Dainese MIG Jacket
Summer weather performance, full grain leather protection. A textile-leather hybrid has never been executed quite so seamlessly as the Dainese MIG Jacket. Massive mesh fabric panels span the entire torso front and back for airflow that rivals dedicated mesh jackets. Washable grid leather reinforcements on the forearms, elbows and shoulders provide maximum abrasion resistance. Fusing the two together, the Cordura chassis incorporates microelastic inserts for an aggressive yet flexible fit and accepts G1 and G2 back protectors as well as Dainese double chest protectors. Composite elbow and shoulder armor comes standard, as do black aluminum shoulder inserts, making the Dainese MIG Jacket every bit as sporty as many full leather jackets without the heavy weight or sweltering feel in the summer heat.
- Composite protectors certified to EN 1621.1 Standard
- Shoulder with aluminum insert
- Removable protectors certified to EN 1621.1 Standard
- Pocket for optional G1 and G2 back protector (sold separately)

Reviews & Questions
I rated this overall at 4 stars, but it was a mixed bag as half of the categories were rated 5 stars for me. I will breakdown my version of this jacket as follows:
Bang for the buck--4 stars. This coat being mostly mesh and carry a price tag of $450 dollars is steep! However I live in Arizona and place a high value on breathability because 6 months out of the year I'm riding in temps above 80 degrees. And this jacket has protective leather in the arms, excellent and well fitting armor along with a wind proof liner. I took it out this morning and it was 62 degrees, I had the liner in place and nothing but an Under Armor Cold Gear long sleeve shirt. I was perfectly comfortable! I expected to be chilly, but I wasn't at all. If I were to put on another layer I could easily take this jacket into the 40's temps I would imagine. I did decide to remove the liner and stow it away for a portion of the ride to check breathability, and quickly froze my fanny off. This coat will move some air when that tiny liner is removed. And stowing it away was easy, it's tiny and light. In short, I'd say this coat is versatile enough to cover temps from 45-95 degrees.
The protection seems to be pretty good for a mesh jacket, but it's still a mesh jacket, so I gave it 4 stars. It's an extremely light jacket, and that's what I wanted. I already have a Dainese Avro D1 leather perf jacket for the track and colder temps, but I see this Mig taking front stage for my canyon and street riding because it's so incredibly light. The leather sleeves and armor are perfect for street riding. The material, this Cordura Comfort does have a bit of stretch to it, and seems pretty durable in the event of an off.
Features--4 stars. If the liner had a small pocket, it would have been a 5 star rating. But short of that, this jacket has the mandarin collar, liner, leather and aluminum shoulder sliders and good adjustability on the waist. It's as close to 5 stars as I can give. The Dainese zippers always give me pause though....they are dainty like a woman's dress, yet seem to hold up on my other coats so I will give them a pass.
Comfort--5 stars. Extremely light! I want something I can move around on. I typically ride with a good amount of enthusiasm and need something that is not binding. In fact that was my primary reason for getting another coat in the first place. My leather Dainese Avro is heavy and binding and has no stretch. This Mig will move with you. The ONLY grip I have, is there is no stretch panels behind the shoulders. Strangely enough I wasn't compromised in movement. If I felt like this coat was hindering my movement, I would have returned it, but before I took it out of the house I could tell it wasn't restrictive. The mandarin collar allows for easy head checks and since it's a short waisted coat, there is no bunching. In addition the cuffs are easy to work with my Held Short Race gloves, there is no button at the end of the sleeves, just a zipper, and no forearm adjustment.
Style--5 stars. This jacket is sick looking. Seriously. I went with the murdered out black and the video does it justice. You can tell by Anthony's enthusiasm and high praise it's a good looking piece. I definitely looks the part!
Fit--5 stars. I'm about 5.9 and 175 lbs with an athletic build. I have a 42 inch chest, 32 inch waist, 16 inch arms and went with a size 50. I like my jackets snug, and that's why having some stretch to the material is critical. I had to order the new Dainese G back protector to slide in there, and this review is without that inserted. I doubt that it will alter the fitment though, and I don't plan on doing the chest protectors.
Overall, I do recommend this jacket. It has a good mix of comfort, style, protection and breathability I want out of a mesh jacket.
It was a toss up between this and Super Rider, but I can't be sporting a speed hump, and the Mugello Fabric on that coat has a strange black color to it, so I went with the MIG and I'm glad I did.

