Nice Design, Poor Quality Control
I have a FirstGear Kilimanjaro jacket that I absolutely love, but I needed a jacket for hot summer temps. I'm 6' 3", 215 and the LX Tall in the Kilimanjaro was perfect (my arms are even a bit long for my height). This jacket was shorter in body length and shorter in the sleeve length. Wish it was longer, but it was acceptable. Much cooler than the Kilimanjaro. Pockets anywhere you might want one--there are a lot of pockets! The jacket has a zip in liner. With the liner out, it was much cooler driving to work in the upper 80s--I did not end up arriving soaked from perspiration. When I came home in the middle of the night and the temps had dropped, putting the liner in kept me from getting cold. I was pretty satisfied with the jacket, initially, but after 8 rides of less than one hour each, the seem along one of the sleeves started to come apart. I contacted FirstGear, had some email back and forth issues with my email being rejected by their server, but they ended up telling me they were having that same issue with many jackets and they were discontinuing the jacket. They offered to replace it with any jacket of my choice from their inventory that had the same or lower MSRP. Fair enough offer, but they did not have another hot weather riding jacket and that is what I wanted. Decided to just keep the jacket and I'll either attempt a sewing job or, more likely, some sort of adhesive gortex patch.

Exactly what I was looking for
The video shows that it fits on the large side, which is true, but it fits very true to the actual measurements of the sizing chart. I love this jacket so much, I'm tempted to buy a spare just for down the road when I need a replacement and they don't make this one anymore. At 6'4", nearly every jacket on the market with the sport cut hits me right at the top edge of my belt buckle, which makes me feel like a cheerleader in some midriff shirt. The extra length here is perfect. All the pockets you could ask for, and the other killer feature for me is the zipperless waterproof pockets on the front, which is rare in full mesh. No more fumbling with ziplock bags for my phone/wallet on trips!

Two minor issues
Love the jacket. Its everything it claims to be. I would give it five full stars except for two minor issues. In removing the liner, the first snap I opened broke. Its the top center snap at the collar. All of the snaps on this jacket are metal... except this one which is plastic. Why would they do that? Its an easy fix for me, so not that big a deal. The other issue is even more minor. The cut of the jacket causes it to work upward in front and down in back, causing it to pull slightly up against my neck. When worn unzipped while not riding it wants to fall off my shoulders. Again, not that bad. It may just be the way I'm built. It really breathes well, and with the liner in for more warmth, wind is thoroughly blocked. The fit is a little large, but its better than going a size smaller and having the arms too short. All in all, I'm pleased with my purchase.

Great Jacket so far
I got this jacket because it is longer and fits me better. I am 5-10, 220 with a long torso and this jacket fits way better than the others I tried. Lots of adjustments and the quality is good. I usually wear an XL-Tall in jackets but these run big. I ordered an Large-Tall and that was the right fit.

I upgraded the armor to Klim D-30 (CE-2) for the shoulders, elbows and back. I called Revzilla and they told me what armor fits best. The shoulder pouches are adjustable for the armor too.

A jacket I can wear in the heat
I'm a firm believer that if you're not comfortable you won't wear it. This is the only jacket that I have worn in 90 degree full sun heat and was comfortable! I am actually cooler wearing this . It should also be said that I'm a BIG guy sporting a keg instead of 6pack abs and there is plenty of room without having to add more X's than my normal size. The only complaint that I have is the elbow armor needs to be pushed back into place every time that I put it on

Not fancy but effective
I just returned from a Spokane to Lancaster PA trip. I bought this jacket because my old FG Kili would be too much jacket for the temps expected and my FG Mesh Tex doesn’t provide enough room for layering. This jacket provided the mesh I was looking for as well as a bit looser fit to allow a heated liner if necessary. It turns out that the lowest temp experienced was in the mid 40’s. High temps were in the low to mid 90’s. At the lower temps the included wind liner and two shirt layers were adequate. At the high temps it would have been nice to have a little more open weave but while moving air flow was okay. Fortunately, we only had about 50 miles of rain. The jacket dried quickly once the rain stopped. The jacket fits well, both of my other FG jackets are Lg Tall, this one is a Med. Tall and it’s about perfect. It has at least two more pockets than it needs, the upper two. And I’d appreciate a bit more collar, something that could be adjusted. Overall I’m very satisfied with my purchase.

Bad Choice Grabs too much air and feels unsafe on Highway
Looks good, but grabs too much air. I felt like I was wearing a kite! This makes the Jacket is unsafe for highway use (in my opinion). If your just taking side streets, fine. I would never buy another jacket from this Maker, I have since bought another brand and it works great and feels safe for the highway.

