I wanted a street racing shoe not house slipper level protection
I bought these shoes in hopes for a riding shoe that adds protection verse running shoes/cowboy boots, but at the same time still looked casual enough to wear to work on Fridays with jeans. I ended up returning the shoes the next day and upgraded to the Alpinestars SMX 6 Vented Boots.

Pros:
- Style looks decently cool. Probably the main reason I bought them. My friend said they looked like basketball shoes mixed with wrestling shoes. But when riding, I should be more concerned with protection than style. It is, after all, the whole reason to get riding shoes.
- Ankle protection is better than standard running shoes with the high ankle support and slider on the side of the ankle.

Cons:
- The Faster shoe runs very small. I wear a size 11 in Nikes, 10.5 in Ariat boots, and 10 in Cole Haan Wingtips. I got this shoe in 10.5. The overall length of the shoe was about an inch shorter than my size 10 Cole Haans! The shoe makes your foot look very small and girly and doesn't look good in blue jeans as I was hoping (Maybe the white shoes would look better). Kind of cramped. Depending on the shoes you normally wear I would suggest getting 1/2 size to a full size bigger than normal or go with the largest size out of all the shoes you have. In my case I should have gone with the 11...minimum.

- Horrible Protection. Everywhere, except the ankle and heel, feels like there is no protection. Although they look nice, I felt like I slipped my foot into a cheap leather sock. The shoe felt way too flexible, and the leather/padding didn't feel thick or stiff enough around the foot to provide any impact protection. I thought there would be at least decent padding and thicker leather on the toe box where you would shift...not at all. Honestly, my Nike Shox felt like they had thicker leather and more protection than these in the entire foot area. It felt as if I would be shifting pretty much barefoot, and that my left big toe would get bruised from shifting on an hour+ ride. The toe slider is a joke, just a little thin piece of plastic. If you lowsided (which is the lesser violent crash) and your foot got caught under the bike, you'd probably break several toes and bones in your foot.
- Price is a little high for what you get. If I ever decide to get a pair of riding shoes again, these will not be it. I would rather buy the TCX riding "boot" with waterproofing and supposedly better protection for the same price and casual-basketball shoe style.

I returned these A* Faster Shoes the next day to Revzilla. Great customer service for product returns. VERY SIMPLE - just watch the returning process video by Anthony.

Kind of glad the Faster shoes were less than adequate for riding or else I wouldn't have decided to go with boots with more protection.
I ended up buying the new Vented Alpinestars SMX 6 boot which have full CE rated protection, look just as cool as the Faster shoes (only part that sticks out of jeans is below ankle anyways), and I can wear the SMX6s on the track or with leather plants if I decide to do so.

I see no point in buying shoes that can barely replace my Nike Shox and can't take to the track.

If you're thinking about getting these shoes, don't. Spend the extra cash and get some real racing boots with extra protection, that look just as good with jeans over them, and that you can take later to the track so you don't end up wasting $130 on shoes you could have put towards awesome boots you'll eventually want.

Great Shoe
I love these shoes. They protected my foot and ankle in a 40 MPH lowside on I-580 once. However I wouldn't trust these for anything heavy duty, the armor in them is very light, you really do need beefier boots but for light riding around town or short commutes these are awesome. The vented version is great in hot weather. Mine have been holding up over a year with not too much wear. The sole could be thicker but it hasn't worn through yet.

Only problem I have with these boots is that there is pretty much no tread on the bottom which can be fairly slippery.

Great shoe - bad grip on sand or in wet.
So I have had these for roughly 9 months, and I commute with them every few days. I would recommend these, if they had the following improvements.

Modify the laser ablated grip to something that doesn't turn into a slick in 6 months. The Altama combat boots I have are much better at sticking in sand or the wet than these things. I have to do a two-step tango in sand or wet pavement so as to not drop the bike. So, they FAIL THEIR PRIMARY FUNCTION, which means they are a DO NOT BUY. In all other areas they excel. Two walking around in these hurts after a few hours, so I corrected this with a gel heel insert.

If Alpinestars makes these improvements I'll certainly buy another pair, however if the laser ablated grip stays, I'll be shopping for another product.

Absolutely great shoes.
I purchased these to replace a similar paid of different branded shoes that started to fail. They're absolutely fantastic. A little stiff at first, but after your first good ride they will break in and not cause any discomfort.

The protection around the ankle is very solid and reassuring. The cut on these shoes is meant for a more sporty riding position, so they may not be the best cruiser shoes. There isn't a shift box, but the shoe actually has a lot of padding around the toe area so shifting isn't uncomfortable.

They look great, I've received a lot of compliments on them. Fit was spot on for me, I'm between an 11 and a 12 and an 11.5 was absolutely perfect.

Quality is superb, exactly what you would expect from Alpinestars. When these shoes wear out, I would definitely buy another pair.

Great pair of casual riding shoes.
You need to be aware that these shoes are not really meant for track days. These are more of a casual riding shoe that is meant to be worn all day (and I have). If you understand these two issues, and this is the type of shoe you are looking for then you will not be disappointed.

This shoe is amazing. The fit is great and near dead on. For reference, I found it's approximately a 0.5 smaller size than New Balance and 0.5 larger than Reebok. The foot is fairly narrow though, so watch out if you have wide feet.

The look is also very good. When on, and with pants to cover the top portion with the Velcro straps, they look just like a pair of stylish men's boots and I've gotten many compliments on my 'boots' before people found out what they actually are. Additionally, they are very comfortable and they do come with a heel so they can be worn like any other shoe. I have worn these all day with no ill effect, and I sometimes wear them to work. They (the almost all black pair) are also good enough to pass as dress shoe substitutes as I've worn them to the office on numerous occasions.

