AltRider Crash Bars

These premium crash bars, drawn from 1 inch stainless steel tubing, protect your engine casing and plastics from the wrath of the pavement. The AltRider Crash Bars are designed for the impact load to be transferred to the frame, not the hardware. Unlike steel powder coated products, the AltRider stainless crash bars won't ever rust, even after they are scratched. Installation is easy since the bars bolt on quickly using existing mounts. These crash bars match seamlessly with the AltRider aluminum skid plate for the ultimate protection combination.

Features:

  • Bolts directly to the frame with no modifications needed
  • Precision fit with 5 axis laser coping
  • Hand TIG welded for extra strength
  • 1 inch quality stainless construction resists rust and corrosion
  • Stainless steel hardware included for installation

Seems to be a sturdy product - issues with powder coating
The bars appear to be very sturdy and well made, and they look great on the bike. Installation wasn't too hard, but getting some of the lower bolts to line up was a bit of a challenge. For bars that were almost $400 they could've included a tiny tube of loc-tite. Also, I had to go buy a special T50 adapter because the standard socket that came with my T50 bit was too wide. This is spelled out in the instructions, but again, for a pricey set of bars, they could have thrown in (or slightly increase price of product) a 4$ T50 bit with a 3/8" fitment and a 6" adapter (which is what I ended up buying).

My biggest gripe (and the reason for the 2 stars) is because there were three places on the bars where the powder coating had been scraped off. Two of those places look like the powder coating didn't apply correctly and the other place, which was almost as big as a quarter, look like it had been scraped off through mishandling. I don't know if they came from AltRider this way, or if the damage occured at RevZilla.

My first reaction was to send the bars back, but shipping and waiting time (and not knowing whether the new bars would be any better) caused me to keep these ones. Also, I know they will likely get scraped up on their own with time -- but again, at this price, they should arrive in A-1 shape -- any scrapes should be ones I put on there, not ones that come from mishandling or errors in the painting process.