Great Summer Jack
I live in Houston, so its hot and humid hear most of the year, therefore I ride this jacket most of the year. Great air flow just like most "all mesh" jackets are. Decent protection, but wish it had more for the back. With the wind liner in I generally ride this with a short sleeve shirt down into the side 60's before looking for another jacket or a base layer of some sort. All in all it is a solid ride when heat and humidity are your nemesis.

Meets and Exceeds Expectations!!
Living in southwestern Virginia, we certainly have to deal with our share of heat and humidity during the summer. It’s important to find riding gear that will provide some relief from the heat and still provide great protection. For me, the temptation to ride without appropriate safety gear is highest in the summer due to the discomfort from the heat. It’s with this in mind that I purchased the Firstgear Adventure Mesh Jacket.

My primary ride is a Yamaha FJR, so I’m riding more sport touring and not so much ADV. I spend about 75% of my time on the local streets and backroads here in the mountains of SW Virginia. The other 25% I spend on interstate or other “high-speed” roads.

First impressions: when I opened the box and unwrapped this jacket I was immediately impressed with the quality and workmanship. In full disclosure, I already own a Firstgear Kathmandu jacket, so I was expecting a high-quality product. The jacket feels heavy right out of the box, but that weight disappeared as I put the jacket on - It fit in all the right places.

Functionality: This jacket is LOADED with pockets. Honestly, I can’t ever see an occasion where I would use even half of them. There are 8 on the front of the jacket in a various shapes and orientations. The main zipper works flawlessly (no fumbling getting it seated and pulled up) and appears to be of a really heavy-duty quality. The liner pouch is nice, but I had room on the bike so I stored it there. The padding / armor is top quality. I did upgrade the back protection (Klim D3O Viper T5 Pro Back Protector fit perfectly).

Fit: I’m 6’-2 / 240 lbs. / 44” chest. I have long arms (usually wearing a 36”/37” sleeve length dress shirt). I ordered the Large Tall. Perfect fit. The adjustable waist and arm straps let me customize the fit even more. The collar is comfortable and didn’t cause me any discomfort.

Performance Test: I bought this jacket with the intention of wearing it on an 8-day tour of California. I knew I’d be experiencing temperatures from the 40’s to the 90’s and I would NOT have the luxury of bringing 2 jackets. This baby performed perfectly! From the cool dry temps of the Sierra’s, to the cool damp temps along the coast, to the hot dry temps of the central valley – I had NO complaints. The liner (I used it on the coolest days) was easy to deploy when needed. Funny story – we are riding from the coast to Fresno and the temp changes from low 60’s to the upper 90’s. Once in the central valley we stopped and many of the riders striped down to tank tops and tee shirts. I just pulled the liner. They looked at me and said “Man, you must be burning up in that thing…” “Nope,” I was just fine. They just didn’t seem to understand the difference between radiant heat and convective heat. By the time we got to Fresno, they were all just about heat stroked. In that environment, cover from the sun is critical.

Complaints / Recommendations: I don’t ride through tolls very often, but on a trip in Maine this summer I had to stop at 3 toll booths. Each time I removed my wallet from the front pouch pockets the pocket lining inverted. This was a pain to deal with when wearing gloves and trying to shove my wallet back in the pocket. Could the pocket lining be stitched to the shell or mess to prevent this?? It would be great if the quilted liner from my Kathmandu jacket worked with this jacket. It may, but my Kathmandu is an XL Tall while this is a LG Tall.

Final Analysis: I give this jacket 5 stars!! It performed well above my expectations. I would highly recommend it!

I was looking for a hi viz jacket for my daily commute that looks like it would be a good fit for me. (Update) Now after a few months of use I am really pleased with this jacket. Living in New England we have changing weather regularly. I have ridden with this jacket in the low 60's with additional layers under it and have also ridden wit the liner removed vents open on a 94 degree day and felt the air flow through the jacket cooling me off. Very Pleased.

I needed a summer jacket and this seemed like a good value, I wear tall size clothes and I hope it fits...

I have worn this jacket now on several rides in Arizona it is fairly comfortable and it fits me well..the only thing i don't like is how it fits at my neck line when zipped all the way up...it rubs on my neck while riding and i tend to zip it down 3-4" to get some freedom from the uncomfortable neck line fabric.

My current Sedici Large mesh is simply too short in the torso and sleeves for my comfort. My winter FirstGear jacket has served me well in a Large/Tall. I'm 6'3 185lbs and will report back whether the LT or MT fits better. I ordered both thanks to Revzilla's generous restocking policy. I've purchased a ton of gear form them over the past couple of years and the service has been absolutely TOP NOTCH

Can you guys do a video about this jacket?