The shoe secures nicely and stays that way as long as you wrap the laces into the Velcro.

The only real downside to these shoes (and I'm not sure if it's a downside to riding shoes in general) is the lack of any grip on the sole. Though, I've found that it's not really necessary.

Best Motorcycle Shoes
For something that is not an actual boot, these shoes compete very well with boots. They provide a lot of protection with all the built in safety features, while giving you some of the most comfortable shoes you have put your feet in. I would not recommend getting the vented shoes as these get enough air flow in hot temperatures, while being perfect for winter/rain if you don't live in an area that gets too cold. My shoe size normally ranges from 10-10.5 and so I decided to get the 10.5 because it seemed like they run small. At 10.5, the shoe is actually a little big on me, so I would recommend sticking to your actual size. These shoes just make everything feel easier and more natural on the bike, while giving me the confidence you would get by having safe gear on. I actually saved my bike from going down once by kicking out a foot as hard as I can, and managed to barely leave a scratch on these shoes. If you are debating between these and another shoe, the alpinestars are certainly the right choice.

Good style, very comfortable, great price
I have a pair of Sidi Vertigo boots that I feel provide excellent protection. However, they are not comfortable at all to walk in, so I wanted something for more casual riding that gave some protection but that I could walk around in and would look good. These fit the bill.

Pros:
Comfortable
Style
Price

Cons:
Not as much protection as a boot - they are quite flexible
No ventilation - get a little hot
They look a little "plasticy"; sort of too shiney

Water resistant on light rains, but not on heavy rains
These shoes are super nice looking, kinda feels like I'm wearing super expensive high-top Jordans, but better since these offer protection.

I've ridden with these on light rains and my feet stayed dry the entire time. However, when it's raining hard (like a thunderstorm) your feet would get wet, although not completely wet, but you would feel some water seeping through. The grip on these shoes (on the bottom) aren't very grippy when standing on wet asphalt. I would say my foot has slipped a few times when attempting to back up my bike while being on it in a slightly inclined road.

I am a new rider and am educating myself on the gear. The Revzilla "Decide and Ride" has been invaluable. These guys (Anthony) nailed it when they decided to post all the product reviews. This has been an awesome way to shop and decide.
I chose the AS Faster based on the cross functions of riding boot with protection along with the street wear-ability. The Faster appear to provide the protection needed for riding and the comfort for short walking distances. Plus the design color matches my gear.

This is my first riding boot/shoe. Because I have large feet, I need something with reasonably small/low profile toe to keep from catching my foot on the shift lever. For the money, this seems like a good product and they are supposed to be pretty flexible/comfortable for walking in unlike other more robust/stiffer shoes. The review video on Revzilla led me to choose this shoe.

BEST ANSWER: I wear these daily to, from, and at work. ~ 20 min ride to an office job behind a desk. They are great summer shoes to have. The only time I don't wear them is on days below 45*. I have had them for over a year and have absolutely no complaints.
I'm curious as to width. I have a wide foot (EE) and I am wondering if those widths are available or they are just standard width? Thanks.

BEST ANSWER: I also have a wide foot and these seem to only come in one width. With that said, they are a little bit tight at first, but not because they are too narrow. they feel a bit slim in terms of height up front. Once they break in though, they feel amazing.
Are the insoles changeable?

BEST ANSWER: No, but I'm sure you can easily add inserts. Probably would make them a little tight.

why does the sole look so flat? how is the grip compared to say...normal sneakers?

BEST ANSWER: The grip is very good because it is not a smooth flat bottom. It has a certain texture to it from the way the soles are made that give solid traction on any surface that isn't ice or wet metal. They give me a good steady grip on the pavement and great feedback on the pegs and the shifter. I've used them in the rain a few times and they aren't any worse than sneakers in terms of reaction in those conditions. Just be careful putting your foot on road paint if the ground is wet. But that should be common sense for any shoe/boot. Hope that helps!
Hello everyone

I ride a cruiser but prefer the level of protection offered by sport bike gear. My question is would these boots be suitable for highway speeds ( 110km/hr). I know the video states good for around town and city so are they no good beyond 70 km say?

Thanks

BEST ANSWER: I've owned 2 pairs of these shoes and to be honest they are only good for 2-3 months max, if you plan on wearing them on a daily basis the rubber soles wear quickly and the amount of ankle support and protection is not what I would ideally want in a unfortunately event or crash. If you want my honest opinion I would say pay the extra couple dollars and get the Dianese, my buddy had a pair last year and they had a stiffer sole and much more ankle support. That's what I'm doing this year, they have a pair that look very similar to the Astar. Hope this help!
Hi All,

I wear a size 11 Nike (USA), is this about the same size fitment? I'm not sure whether to go with a 10.5 or 11!

Thanks!

BEST ANSWER: If you wear an 11 you may want to go up to a 11.5 these shoes fit kinda slim in the toe area of the shoe which makes for a tighter fit, I would recommend going up a half size. I wear a 12 and I purchased 12.5 and the fit a little tight until I began to wear them more and loosen up around the toe area, also it depends on the type of socks you choose to wear, if they were to big you could always wear a thicker sock. I wear both and they fit fine for me. I hope this helps!
How does the faster shoes compare in level of protection with astars Joey? Seems about the same.

BEST ANSWER: They come up over the ankle and feel like regular tennis shoes but higher. I only wear them around town, usually riding a cafe racer.
