visor up doesn't cause nearly the whistling the RF1200 does, but it's pretty buggy where i live, so i don't do it much anyway. The feel of whatever brain-eating monster bug that just flew inside your helmet crawling around on your face where you can't reach it puts a damper on open-visor riding...

I'd definitely recommend this helmet, and RevZilla, if you're looking for a new lid.

Best ADV Helmet Currently Available, but needs some refinement
Pros-The Krios helmet was excellent for my long ride. It is lighter and has more the feel of a dirtbike helmet, but still keeps your face well sealed from the elements. I have worn a number of helmets over the years from all manufacturers. This feels light like my AGV Corsa helmet, but is definitely larger and includes a larger windscreen and visor. I found that with the windscreen in place, I was well protected from the dust. I was only in rain for about 20 minutes over the two weeks, so I can't comment on how the helmet really holds up in the rain. It does use a pinlock (included with the helmet when purchased), and seemed to do just fine in the short shower we rode in.

Cons- I wore earplugs during the ride, but the helmet would be pretty noisy without the plugs. I think that is something that you get with lightweight helmets though. They are focused on comfort and performance, but do not use as much padding etc to reduce wind noise. I also found that the one vent on the helmet was almost impossible to adjust while riding, especially once it started to get dust in it. Around the last day of the trip, I noticed that the piping that surrounds the face on the helmet had also started to separate, but KLIM is starting a warranty claim for me on this now. One other note, is that although the helmet appeared to be a perfect fit when I tried it on at the shop, after maybe 2-3 hours of riding I found that the front was creating a hot spot on my forehead and left a good sized mark. The helmet doesn't have a lot of padding inside, and you start to feel the hard foam after a bit. I have never really had that problem with any other helmet I have worn. It really reminds me more of a dirt-bike helmet converted for street use than a dirt worthy road helmet.

Overall, I was very happy with this helmet and think it is the best helmet available for this type of riding. My older brother also bought this helmet and was more than happy with it. He had similar complaints on the ventilation and noise, but overall we were happy. My dad had the Schuberth E1 and really liked it as well, but he also loves modular helmets. The helmet was too heavy for me and I personally do not like modular helmets. His was probably much more quiet and provided more padding than mine did though.

Klim always delivers exactly what you want
I love love love everything about this helmet, only complaint is my friend bought one and got a really trick bag with his. Mine didn't come with one and I'm slightly agitated over that that. But other than that, perfect choice for an ADV helmet.

Excellent Helmet!
Just finished up about 1200 miles in this helmet over the last two weeks. I first ordered a large (my usual helmet size) and it was way too big, I returned it and got the medium. Now the medium took a bit of breaking in to make putting on and taking it off comfortable but now it's absolutely perfect. The fit once on has been comfy and secure since the first time I wore it. The shield is amazing it comes with a clear and smoked both are great! The helmet works great for me in "street" mode with the visor off (900 miles on pavement with no visor and it felt like any nice street helmet) and it's really not bad even at 80Mph+ with the visor on. Also I rode for almost 300 miles in 100+ heat and I don't think I'd wear another helmet anywhere near the desert again, it was amazing and kept me from cooking. This is a fantastically styled and really cool helmet, I highly recommend it to anyone looking for that one perfect ADV helmet.

Really wanted to love this helmet.
current using an Aria Xd4 medium I was really looking forward to this helmet.
Took my time measuring my head and ordered a Large.
Received the helmet and was amazed how light it was true it on and it was way too big.
Got a medium shipped and was surprised that I could hardly get it on, the shell is tiny.
The padding inside is thin and feels more like round than oval helmet.
Comparing the quality with the XD4, I have a feeling I will keep the XD4.

First helmet I've had worth the time to rate
I've been a life long rider, and have been wearing helmets since I was 6 years old. 41 years later, I've been through a lot of helmets.

This is the first helmet that I have owned worth the time to rate. I ride Ducati Streetfighter. I've added a few parts to the bike, and now she has an attitude; this helmet has looms that rival my feisty bikes attitude. It's bad ass looking.

But it also has fit, finish, and feel that's equal or better to the best on the market. The weight is surprising; yet it feels like it could cause a round from a tank cannon to ricochet. The carbon fiber looks really cool. The finish is really stealthy looking; not like the typical cheesy plastic carbon fiber knock off look.

It was comfortable from first time I put it on. In my case, there was no break in required. This helmet is the first that I have where I really feel the airflow moving around my face; and I've never owned lower end helmets. I could feel airflow in my Arai's and Shoei's, but it was just an ambient coolness, not a "flow". Likely the shape of head, or full head of hair.

If there is a "con", it's that the helmet is slightly noisier than typical from what I personally am used to. However, this is my first "adventure" helmet; I'm used to upper end sport helmets.

None the less, this is a quality helmet. My first Klim product purchase. I've subsequently bought a Klim jacket and gloves.

BEST ANSWER: It does..
Will this helmet work with goggles other than the Klim ones (fit-wise)?
Cameron S on May 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes. Other brands of goggles actually fit better than the Radius goggles due to the large vent on the top of the Radius goggles pushing down
Is the peak removable on this helmet?
Justin S on Feb 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the peak is removable. Depending on terrain I run goggles under the visor, the visor shuts fine. The helmet is super light weigh, the vison is perfect. Extremely happy with my purchase of this helmet. Only down side, it could have more ventilation.
