Dunlop Roadsmart 3 Tires

Motorcyclists are often used to compromise. A tire that is good in the dirt suffers on the tarmac, a bike that can turn a nine second quarter mile will take far longer than that to pull a U-turn and a sport-touring tire will either last a long time or it will be fun. We rarely end up with everything our little hearts desire. If you are a sport-touring rider, those days just might be behind you. The Dunlop Roadsmart 3 Tires provide excellent wet weather grip, thanks to Dunlop's Interconnecting Groove Tread technology, yet also provide great handling, excellent longevity and a confidence inspiring feel thanks to their MultiTread compound.

The revised front tire profile and rayon ply carcass provide precise handling and feedback. Additionally, far less rider input is required for steering, which means your comfortable sport-touring rig will ride more like a chiropractor-pocket-lining supersport. Dunlop's iGT design lends the Roadsmart 3s an aggressive look, but it is not just for aesthetics. Interconnecting grooves ensure consistent tire wear and promote top level performance until your tire's final days, even in inclement weather.

Features:

  • Entirely revised rayon ply carcass and front profile requires less steering input and provides precise handling without sacrificing Roadsmart's trademark confidence inspiring feel and feedback
  • Interconnecting Groove Tread (iGT) provides excellent water evacuation while promoting even tire wear
  • MultiTread compound with tri-polymer blend and high dispersion silica mix provides increased mileage and wet weather grip
  • MT compound and iGT design work together to ensure top level performance for the life of the tire

So far so good
Was a huge fan of PR2's for my FJR. Tried the PR3's didn't really like them all that much, went back to PR2's and then tried Roadsmart 2's. I really liked the 2's, they were a great tire with plenty of grip, great wet weather handling and I like the way they performed 2up (first set of tires I rode 2up for most of the life of the tire). I got just a shade under 10K on the rear (probably had another 500 or so in the tire, but long trip coming up and the front had more then the rear to go) before I replaced with the Roadsmart 3's. So far, I am liking the 3's more then the 2's, All the things I liked about the 2's I like even more with the 3's. So far, just a short 2up trip up I-5, but is was on as twisty a section as you can find on the slab. Mostly dry, but with a few sprinkles here and there. I felt very confidant on my freshly scrubbed in tires pushing a little harder on each sweeper. I will update after the upcoming trip.

Loving them but...
I got these tiers after my 2007 Honda Hornet 600 ate a set of Michelin PR 4 which lasted a solid 22000 kilometers. But i really didn't want to shell out that much again and wanted something a bit more interesting. Got these and really liked them so far. The front is a little vague sometimes and the rear did slip out once or twice when really pushing it off the line. It takes a few miles to get the fell for these but once you do their really pretty impressive. Just hope they last as long:)

Fantastic
I got these as a cheaper alternative to my previous Pilot Road 4's. So far I'm not disappointed. They seem to function just as nice for a bit cheaper; they handle the cold and wet fantastic while not sacrificing grip in the twisties in the dry. Plus, they're made in America! I've got a bit over 1,500 miles on them and they aren't showing signs of wear yet. I've got a 1,400 mile trip on them next week and we'll see how they hold up there.

GIVE THESE A TRY
2016 BMW R1200RS. Only at 600 miles so can't comment on longevity or grip since I haven't pushed them really hard yet. I don't have much of a chicken striped left and they seem to hold the road just fine. No issues yet. I really have to give these tires a thumbs up on performance. Really makes for a fun lively ride. I mean they feel great!!! Much quicker turn in with less effort than the Michelin PR4 or the Metzeler Z8 or the new Roadtec 01. Really brings out the performance of this RS.

RoadSmart 3 front tire
Great tire, looks Awesome after 3800 miles.....I have had other tires that just look old after just a couple months, This one looks nice with Clean lines to Make any Bike look Better..!!
I like the way it rides and is Quiet. I have no worries about losing traction on The Asphalt and holds well on Dirt Roads, I have a RoadSmart 2 on the Rear and have not been afraid of either on unpaved surfaces (but as we all know-Hard Gravel and hard roads are Tough on any tire/bike) . I will be purchasing the 3 for the rear Soon.

What an upgrade
Put these on my 2016 concours 14. The stock tires on that bike are criminal to be sure, but these felt better than the tires I put on any of my bikes. Really brings the connie to life. I do a fair amount of riding in poor conditions and the wet handling of this RS3 is great. I've only got 1200 miles so far, but there is no visible wear on them.

Good sport touring tire
Pros:
1)Good grip leaned over, that gives me a lot of confidence compared to the Pirelli Angel GTs. On the Dunlops, once leaned over, the bike wants to to stay leaned ! Holds line well.
2)Does not start sliding in high air temperatures of 45 degrees celsius
3)Very well priced.

Cons:
1)Weighs a lot ! Considerably more than my Pirelli Angel GTs and the Dunlop Q3s
2)Not very cool looking on a sports bike, like my Monster 696.

Great Improvement of Roadsmart 2
Awesome. Replaced my 2's with these on my 01 k1200rs. Much nicer than the roadsmart 2's. So smooth in transition from middle tread to lean/edge...I ride down the street more angled than I do straight up and down ha! Give these a shot, you won't regret it. Don't have a lot of super wet experience yet, been lucky avoiding storms, just super hot/humid Chicago.

RS III is a good tire
2016 R1200RT. The RS is a good solid performer. However, I really don't believe it outshines the competition by a large amount. I've run Metzlers, and Michellin previously and the Dunlops really didn't make a huge difference in my opinion. In fact, I'm a bit disappointed in the RS front tire performance. Just turned 8K and the front tire is pretty bad case of cupping. The rear tire is hanging in there a bit better. I'll probably change then out in another 1K. That said, I'm not dissatisfied with 9K on a set of motorcycle tires, but based on the Dunlop promotion of this tire I expected a bit more.

Dan M on Sep 21, 2017
These set of tires was purchased because...1) Quality: They are the Dunlop's state of the art latest manufacturing in my riding style range. The Roadsmart 2 got a very good rating among the biking family. 2) Durability: When a company publishes that a tire could last 10,000 miles (rear) and 20,000 (front), I am interested in finding out of it is true. 3) Price: When compared to other brands, the Dunlop set came up number one in accessibility, having all the features it claims to have.

Get more miles out of these tires than Metzelers or Michelins
Kurt E on Aug 27, 2017
The reason I chose the Dunlop RSIII was the possibility of a longer tread life and priced lower than the Michelin's. If these are even close to the ride and performance of the Pilot4's I have on my Hayabusa I'll be impressed. The Revzilla tv product video's and having it shipped promptly is once again a deal breaker. These tire's will be mounted on a 2013 Kawasaki Concours....
Mike778 on Aug 20, 2017
Competitive tire to Michelin Pilot Road 4 at a lower price with promise of higher mileage. Also my RevZilla bucks reducing the cost slightly.
Stephan B on Aug 18, 2017
I have had good luck with Dunlop tires in dry conditions. I feel they are very stable and boost confidence when used on my Sport Touring Bike. I have not ran the road smart 3 before but have used the road smart 2 and Q2 as well as some older dunlop moles
Mitchell R on Aug 9, 2017
I've been very happy with Roadsmart 2's on my FJR. Turn in is faster, and the fronts wear better than Pilot 4's. If the Roadsmart 3's are even better wearing as they say, I'll be happy.

My Yamaha FJ-09 has Dunlop's as an OEM tire. The rear wore out faster than the front, so I thought I'd stay with the Dunlop brand until I change both tires. This new rear tire has worked extremely well for my type of riding.