Your description says "tailored fit", while others on the net says boxy (ie: fat American) fit. Does this jacket fir more like the TPG line or is it more like the Kili?
A shopper on Apr 3, 2014
BEST ANSWER: This jacket is definitely American fit. I am 6"1" 275 lbs, 48" waist, 50" chest.
The 3x jacket fit jwell with room to add additional layers. The waist velcro has plenty of range. It is probably twice the weight of my previous summer mesh jacket. The shoulder and elbow hard armor have a layer of padding also. the padding seems to be able to move independently of the armor. I do not know how that will affect protection. The scratchy tags for size are right where it irritates my neck. I do not know why they do this. Behind the neck should be a baby soft microfiber or fleece patch and nothing else. When I get it broke in these are coming off. Part of the extra weight is the layers for the pockets. This has crazy many pockets. That is how I count 1,...2,....many. I like the way the liner stores in the tail. Most jackets are too short and I get a 3" strip of belly bulge showing between the bottom of the jacket and my belt. This one keeps me covered. I originally got the 4XL. Unless you are 6'4" tall it will be too big. Oregon Jim
Is it possible to upgrade the shoulder and elbow armor in the Jacket to D3O? And if so, what would fit?
Scott A on Mar 17, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Well I bought two Firstgear jackets, a Mesh Tex and an Adventure Mesh, both size medium tall. The movable shoulder and elbow pad pockets were the same size in both jackets. The D30 shoulder and elbow pads available here, either the T5 sold by Icon or the T5 Pro XT sold by Klim, both fit the pockets very well. The back pad pockets though were different sizes. I was very surprised that the back pad pocket in the Mesh Tex jacket was alot larger than the one in the Adventure Mesh even though the jackets were the same size and the Mesh Tex is a much trimmer jacket. The Viper Pro back pad sold by Klim is a size large D30 product and fit the medium tall Adventure Mesh jacket perfectly. The Mesh Tex will need a size extra large Viper Pro or Viper Stealth D30 back pad to completely fill out the back pad pocket properly but Revzilla doesn't carry an extra large D30 back pad that I can find.
Regarding the First Gear Adventure Mesh jacket, Is the arm length listed on the size chart the actual arm length of the jacket? Since motorcycle jacket arms are longer then a regular suite jacket. So which is it my dress shirt length or the actual length of the motorcycle jacket?

Hey guys - anxious to buy the Firstgear Adventure Mesh and need to double check sizes.
I typically wear a 2XL and am 6'3
My Teknic Freeway in 2XL fits perfectly and I have heard the Firstgear sizes are larger than normal

Wondering if I should go with the 2XLTall or an XLTall???

Thanks!

Joseph

BEST ANSWER: Joe if you can try on a Tourmaster at a local shop that would be the sizing that you could use for the Firstgear. they are sized very similar.

Is all the armor removable?
A shopper on Apr 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes all the armor (back, shoulder and elbow pads) are removable.
It uses a fairly standard pocket type system and is a quite straight forward process to access.
In fact I changed all my armor with Klim D3O upgrades and I am very happy with the overall package.
What is the best way to clean the jacket?
Larry G on May 15, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Easy. I had the same question. I contacted Firstgear directly on this.

Answer: Wash it separately in cold water.

Let it hang or air dry. It was not recommended to put in a dryer. The mesh dries much faster than the Firstgear Kilamanjaro textile jacket.

Just remember to remove the shoulder and elbow pads. Wash the liner separately as well in cold water.

Washed both textile and mesh jackets this way with no issues
Does the liner have sleeves or is it only a vest?

BEST ANSWER: Sleeves that snap to the jacket st the wrist to hold them in place.
41 inch chest, 33 inch waste - what size jacket?
A shopper on Jul 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'm 6'2" - 6'3" tall, 205#, wear a 34"X34" jean at the waist, & my chest is a 44. I wear a Large Tall Adventure Mesh Jacket. These jackets are "true to fit" and fit/wear really well. This makes my 2nd Adventure Jacket. I'm glad they fixed the inner liner to improve wet weather protection, but I digress. I bought my first when they originally came out. I also have the First Gear Kilimanjaro 3 season jacket as a Large Tall. My First Gear pants are 36 Tall, but even though I've lost a little more weight, they still fit okay since I wear them as an over pant. I'd buy the whole bunch again without a 2nd thought if needed. Hope this helps. Ride safe.
Hi, I'm 5'9" weight 230lbs, 48" chest, 43" waist measured across the navel. Fairly athletic frame. Which size would be best fit for me? Thank you.

BEST ANSWER: They run close to size so look at the chart. If your looking to wear additional layers then step up a size.
