Icon Hypersport Pro Gloves

An extension of your desire to push the limits, the Icon Hypersport Pro Long Gloves have a grip it and rip it attitude worth of the tightest tracks and most terrifying twisties. Using materials purposely chosen for their innate abilities to give you the upper hand.

It all starts with a French cowhide and kangaroo chassis. The French cowhide backhand, supple and strong, provides excellent comfort and flexibility. The kangaroo palm, a hallmark of purpose-built track gloves, provides optimum abrasion resistance and dexterity. Additional panels of digital BattleHide goatskin are located in areas of high wear from grips. The mechanical articulation panels, which run the length of each finger, provide excellent flexibility from the very first wear, no break-in period needed.

Key construction techniques include Icon’s exclusive floating knuckle, which allows for maximum knuckle articulation, and an out-seamed finger box for all day comfort. The Hypersport gloves feature full knuckle coverage from the vented TPU/Polycarbonate knuckle plates. The Unit Fused gauntlet also features large external TPU wrap-around coverage and Unit Fused reinforced ventilation panels. Multiple hook & loop closures allow for a secure fit.

Degrades easily not worth it
I got these gloves at the beginning of last season. I'm halfway through this one and the glove lining feels in not good condition and the wrist band that velcros the glove sealed and shut has almost completely worn off. At any speed over 40mph it flies open very unsafely. Besides being distracting it kind of defeats the purpose of a gauntlet glove. I was pleased at first. Really in comparison no glove has as much of a great design. But in terms of quality this glove is terrible. The velcro strips need to be way higher quality or have a button snap to help it stays on. I've never felt like I've wasted money on gear until I bought these gloves. Bummer

Dang Icon
I am surprised. Full disclosure: I usually turn my nose up at joe rocket, Icon, speed and strength, etc. But I was looking for some inexpensive gauntlets last minute, Thought these actually looked pretty badass, and gave 'em a shot. Not only Do they look good, but they're one of the most comfortable gloves Ive put on.

PRO:
-Looks
-Comfort
-True to size
-UNREAL airflow
-Very sensitive with good connection to throttle
-rock hard gauntlet section of glove

CON:
-Kangaroo skin, while soft and durable, always throws me off d/t thinness, but thats a mental game.
-Could have a smidge more palm padding, just a smidge

Flawed design, and low quality that doesn't last
For context, I bought a pair of these maybe 9-10 months ago. I've put 3500-4000 miles on the bike since I got them, split between short commutes and occasional 100-200 mile weekend rides. So I've lived with them for a little while.

First impressions are that the fit is not good. I tried a pair of the shorty versions in a local store, but they didn't stock gauntlets so I ordered them from here. The shorties felt OK, but a touch tight, like gloves pre-break in should, so I thought I'd gotten a good fit.

When I got the long gloves, it was nearly impossible to get me hand into them, but not because they were tight where it mattered. They were super tight in the wrist area, so I could barely get the narrow part for the wrist over my thumb, yet the palm and fingers were a bit loose.

The closure system is also suspect. I wish I'd tried on the long gloves in the store, in fact. The thin wrist strap is placed at a bad spot, so it constricts entry, but forces you to wrap it around the wrist or fasten it to the large velcro patch where it has a lot less leverage and distorts the feel of the glove. Also, the large velcro flap enclosure is getting pretty weak. It has always needed a little fussing to get over the cuff of my jacket, but I don't know that it will remain fastened during a crash if my hand is trailing behind me.

Anyway, the fit is the odd part. As they broke in, I could get them on more easily. But at the same time within a few weeks the elastication was gone on the fingers and so my fingertips sit a half inch away from the ends of the glove. I have honked my horn several times with the unfilled tip of the glove's thumb while reaching for a turn signal. I can live with it, but it's just a bad design. My hands are very average in shape.

Also, the palm bunches up a lot. Yet the wrist is still tight and presses the back of my thumb. I'm constantly fidgeting with these gloves while I ride. The fit and design is just off.

Now for the good news: I won't have to much longer. Because the stitching has failed on the left glove and now the palm is separating away from the pinky and ring finger backing leather. These gloves that cost nearly $200 are trash in less than a year of very gentle use.

In the past, I've had gloves of a similar price, and much cheaper, and somehow always got 18 months to 2 years out of them when I was putting 12,000-15,000 miles a year on the bike. I'm going back to a no-name that I've had as backups for 6 years and that are ridiculously comfortable until my new Held's arrive.

When they are new, I bet they are adequate for safety. The knuckle protectors are articulated so they don't crush your knuckles (like an A-star if you're not exactly their shape) and the roo leather palm should last a long time. The stitching is crap, though, which negates any benefits to the roo leather for crash protection.

All in all, these were a waste of money. I thought I was upgrading by going for a higher end glove, and I was just paying more. The difference in price to really good gloves is worth it.

Great gauntlet
I previously had the ICON TiMax and could not find it anymore. The kangaroo leather on these is great. Same protection will less material. They vent very well.

how would this glove do in the cold?
Blake S on Dec 26, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I have very poor circulation in my hands, and comfortably wear these gloves in the cold fairly often. They are not "winter riding gloves" but they do pretty well in the 40-50 range. If you are going to be riding in colder weather than that pretty often I would probably look into a glove that is designed for the winter. But if you just want a glove to last you into the summer, these would do nicely.
My hands measure 4 inches wide as per the sizing chart.
My fingers are reasonably long.
Should I go down to a 3 3/4 or up to a 4 1/4 in the Icon Hypersport Pro Long Gloves ?
Ray M on Jun 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The fingers are within reason long but in terms of fitment i would go a size up for ease of donning the gloves
