SPX Air Carbon Gloves
CONS: Alpinestars (bless their little hearts) made the fingers of the gloves breathable mesh which feels great, but if you don't have your own race team to strap them up for you the fingers become frayed from the velcro. On longer rides the sliders on the fingers press up against your skin causing you to ride like a madman because you need to get them off immediately.
PROS: I love the features these gloves have for the price, the sliders and build quality are an awesome upgrade from my SMX Air gloves. I use them on a daily basis.
NOTE: Initially the gloves were tight out of the box as is the case with most Alpinestars gloves. They begin to break in after a few longish rides.

nice glove but very snug fit
LISTEN TO ANTHONY ON THE SIZE OF THIS GLOVE, I originally ordered a large got them and had to send them back and get XL, my fingers aren't pudgy by any means but these gloves were extremely tight in the knuckles on my fingers, rode 200 miles with them thought they would break in and my hands were red and throbbing after about 100 miles, at 200 they were purple and red, and had indents on my knuckles,I had to get them wet shove plastic bags in them all the way up into the fingers and let them dry with the bags in them, then I rubbed them with saddle soap and dr martens dubbin wax, and they have loosened up dramatically, rode in them 150 miles and great fit now, once they break in and mold to my hands they should be great

Fits like a . . .
I am primarily an urban commuter and weekend enthusiast and was looking for a glove that offererd protection and but was not a full on gauntlet.
I originally purchased the size (M) following the video suggestion. Out of the box the gloves were very snug. I had slight difficulty pulling them on but thought that perhaps that was part of the intended design and would relax after use. The finger length on the glove was great they went down to the web of my hands and did not have a lot of extra material at the ends.. So the finger length was right on. But due to the tight fit the knuckle sliders would dig into the tops of my fingers where I really couldn't see trying to ride with them for any period of time. It was like having a ten pound toddler in cowboy boots step on my hands every time I tried to curve my hands. So back in the box they went and Revzilla did a great job with the exchange. I got a size (L) and thought I had found the happy grounds. I would say after a season of riding here are my observations: 1) There is a bunching issue in the palm of the glove right on the first pad of your hand right behind the first knuckle bend (possibly this is a sizing issue but--see above) 2) Yes, the velcro does catch the synthetic areas and pulls them so it looks like you have just been petting a hairy dog. (minor issue but a reality). Overall I appreciate the protective features on the glove hope they address these issues on what is a pretty descent low-mid range glove

Great upgrade
Purchased a pair of AGV Sport Mercury gloves about a month back they served their purpose and it was time to pick out a pair of real gloves. I tried them on they were very tight brand new but comfortable so I paid for them and went used them for the rest of the day and they have already started to break in and feel great. Ok now for the features and why I chose Alpinestars even though I have tried to avoid jumping on the Alpinestars bandwagon... They offer fantastic protection including the pinky to ring finger bar to prevent your pinky from being yanked back in case of a crash the piece of TPU and carbon fiber protecting your scaphoid bone is just what I was looking for if you value your hands it is a must. It also has a substantially reinforced portion near your ulna and carpal bones in the case that that portion smacks the ground. Conductive finger works great (didn't even know that was a feature). Flows air enough to keep me comfortable in 88-94 degree weather with decent humidity but not so much that I had to turn on the heated grips when the sun went down (Disclaimer: I wear full leathers and I'm not a heavy sweater nor do I mind being sweaty if you are a heavy sweater and live some place hot you might want something with more aggressive airflow). Durability and quality feels miles above the pair of Speed and Strength gloves that I had and immediately sent back and the AGVsport gloves that I used for my first month of riding.

Great new glove from Alpinestars!
I bought these gloves as an upgrade from some old Alpinestars SP-X gloves. I haven't had much ride time with them yet but my first impression is a great new glove by Alpinestars. As Anthony has been saying in the 2016 Alpinestars glove reviews, the sizing has changed. I had a size L SP-X glove which fit nice and tight but I got the same fit out of a new M SPX Air Carbon glove so I would drop a size from the older Alpinestars gloves for the best fit.

If I recall correctly, the price point is similar to the SP-X glove and this glove seems to have much better build quality. I think this will result in better longevity but with a reduction in mesh surface area, it will be a little more uncomfortable in the heat of summer.

My only minor gripe is a little bit of discomfort with the seam on the palmar side of the fifth digit. The extra layer of leather over that finger seems to put a little extra pressure on the seam and creates some friction when flexing the finger.

Crash Tested and Approved
I recently crashed after hitting a deer while wearing a pair of these gloves. They were awesome! I put my hands out in front of me to brace for the fall, hit the ground, slid about 20 feet and rolled over to my back. The gloves hit the pavement right at the heel of my hands, and held enough to not expose my hands to the pavement. I didn't have any bruises. I definitely recommend purchasing a pair and plan on getting another pair soon.

Fit is smaller than size, but breaks in nicely.