My initial thoughts on purchasing this were so torn between getting the all black and the black/red jacket. Both looked cool but I went with the black/red to compliment my bike. I ride a DRZ400SM so not a "typical" attire option. My thought process sold me on this from a previous review where the writer said he rides with a good amount of "enthusiasm" which I do as well. This jacket like Anthony says in the review moves INCREDIBLY well in an upright position.
This jacket has the perfect amount of movement in it. the wind liner does a good job while riding in 50 degree California mornings but be prepared to be a bit chilly for obvious reasons. Take out the wind liner and this jacket moves air like a jet turbine! I will be moving back to the East Coast in a couple months and am eager to try this out in humid heat instead of dry.
As for the fit of the jacket, if you are thinking of going smaller I would advise against it. The main reason is, that the adjustable back straps have a ton of play and I cinched it down pretty good so it would accommodate my backpack a bit easier. So bottom line, fit is spot on but do not size down if you are on the fence.
I am still waiting on getting the new Dainese Pro Armor G back protector to put in my jacket, and I know that it will fit great with it in and not compromise air flow. This goes without saying if you have seen the video for it.
Closing thoughts: If you are on the fence about buying this jacket...DON'T! This jacket is badass l, comfortable and will keep you cool. Stay safe out there and enjoy the road!
I am new to the European cut/style market, but this is a very attractive piece of gear.
High airflow throughout the front/back of the jacket. The sleeves do not have any mesh so the airflow in those areas is minimum. If you unzip the sleeve opening you can get more airflow.
I come from an all leather jacket, this thing is a blessing in terms of weight. I might hang up my leather jacket for good.
Everything seems to be put together well, the seams and stitching throughout the jacket appear to be durable. The one gripe I have with the jacket are the damn zippers, this seems to be a common theme with Dainese, but I feel like with enough time the zippers may break.
I bought the Mantas back protector because the impact zones on your back are primarily mesh. I had a hard time getting the back protector in place, it does fit but it takes a bit of work to get it positioned properly. If they had allowed the zipper on the back to extend and inch or two further it would have been so easy.

Great air flow, great features, sharp style.
Question about the Back Protector Slot however. I have a D1 G2 Mantis back protector and it seems to sit very low in the jacket. Not sure if there is a special way to insert the protector or not. If anyone has had the same issue or a solution, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm 5'6, 170lbs, and wear a 52 fully zipped with a Pro Armor back piece. The fit is comfortable, relaxed, but if I wanted a firm tight fit, I would get a 50.
It takes a little while before the jacket is broken in, but once it is you are good. If you wash it, be sure to wash in cold water, and air dry!!
1) Mandarin Collar - I love the fact that I can move my head around and not be choking.
2) Arm Zippers - It zips up nice and tight. I love that it sits in the jacket, and doesn't have buttons like the Dainese Super Speed Textile Jacket!
3) You can wear this for cold weather riding, so long you bundle up appropriately.
1) I would consider this a personal annoyance rather than an issue. The back area where you slide in the back protector, it does not sit right on your back. It slides down a bit, but it still works.
Aside from that, its a great jacket if you're not looking to get a full leather jacket, or spend 500+
What a badass jacket, From the moment i tried it on it was the perfect fit. 5'11" 185lbs size 52. i got it in all black and it looks very stealthy (batman) like. love the black sliders and the leather panels. I tested this jacket on a 5 hour 90 degree weather ride and it was awesome! It moves a TON of air with the liner removed. my core stayed very cool and confortable i would even forget i was wearing it.
i think the only things that i could complain about would be the collar around your neck it is a bit stiff and can dig into your neck up front. i was only wearing a t-shirt underneath, but the jacket was also brand new so i just unzipped it about 1/2" and that made it much more tolerable. The only other thing that i found weird since this was my first and Dainese jacket was that the inside pocket where i usually keep my wallet is HUGE. I guess its because those pockets are designed to carry your chest protector.
i havent tested the protection or durability yet and i hope i dont have to for a long long time lol this is my new favorite Jacket. Thanks Dainese
I order the 54 as I’m a 43/44 and it was just a little tight got the 56 and I was Home free
