  • Removable nose guard and wind protector
  • Reversible crown pad features a double face use that allows the rider to select the preferred feel and climate: warmer side with Shalimar fabric for a soft and gentle touch and a cooler side with Ritmo fabric

Beautiful design, incredibly light, bad chin strap position
The quick summary for those that don't want to read a novel:

1) Beautiful styling
2) Light - and I mean LIGHT...
3) Comfortable fit on the head
4) Well-built, actuation and quality seem top notch
5) Chin strap position choked me until I tapped out...
6) Really disappointed - it's a great helmet and I really wanted to love it. I gave it a 4 because I think the helmet is great... but the fit of the chin strap is a complaint others have made, so it's not just me... otherwise a 5 star keeper.

As some other reviewers have said, "I REALLY wanted to love and use this helmet..." But, I have to be honest, the positioning of the chin strap was a persistent pressure on my throat / larynx. But, I'll get back to that... let's start with the good... because this helmet could work for you, even if it didn't work for me.

I've had a lot of helmets, including AGV's in the past. It's hard to beat the Italian styling - but after cycling through many different helmets, I settled on my staple, the Shoei RF-1200. It fits me well, is sorta quiet, very safe, not over the top expensive... and heavy. On a long trip, the RF-1200 is fine - I don't mind the weight really. But, for around town, I get REALLY tired of taking off my helmet at every stop, so I thought a modular helmet would work. (FYI - this big idiot, me, actually walked into my bank one day with my helmet on... I was taking it off as I walked in, which probably saved me from a "tazer" experience...) Anyway, this is why I wanted a modular helmet.

Modular helmets - and in my opinion, especially the Schuberth models, are bulky, unattractive, and heavy. So, the AGV SportModular seemed like a good option, even with the $750 price tag (I bought the white version). It is LIGHT... it was light in the box. Really light. if that's important to you - this may be your helmet. It's lighter than my RF-1200 and by a lot - noticeably.

The helmet - again in my opinion, is beautiful. Really nice lines and a great looking piece of kit. And, in person, it was just a nice looking. Relative to my RF-1200, the large AGV was a bit wider, but not objectionable in any way. The fit on my head was very comfortable - more so than my Shoei and previous AGV helmets.

The view-port with or without the visor is tall enough, and probably wide enough... but I really noticed the chin bar and sides of the helmet in my peripheral vision. It was noticeable enough to me that I kept putting my Shoei on to see if I could see the same. Honestly, it's in the Shoei RF-1200 also, but for some reason it seemed less noticeable. I think it has to do with the slightly wider helmet making it far enough away from the eye that it stands out more. When flipping up the visor, I did notice the locking mechanism at the top of my view... don't care... did not bother me at all.

The mechanism for opening up the visor (lock) was easy for me to actuate, even with a gloved hand. The chin-bar mechanism was GREAT to open... very easy... just reach up and actuate the lever and flip it open. It snicks snugly into place without issue. It comes down just as easily - although I had to adjust my hand position as it wouldn't lock into position with my finger on the lever (duh... stupid, stupid)... but, with that change, the helmet locks down great.

Accessing the vents was no problem, and the interior visor moves up and down easily with the left-side mounted actuator. I will say that when the helmet arrived, the internal visor was loose and I had to reinstall it. It was easy and worked fine, but I noticed that it wasn't the best part of the helmet. For me, I don't ever use them - I wear sunglasses under the visor, and often even under a dark smoke visor (sun sensitive eyes). So, I might have taken the interior visor out entirely.

As soon as I put the helmet on and fastened the chin strap, I started to get nervous. On close inspection, I think that the interior attachment points for the chin strap are too far to the rear of the helmet by just a couple of millimeters or possibly they need to be rotated slightly forward so that the strap doesn't emerge straight down. Regardless, I wore the helmet around for hours and loved everything about it, except for the chin strap. I loosened it up to a point that would probably not be very safe and it still rested against my larynx. In a riding position, with my chin slightly tucked, it was worse. I know that if it was bothering me around the house or sitting on the motorcycle for a few minutes, that after 7 hours of riding on a long day, I would be cursing it, which is really too bad for such an otherwise great helmet. By the way, I am NOT overweight nor do I have a big neck / throat. 6 feet tall and 170 pounds. It's the helmet.

