It dose its job well.
This thing may seem dumb or unnecessary, but I'll tell you what, I use this thing all the time, from cleaning, to just throwing my helmet on it after a ride. It seems trivial but having to place your helmet down on its bottom is just more movements, plus having it upside down lets it air out better.

Useful in niche situations
This is one of those products that yeah, you could probably live without, but for a dedicated rider that does all their own maintenance, work on their helmet, etc, this will make a lot of it incredibly easier.
