Versatile Pants
I like these pants a lot! The removable liner makes these very versatile pants. I've worn them in 80 degree and 40 degree temps and have stayed very comfortable. The knee pads do seem to be low, but once on the bike and in riding position they sit where they need to be. Make sure you order based on waist size measured around your belly button and you won't have any issues with fit.

great european style and rain protection
I wanted a pair of rain proof pants for everyday riding so that I didn't have to stop and change to rain gear in intermittent storms. I was also after pants that fit like pants and aren't baggy like most American adv gear. The Astar Andes fit those criteria very well; they fit great and work very well in the rain. (I did ride with them in the rain) However, the material is a little on the thin side and I have to wonder how well they would hold-up in an off. The material does not breath and can get a bit hot in hot weather riding, I wouldn't recommend them for riding in the desert. The knee guards are not adjustable and sewn-in too low - I had to remove them and I do ride without them. So if knee guards are important to you this should be a consideration. I also want to mention that I tried these pants on in a store before I ordered them online and even though I ordered the same size the fit was different. Over-all the Andes pants fit my needs, they fit well, are great for cold, cool, or stormy weather and they look great. I hope I never have to test their crash protection because I don't think these would be as safe as some other pants you might choose. Especially with the knee guards removed.

Great protection from the elements!
I ride into work at 0300, it's getting very rainy and down into the mid 40s overnight up here in Alaska. My trips to and from work are only about half an hour, but these pants keep me warm and dry in the chilly, heavy downpours. The padding and armor make me feel much safer than when I was wearing snow pants over my jeans. Only change I would make would be the pockets for the knee armor. They've got a small tab of Velcro that holds the bottom end of the pocket closed. I've had the Velcro separate and the armor slide down to the tops of my boots, kinda annoying while riding. But, after moving the armor back in place, I havent had the same problem since.
With the thermal liner in, these pants in XL fit a tad larger than my 34W jeans, not quite 36. They're long in the legs when walking around (compared to my 34L jeans), as riding pants should be. On the bike (13 cb500f), the leg cuffs come up an inch or two from where they rest on my boots.
Overall, I'm loving these pants and am looking forward to putting them to the test as we get closer to winter up here.

Good enough for touring and light off road
You are paying for the brand.

Fit was good in the end. I used the sizing chart and was worried about the waist. I usually wear 34" Jeans and I got the LG. I was worried about them being not wide enough but they worked out pretty well. On trying them on I thought crotch rode up too high, but once I was on the road I did not have any issues.

The good:
- Good quality pants. Did not quite survive a stack, where my boots tore a hole near the legs, but they did a very good job during my 2 weeks in Vietnam
- protection. I tested this out well as I had a few tumbles during my trip and the knee protection was sweet.

The bad:
- not really waterproof. It is somewhat water resistant, but when riding in rain for an hour, I was probably better off putting on some overpants.
- 36 degree heat, 100% humidity, these pants did not quite cut it. I was sweating heaps and the innards start sticking to you given the material. Obviously I removed the warm layer but once the pants start sticking it impacted my riding a little. The air vents on the side are ok, but not really helpful while riding sitting down, they only really air out when you stand up while riding.

Was it what I expected? Not really, kind of hoped for better. But having said that they stood up to 2 weeks of hard knocks on a trip in Vietnam.

I got the white and black. Probably would just stick to black if i had a second chance, I am washing my gear now and I don't think the lighter colours can stand up to the dirt of south east asia.

Great Pant
I bought these pants, with the jacket, to be used when the temperature starts to drop, so that I continue riding well into 20F weather. I have not been disappointed. Even at highway speeds, my legs stay warm and I am able to continue riding without having to stop and warm up.
The pant does run a little small as many have said. Based on the sizing chart, I was at the upper range of the small, so I bought a medium (short). The medium (short) fit me perfectly, though it does run a little high in the groin.
Overall, I am very impressed with these pants and think that the quality of the product at the price point can't be beat.

Great protection and bang for your buck, not for warm weather
I'm a new rider (6mos) based in SoCal near San Diego. I've worn these pants since January, mainly for street touring with a bit of Anza Borrego desert work (hello sand!). I am 5'10" and 170lbs with 32in waist and 30in inseam. I prefer slim (European cut) clothes. I find that these pants fit perfectly when seated on the bike. When standing the crotch is a little tight and the knee pads are too low. With the liners out can be used comfortably as an overpant (jeans, chinos, shorts). I've never worn these with the liners but I imagine they would be plenty warm. I feel that the pants offer good protection against abrasion. The thigh pockets are well placed and large enough for essentials. The velcro hem closure is adjustable enough over my Alpinestars Scout boots. I plan on upgrading the hip "pads" from the thin foam to proper CE2 rated protection.

