Alpinestars Andes v2 Drystar Pants

Standing on the summit of the original Andes, the Alpinestars Andes V2 Drystar Pants take multi-season functionality to new heights with vastly improved temperature control.

Where venting was previously somewhat limited, affording only exchange of heat and moisture through the Drystar membrane (and restricting application to the colder 3 seasons), highly efficient direct venting has been incorporated into the version 2 Alpinestars Andes Drystar Pants, achieving true 4 season adaptability for the adventure and touring rider.

Note: We have found the Alpinestars Andes v2 Drystar Pants to run small and suggest going up if you are between sizes.

Features:

  • Advanced reinforced poly-fabric textile and Alpinestars exclusive Drystar construction
  • Removable long thermal liner ensures pant comfort on hot or cold days
  • Efficient direct ventilation vents strategically positioned on thighs
  • Pre-contoured leg construction with knee accordion stretch panels
  • Interior hip pad hook-and-loop with padding (Nucleon hip inserts sold separately)
  • Impact protection provided with removable CE-certified knee protectors
  • Reinforced polymer-printed texture in critical knee areas for added abrasion resistance
  • Integrated reflective graphic details and logos improve rider visibility in varying light conditions
  • Adjustment waist system features buckle and stretch material for highly customizable fit
  • Zippered air in-takes to control internal temperature
  • Zippered, waterproof hand pockets, plus cargo-style pockets
  • Adjustable, removable bib braces improve comfort fit

Promising thus far
Disclaimer: I have only tried them on, no riding time.

Pros: Great looking 3 season pant, tailored fit in comparison to similar options, good material, comfortable and very versatile.

Cons: I ordered a size too large do to Nathans misleading review. If you're not in denial about your weight and know how to use a tape measure, then measure around your waste (at the navel) and follow the sizing chart and you'll get a good fit. The video of Andes V1's do a great job at explaining this.

Other than that my pants arrived with animal hair on them. It's important that we all do are part in returning items in better condition than we received them. That being said these pants look really promising and if you're on the fence I say go for it!

Great when you get the right size
Like others have mentioned, make sure you follow the measurement table. This run a lot smaller than typical pant sizes. I wear 38 Levis and got 2XL the first order but they were too small. I could barely button them and tight everwhere but a short crotch. Forget about sitting on a bike. Sent them back and got 3XL and much better fit.

They are a little baggy at the bottom of the legs and the velcro doesn't allow you to close the cuff as tight as I want around my boot but it's pretty minor. A little bulky when walking around off the bike but comfortable on the bike.

I was too warm the first ride with my long underwear on underneath in overcast ~60F weather. Very comfortable with only the included liner at ~60F on my return trip. Haven't had a chance to ride in the heat yet to try to the vents but I wore them in light rain this morning and stayed dry. No wind passed through at all with the vents closed and liner installed.

Come with suspenders so you know they won't start slipping down while riding. The removable hip and knee protection is comfortable and easily bends to your needs or walking.

Overall, they feel like nice solid riding pants for my commuting with a solid set of features for the price.

Funtional overpants
I wear these over my work cloths to keep them from road crud. They work great, and have selective protective padding you can choose to wear or not. I haven't had the chance to try these in our Florida summers, but from rain and wind they are an excellent for riding.

Held up well enough in a lowside crash.
Lowsided on the interstate on the very first night that I wore these. Was going about 60-65mph at the time; legs where the first thing to impact the ground. When I first put these one, I did not believe that the knee pads were in the correct orientation (left to right), but when I went down I realized they were exactly where they needed to be. These pants tore at the high impact areas (knees and hips)m, but luckily there was armor beneath. Ended up with a couple of TINY pieces of roadrash where these pants tore open, however it could have been far, far worse.