Is this helmet worth $750?
This is a great top quality helmet and the only question is whether it is worth the $750 price tag. I have about 1500 miles in this AGV, and the baseline for this review is my prior helmet, a Schuberth S2 which I used for over 25,000 miles.

The S2 is also a high quality helmet, and it is marketed as a very quiet and stable helmet. The first thing I noticed at highway speed is how incredibly stable the AGV is; much less buffeting and effort than I was used to. I can ride comfortably at highway speed with the motorcycle wind screen in the lowest sport bike position (Kawasaki Concours 14). I don’t think this helmet is quiet. My old Icon Airmada is quieter than either of these high-end helmets. I definitely still need earplugs in the AGV. Of course the AGV is extremely light, 4-6 ounces lighter than the S2, and that is why I chose it. Perhaps that makes it less susceptible to wind buffeting. Ventilation is good but not great. There is a spoiler at the back of the AGV that you can open to expose exit vents, but I did not notice any difference with it open or closed. The lining is reversible for cooler/warmer weather, and the difference is noticeable. The AGV visor is awesome; great quality, easy to use, easy to remove, pinlock included, and has 2 locked positions (closed and cracked). The detents are soft, however, and the visor will not stay open above about 40 mph which might annoy some people. The AGV internal sunvisor is good, but not as good as the S2; its mechanism is lower quality, and it comes with a (too) light smoke tint. The shell in a size Large is slightly bigger than the S2, but not bobble-head looking (the AGV shell is smaller than the Icon Airmada. I have a 59.5 cm head and the size Large fits perfectly. The carbon fiber pattern on the shell has one noticable cosmetic flaw, but that does not bother me. I was not in the market for the modular feature, but it works perfectly. It is a nice option to have and it allows for a very snug fit around the neck roll. As mentioned in other reviews, the neck strap is positioned noticeably father back and closer to the throat, but it is not uncomfortable for me so long as I don’t cinch it very tight.

Any helmet is going to have some quirks and imperfections. In my opinion the weight, shell design, and modular design are what make this AGV better than any other touring helmet on the market. But is it worth $750? It is for me!

I want to love this helmet...
The light factor is the attraction, along with the style. I attached a slim pack talk and that required velcro to the bottom of the back pad. I think my love for the slim pack talk and how loud this helmet is are the only big downsides for me. The padding does easily come loose over time, but I am careful when putting the helmet on/off and this seems to help. Field of vision and modular capability is the best. Airflow is decent, with easy to use vents.

Absolutely devastated that I have to return this beautiful piece of junk
I really, REALLY wanted to like and keep this helmet, but some pretty glaring issues are just too hard to overlook on a $750 lid.

First of all, this IS the lightest modular helmet available. It also happens to easily be the best looking modular helmet on the market. That's why its so heartbreaking to have to return.

First of all, the chin (throat) strap isn't great, but it's not as bad as I was expecting it to be. It is far back, but as long as I didn't tighten it too much it didn't both me, your mileage may vary.

Where my main issues come in is the visor and the neck roll. The visor has to be the worst designed thing to ever grace a helmet. When its all the way down, it locks in, and you have to press in a small, awkward button while pulling it up to release it. This thing is hard enough to find let alone operate with gloves on.

The next issue with the visor is that aforementioned locking mechanism means there's a plastic latch that hangs down directly into your line of sight. The visor doesn't open tall enough, so you'll never not see the latch. It's very distracting and feels like someones dangling a carrot in front of my face or something.

You can unscrew and remove the latch, which I did immediately, but then you completely lose the smallest open visor position because the latch keeps it open when up against the locking mechanism. Seriously? Why wouldn't that just be built into the same main mechanism as the rest of the detents are, rather than relying on this stupid lock or keep it propped open? Without that horrible latch installed, there's just no way to crack the visor open just a little bit, which is how I usually ride. Venting is pretty good, so if you don't live in a hot climate like I do you might not care as much about being able to crack open the visor.