The only trade-off for the secure feeling and fit of these pants is the ventilation. There are zipper openings (with mesh behind) at each quad muscle location. They work, but there just isn't enough openings to get air moving through. It's not a problem during the spring, cool mornings or in the mountains. Anywhere from 12-30deg and low humidity is fine. I wore these in the desert (~35deg with sun) and on a trip around Okinawa (~30deg and 80%RH) and I sweat my nads off. As the temps increase I'll be looking for another option.

Great for the price
Great all around pants, liner is easily removable and side air vents allow plenty of air flow in when needed. Highly recommended pants for the beginner or rider who needs a pair of solid pants for under the 250$ price range.
Not only that but the pants look wicked with the rest of my gear.

Great quality for the money
I am always apprehensive about a product that claims being 100% waterproof but after several 45 minute rides in fairly heavy rains I can state these riding pants live up to that claim. They quality of materials and assembly lives up to the Alpinestars name which at the price is a very good deal. I ride with them everyday and they show no signs of wear. As far as fit they do fit a little small both in length and waist size especially when jeans/pants are worn underneath. The padding though does position itself in the correct location when you are on the bike.

Good entry level pant
Very well made and comfortable. If you plan on using as an overpant, definitely order a size or two above the measuring guide's suggestion. Otherwise, they fit perfect, like a pair of normal pants. Keeps the water out very well.

2xl is what the chart said should fit. My pants are either 36 or 38 waist 36 long. But I couldn't even button the 2xl. I like the jacket fit so I figured I would try the pants one more time and I'll try the 4xl hoping they are not overly big and maybe they will even fit over my work close. Just with the high viz was available in 4xl.

Whats the length difference between the Normal and the Short version?
DINESH P on Dec 3, 2014
BEST ANSWER: the short version is about 2" shorter. I have a fairly short inseam (28 in jeans) and the short version fit me just right.
I'm looking to buy the Alpinestars Andes Drystar Pants. What is the difference between the Medium size and Medium (short) size? -Jo
A shopper on Dec 4, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I am unable to provide any information on this. This question would be better addressed to the Revzilla staff.
You have sizes in short, do you have a size chart for this also?
Ian G on Dec 6, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I cannot get a pair to get over my hips, I am 5'10", 34 w, 32 in seam , have tried M and LG , no good, I gave up, switched brand waiting for Klim to try on
What is the length for the Alpinestars Andes pants size 2XL in SHORT length? I have a 31" inseam, should I go with the Short or Regular length? I would prefer that the knee protectors are in the correct position when sitting on the bike.
CGDl on Nov 24, 2014
BEST ANSWER: No idea about short or regular.

One nit about these after owning them for over a year is that the velcro opening of the pocket for the armor is at the bottom of the leg, not the top. Over time the pieces of armor work slowly past the velcro and end up if front of my ankle. It is easy to slide them back up and re-fasten the velcro occasionally, but designing the opening at the bottom of the pocket was not the best idea.
Is thins pants can be wearing above my original pants/jeans or I need to put them off and then wearing the Andes?
Didi H on Oct 3, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Would you recommend getting a larger size if these are going to be used as an overpant?
Hi there, I am a size 46" US and wanted to know if I would fit into the 4xl. on paper it says yes but after reading the reviews I am now not sure?
A shopper on Feb 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: When I buy Levi's I go for size 33-34/30. I ordered size 34/30 of these pants. The fit was perfect.
Will this pant 'connect' to the Alpinestars CapeTown jacket?
A shopper on Sep 3, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes it is
How is getting boots on do they come with velcro and zip or just velcro at base of legs ?
A shopper on Apr 20, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The pant leg bottoms are plenty wide enough to accommodate boots when the Velcro is unhooked. Once the boots are on, the pant leg bottoms can be snugged over the boot using the Velcro fasteners. The pant leg bottoms do not have zippers.

BTW, I like the pants. My only complaint is that the Velcro closure at the bottom on the knee armor pockets is flimsy and the armor can slide out of the pockets. I check to make sure the knee armor is properly positioned before I put on the pants and check it again once they’re on. Once the pants are on the armor stays put, but I’ve yet to test it in a crash.
Does this pant have a shin protector? Or does it come with only a knee protector?
A shopper on Sep 3, 2013
BEST ANSWER: The Andes pants don't come with a Shin guard or protector. There is only a knee protector (a basic one) which is part of the purchase.
Hi All,

I'm 5' 10" tall and usually wear a 38-40" waist and 30-31" inside leg. Having read the fitting issues some people are having I was wondering what size would fit the best?

I'm not planning on using these as overpants, but directly and then get changed when I get to work.

Bare in mind I'm from Australia so returning the pants is a costly effort, so getting the right size first time is crucial.

Thanks for your help
A shopper on May 8, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I personally wish I would have ordered it a size smaller in the length as the knee pads are not adjustable and sit about an inch below my knee wile sitting so the pad presses against my crash bars sadly my recommendation would be to go a size down in length hope that helps!