Besides crash protection, these pants are rather comfortable and seem like they would be rather perfect for colder weather riding with the thermal liner installed. I only wish I had the chance to wear these more than once!

attention to detail throughout.
I've worn these pants a few the and am very pleased. I am impressed with the quality of workman/womanship from the waist to the boot straps. Love the suspenders; adds to the comfort of not having a tight fit on the waist. The vents allow body heat to dissipate more than cool air to enter, (maybe because my ride is an R1200 RT with full fairing).Thank you Revzilla for getting to me pronto. JB

Great for Varying NorCal Temperatures
I bought these pants months ago and only tried them on. Riding with these bad boys is a blast in the heat or the cold; I've never gotten too hot or too cold in them (temps ranging from 45ºF to 94ºF so far, wind chill included for cold nights). I always stay a lukewarm in them (w/ & wo/ ventilation) no matter the temperature.

- I enjoy the fact I get to (kinda) look like Santa
- They're so comfortable I can wear them all day
- They fit over my boots well (I have Icon Raiden Treadwell Boots)
- Plenty of pockets and adjustability

Not really any gripes for these amazing pants. Well done!

Worth Every Penny
I have had these pants for about 1 month of PNW riding.

Temps: As high as 85 and lows in 40's. I haven't used them with the thermal liner yet and haven't been to hot or cold. The thigh vents do function.

Sizing: I wear 34/32 Levis and needed to return the larges for XL. Waist and length are perfect.

Rain: My 30 mile ride home today took 45 minutes and it was raining very hard. No water made it in. Very impressive.

Very Small Issue: I wish the velcro at the ankle was longer.

Overall: Very happy with the quality, protection and fit.

They run small!
Got mine in the mail today. They are tight in the hips and waist, especially with the liner in. Order larger size, maybe even 2 sizes up if you plan to use the thermal liner. Seriously!

Frustratingly small
2XL too small?! I am usually between XL and 2XL (US pant size 38-40) but these fit like a Medium. I liked the slimmer leg fit and length but the hips and waste were so tight I couldn't even get the snaps close to each other (it was at least 3 inches apart when pulled tight)... really couldn't even start to zip the zipper. Gave it 2 stars because at least the material and features (vents, knee and hip protection, suspenders) seem ok. Was disappointed the main snap was just a button and not a nice slidelock - though there is tab slide/catch and a snap but not a slick as a nice slidelock that seem standard are most other pants these days. Be advised the side pockets are designed to NOT be waterproof - they even have a vent/drain in them - not terrible as there are other waterproof pocket options but worth noting. And while the back does go up acceptably high there is no stretch to them so not sure how getting into a tuck on the bike would be - I'm sure the suspenders (which I dig is an included feature) would be helpful - though again I wasn't able to actually fully get the pants on and zipped so wasn't able to test/verify this. Really wanted these to be THE pants - style and multi-season functionality is on point and what I need but the sizing is so far off... and I'm not blowing another $8 to return ship to 'test' another size. Pitfalls of ordering online and trusting a brand even before any other reviews or videos are up on them...

Is the knee armor adjustable or is it in a fixed position like the previous version?
D'Monti F on Mar 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: They're in a fixed position like the previous version.
No video review yet so quick Q, do the leg vents hold open like the jacket does with the pull string?
Lane M on Feb 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No pull string that I have found yet. Been too cold to try the vents but they feel like they will stay open when riding. Might depend on your riding position and air flow.
Is the velcro closure for the knee pad at the bottom of the pocket or in the middle?
Darren L on Oct 30, 2017
What is this pant made out of and is it really that baggy? Can it be used for sport use?
Stephen B on Jul 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I use it everyday, over my work clothes. Works great!
I wear 30W 32L jeans. Should i go for the medium? I wont be wearing pants underneath.
A C on Sep 9, 2018
I wear waist size 34 in jeans, should I go XL? And does this have a belt loop?
Eddie H on Jun 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I'm a 32/33 in jeans and got the M and they fit perfectly. There are no belt loops but there are integrated suspenders as well as two separate built in belt adjusters on the sides of the pant. I have never used suspenders but can imagine that they will work very well so that I won't have to tighten the pants too much around my waist and can rely on the suspenders to keep them up while riding.
What are these pants made out of?