The next big issue is the neck roll, and I'm not sure if this is a QC issue but there are plenty of reports confirming my problem. Each and every time you take the helmet off or on, the back of the neck roll is pulled out of the shell. It comes out so easily, that just tugging on the chin straps to widen the shell a little bit pops it right out. It's just not held in securely by the 2 small plastic rings that clip into the shell, and makes the whole thing feel remarkably cheap and shoddy, and is frankly unacceptable on a helmet this expensive. I get that compromises must be made in order to keep weight down but there's really no excuse for this. Seems like it could easily be fixed with a better molded plastic connection point on the neck roll.

Would I recommend this helmet? No I would not. It ticked all the boxes I desperately needed and was willing to pay extra for, but the poorly designed visor and the remarkably cheap and annoying liner issues completely ruin it for me. Perhaps the next iteration of this helmet will fix these faults, and I'll reconsider it then.

Beautiful helmet - horrible buckle system
The specifications, quality, light weight and decent reviews drew me to this helmet.
Out of the box I was real excited about this helmet, but when I put it on and strapped it to by head things changed. The straps were tight and made contact back below my jaw and pressed tightly on my neck. I tried desperately to move the strap and readjust the position so I could keep the helmet - no luck. After wearing it for about 10 minutes it was a huge relief to unbuckle and remove it from my head. I cant imagine riding in this helmet. It is more sport oriented and perhaps I am not used to that type of fit.

My current Shoei Neotec fits perfectly, but compared to the AGV it is heavy and I really wanted to get a light weight helmet. Also tried the Klim Carbon fiber helmet, but for me the fit wasn't quite right. I had no choice but to return the AGV and order the Shoei Neotec 2, hope it fits as well as my current (aging) Sheoi Neotec.

Wanted to like it
I was very excited about this helmet and have wanted to try a modular. My current helmet is the AGV K5S and I quite like it, it's features, field of vision and light weight. Basically, I was hoping the Carbon modular was going to be the same helmet in modular.

Unfortunately, I'm also in the group of people that found the chin strap uncomfortable and sent it back. I'd love to be able to comment on how it performed on the bike, but after trying it on, it didn't take long to realize this wasn't something I was going to like. Thankfully Revzilla is great about taking things back and it only cost me 7 bucks to try it and send it back.

Would be great to know if they change the strap placement in the future. If so, I'd be a buyer in a second.

After break-in, this is a great helmet
I was unsure at first after trying on this helmet. While it was super light, the chinbar was awfully close to my face and the pads pressed on my jaw to the point of pain. I decided to wear it around the house and break it in for a bit to be sure. I'm glad I did. The padding compressed just enough that I am completely comfortable in this helmet now. It really is unbelievable how light it is. After some research online, I decided my chin being so close to the chinbar wasn't the end of the world and I'm getting used to it. I would definitely recommend this helmet to someone wanting to spend a little extra cash on something really nice.

Not a modular fan but, this helmet is awesome
I am not a modular fan and nothing on the market until now has peaked my interest. This sport modular is on another level. The weight is unheard of for most full face helmet let alone a modular! The carbon chin bar is a first of its kind and it kicks ass. The look is a milder pista which i love. Super comfortable and the double sided crown pad is a WIN! Overall anyone looking for an awesome looking, super light, super safe helmet regardless of modular or not needs to check this helmet out. 5 stars for sure!!

Very Impressive modular
After trying a few different modular helmets. I was really impressed with the weight of the helmet, it was almost as if not wearing a helmet when you combine that aspect with field of vision the helmet offers. The attention to detail on the interior was very impressive as well, quality materials make the helmet feel amazingly comfortable while riding, having the reversible crown pad was a HUGE!!! plus for me as i ride in many different climates sometimes hot and sometimes cold. To top it all off the helmet (for being a modular) is absolutely beautiful, considering most modular helmets look big and cumbersome. I've had a few friends of mine not even realize it was a modular until i opened the the front of the helmet. I am over all very satisfied with the helmet and would recommend it to anyone looking for a modular helmet.