My new favorite
I was using joe rocket the alpinestar smx line and decided to try these out. I absolutely love them. Women gloves do not fit me well so I wear a M in mens. I had to get a L with these as they are a little snug. The L fit perfect and gives me great finger mobility. I can wear them all year with no problems. Theres great air flow and my fingers don't freeze off in our right now 40º weather so that's a plus! There is a little extra padding on the outer wrist as well that doesn't come on previous models which I love. Also the pointer finger is textile which allows me to use the phone with my gloves on (Thank you Alpinestar!!!). All in all these gloves are my new favorite! I ditched a pair of gloves that still had some life left in them because I knew I wasn't going to wear them after using these SPX's.

Free-flowing and still offers great hand protection!
I have been using a pair of Alpinestars SP-2 gloves (no issues with them at all) for the past year and was looking for something that would be more comfortable during the summer; the SPX Air Carbon gloves were exactly what I was looking for. With more wrist mobility and the mesh materials keeping my hands cool it's so much more enjoyable to ride in hot weather.

Protective glove, with airflow!
I purchased these gloves in order to protect my hands during the warmer riding months. First thing that I noticed when I put them on was how safe they make me feel. There is a lot of armor and extra leather in the gloves. Consequently, they are not as flexible out of the box as the other gloves I tried. They did require a break in period before they became truly comfortable. Now that they are broken in they are much more comfortable, but I can still feel the hard plastic in the knuckles. I am willing to sacrifice comfort for the added protection. They do flow air through them which is nice on hot days. As long as you are moving you will not be sweating. If you get stopped in traffic they do get a bit hot, but so has every other glove and piece of gear I have owned. I did have to go up to a 2XL in order to find one that fit, normally I wear a large in American gloves. Not the cheapest option, but I think that they will protect my hands well in the event I go down.

Not as good as they were...
I first bought these in August 2016. I ordered them a size up as recommended. The gloves were definitely snug at first, but broke in quickly. They were VERY comfortable, and flowed a ton of air.
I loved the style and design of these gloves. I liked that they were a short cuff glove with the ulna protection pad. I loved the Hi-Viz coloring, the palm slider, the carbon fiber knuckle, the fully captured pinky seam. There are not many options for a short cuff mesh glove with Hi-Viz coloring and this level of protection. They were exactly what I wanted in a glove.
The first pair I received were made in Vietnam, the finish on them was very good, all of the cuts, seams, and stitching were straight and even.
After a season of use (June 2017) one of the seams where the leather palm meets the mesh by the thumb opened up. I contacted Alpinestars and had them replaced under warranty.
While waiting for them to be replaced I ordered another pair of these from Revzilla. I Figured I liked them enough that having a backup set would not be an issue.
The new gloves were manufactured in Indonesia, the fit and finish was nowhere near as nice as the previous pair. If I had not ordered them from somewhere as reputable as Revzilla I would have guessed they were knock-offs. The cuts, seams, and stitching were not as smooth or straight. The fingers were MUCH tighter to the point of making my hands numb after wearing them in the house for about 20 minutes. One of the fingers was twisted making it rather uncomfortable, and the part between the ring finger and pinky on one glove was so far back that it dug in to the webbing between my fingers making it very uncomfortable.
The warranty replacement pair I received directly from Alpinestars was also manufactured in Indonesia and had similar issues of the cuts, seams, and stitching not being as nice as the original set. The fingers do not seem as tight, but quality control is definitely an issue here.
All in all, I am rather disappointing with what these gloves became. What was originally a very nice glove has become mediocre at best. I don't know if there are multiple manufacture sites for these gloves, so I do not know if it was just my bad luck in getting 2 sub-par sets 8 months after the first set, or if these have become another victim of cost cutting.
The original set I had I would rate 4-4.5 stars.
Both replacements I rate a 2-2.5 at best.
My overall rating, I guess is a 3 based on what they were and what they became.
If you have thin hands and win the quality control lottery, you may end up with a very nice set of gloves. But I really cannot in good conscience recommend these gloves any longer.

Awesome gloves. Priced right! ZLA always stands behind their stuff! Love the extra key holder on the back side of the glove. It may not have been intended for that but works perfectly for stashing a key just under the knuckles. Love these gloves but they do run a size smaller than expected. I normally wear XL and had to go with 2XL. Revzilla did the right thing and took the small gloves back since I used the sizing tool from their site. Nice to be confident when buying Motorcycle gear.Ride On!

What are the differences between the Alpinestars SPX Air Carbon and the SMX-2 Air Carbon gloves?
A C on May 3, 2016
BEST ANSWER: just got these yesterday, and can say they offer a lot more protection is the key, they have more padding and are beefed up in every way compared to the smx2 they feel almost as protective as a full gauntlet track glove but being a short cuff glove
Is the Black/Yellow glove Hi-Vis, or Yellow?

BEST ANSWER: Definitely Hi-Vis
How do this gloves compare size-wise to the smx-2 air carbon?
Vladimir R on Mar 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: slightly larger
How much will this glove stretch or break in? They seem sized much tighter than other Alpinestars gloves.
Thomas B on Jun 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I had a hard time getting my hands past the cuff area at first. but the fingers fit perfect. I put them on and worked my hands opened and closed for two days around the house. I also put them on and off a few times a day. I have now used them on about four or five rides and they are still a little snug getting on but so much better then when the first got her. The are very comfortable and I must say the Index finger works grate on my I phone. Hope the helps.
What are the differences between these and the Astars GP air gloves? Coming from the Astars gpx glove. Which I really liked.
