Alpinestars SP-8 v2 Gloves

A formidable street glove with serious track leanings, the Alpinestars SP 8 V2 Gloves are perfect for “enthusiastic” street riding. With pre-curve, external stitching and a fourth finger bridge among other race-bred features, the SP 8 Gloves walk the line between lightweight track gloves and beefed-up sport gloves.

At first glance they may look like track gloves, but once you slide them on, the all-day wearable comfort and touchscreen fingertips betray the intended application of the Alpinestars SP 8 V2 Gloves as highly protective sport gloves for the aggressive street rider.

Just reveived, not crash tested
I just received these and wanted to write an initial review. The quality is exceptional, the finish and thought that went in to these is apparent. I followed the sizing chart and ordered a large and they fit perfect, I was at the high end of the Large scale.

The pointer finger of both gloves works with my iphone, not just the left hand like in the video review. The guantlet easily fits over my jacket sleeve or under, and the velcro holds tight.

I rode twice with them, and air flow is good. Not fantastic, but fine for me.

The protection looks amazing, and for this price, I couldn't find anything else with a better bang for the buck. I will update the review later with any other information!

Tight fit and no wrist protection
This is my first pair of gauntlet gloves, and right out of the box i was extremely impressed with the look and build quality. I put the gloves on to wear around the house to get a feel for them and noticed 2 things. first is that i have about a 1/4 inch of room in the finger tips yet if i ball my fist or grab something the glove gets so tight it cuts the circulation off to my fingers. my hand measured 8.75 so it should be a large and thats what i ordered . i dont think i would want an XL seeing as i already have excess in the fingers. second thing is protection looks beefy but isnt really. the only thing hard on it is the knuckle protector. i would of liked to see something hard around the wrist area. Gonna try and break the gloves in to fit better if that doesnt work ill return them.

Made the SP8's worse, still great entry level.
I was a huge fan of the original SP8's. Mine lasted 3 seasons, 2 novice trackdays and blew a seam during a 40mph lowside when I landed on my palms. Worth the money because my hands were 100% fine.
I found out they now have version 2. Excited, I ordered. I can tell immediately by holding up the Version 1 they made the gauntlet cuff thinner. This is so they can sell you the SP-2's for your track day. Palms have this squishy material for absorbing vibrations, not slides. Hard to find sliders in sub $100 but are WAY better than short cuff gloves. Steer clear of those.
The worst offense is now the seam between ring finger and middle finger DIGS into my skin between the fingers. I've worn them for 5 hours and 2 rides and I don't believe the leather will ever soften there. Maybe if I wet them down and let them dry on my hands.

Anthony says no track days with these gloves. I'll tell you they will pass tech for your novice, instructor lead groups. What you will notice is how the velco is at its limits when fitted over the leather suit sleeves. Not confidence inspiring. Previous version ulna protection was much thicker. They'll do for your first years.

Sizes were the same, XL. 9in palm. No wedding ring. But I wish I could rebuy SP-8 V1. With a street jacket or non-track leather jacket it will be great, will even work for your first track day.

Great Gloves, Great Price
Absolutely no complaints with these gloves. I bought them for warmer use and pairing with an Alpinestar leather jacket and it keeps me pretty warm. Looks pretty good. Best bang for your buck IMO

Good glove
These are my street gloves and occasional track glove for the first session. They offer great airflow and still give you feedback trough the handle bars while providing good protection. Very comfortable glove and you cannot feel any hotspots or stitches when the glove is on. The knuckle protectors need improvement, they are hard and I have no doubt that they will do their job but the material on top of the hard body will chip and fall off if you drop the gloves on the pavement or rub them up on something like the brick side of my house, but I don't mind it. The bridge between the 5th and 4th digit are awesome and I feel good knowing that if I go down I wont break my pinky sideways. I do wish the palm protectors were hard plastic instead of a reinforced foam. stitching is awesome and double stitched in places of high stress. wrist protection and padding is there and will do its job. Other than that I see no faults for what I paid for this glove. Best bang for the buck for a gauntlet that doubles as a track pair.

Buy a size larger than you normally wear, the glove itself fits good but, the wrist opening on mine is small and can be tough to get my sweaty hand through sometimes, that's why I only wear them for my first track session sometimes. I usually wear a medium in cortech, icon, and alpinestar Air gloves. Should have gotten a Large in these.

Great gloves
While it is too early to have ridden in hot weather, the gloves fit great and look great. I am happy with the purchase and would recommend these gloves to others.

Protected my hands
First off I've owned them a few months and I like them.

The fit is slightly small and will feel stiff at first but they loosen up a bit and after a 100 miles or so they'll be nice and broke in and not stiff at all. Back to fit, slightly small across the hand (especially at first) but I wouldn't really step up if you can pull them on and off unless you have to seriously stuff your hand in there and your fingernails are scraping the inside of the fingers.

Now these saved my hands from a quick little low side at about 15-20mph foam palm held up but sadly it hit more between the two foam pieces but material held up and protected my palm. I'd probably trust them going twice as fast (not that I'm going to do that) if they hit foam instead of the thumb sized gap between the pieces

So in short, few months ownership review; little tight and stiff at first, foam palm works well, breathes like a slightly asthmatic child, great looking with decent features for cheap as heck, keeps some rain out.

Great budget racing/street gloves
Great looking gloves. Protection all around looks solid. These are my first pair of gauntlet style race gloves and it feels a bit tight around the knuckles but I believe that's how those type of gloves are. But even though it feels tight, the fingers are a tad long for my small asian hands lol. So weird, but they fit tight but feel big if you get what I mean. Hopefully they get a little looser around the top of my hand as I break them in this Spring/Summer.

NIce gloves, solid value
These gloves are an excellent choice for sport riding. The fit is good, and comfortable overall. I've had a chance to break them in.. and thus far I'm not disappointed. With the gauntlets I can tuck in my leather jacket sleeves with no issue. And it doesn't hurt that they look nice. Based on the design, I feel the protection offered is as good as can be expected for the price / design. Overall, a very solid value.

First glove I could stand to wear.
Bought this glove soley because it was a guantlet and that it fit my thumbs. I have clubbed thumbs (like megan fox) and it's impossible for me to find gloves I like. My fingers are a little too short for these gloves for off the bike use.The touch-tech finger works fine even if your finger does not reach the end of the glove. The ONLY things I hate about these gloves are; The left pinky finger twists when you are gripping the bars, So the stitch sits under my finger. And my biggest gripe of all, the sticky panel in the palm just under the first 2-3 fingers folds up and will pinch you if you don't settle your hand right.

I would reccomend this glove to anyone with short thumbs.

Most of my riding is commuting to work. Recently, my commute has lengthened and now involves mostly highway riding in LA. I have short cuff gloves (Astars SMX-1) and love them for hot weather, but wanted more protection for the freeway. It's a good price point for the amount of protection, especially since I don't plan on any track riding.

Hi there. Could you suggest these gloves for colder weather or is it too breathable?
Giannis D on Feb 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: These gloves are not well vented, they will keep your hands warm to a certain extent. I imagine a glove liner will help, heated grips, hand guards, etc. all can be factored in + wind chill.
If my palm is 9.25 should I get a xl?
A shopper on Aug 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Buy a size smaller, your finger tips will thank you.
