It was highly recommended on the video as a high quality entry-level dual-sport helmet.
Aidan B on Jun 24, 2017
I was looking for an entry-level dual sport helmet. Pros: good optics, ability to wear goggles with shield down, removable peak, ear cavity for comm units, good venting, closable vents, and good price.
Judy A on Jun 13, 2017
I wanted to look like "Master Chief" not "Master Chef"

Good reviews and the price was right, it is a great entry level helmet. A bit noisy at highway speeds, but overall a great buy!

Great value. Very good for on and off road. Good until you go over 70 then the noise become an issue. Left mine overseas and looking to buy a second one here.
Omar K on May 6, 2016
My first foray into a dual sport helmet. I've used a dirt helmets with goggles in the past. In the reviews I found very few complaints of fogging (which was one of my main concerns).
Wes M on Feb 2, 2016
Price and quality. needed a bigger size too
Victor L on Jan 26, 2016
Your great video comparisons of helmets made me choose the FX-39. Thanks also for the helmet sizing hints.

Inexpensive spare DS helmet
Seth G. on Nov 15, 2015
Great helmet for dual sport riders. Don buy if you spend most of your time on the highway. This is a 50/50 helmet.
brian s on Sep 27, 2015
Overall value was very high. Cost is very low compared to other helmets in 3XL (I know, thick skull). I already took a dive off my KTM 690R and went face first into some large rocks. First thing to cross my mind as I picked myself up was "D__n glad I was wearing a helmet". I can buy 2 more of these for the price of the next costlier helmet.
G S on Sep 21, 2015
fits my application of street and dirt use, a little loud but other than that great helemt

Michael C on Aug 2, 2015
It's the one my pal Cody owns and also it was the least expensive dual sport helmet on hand.
Arturo A on Jul 9, 2015
seemed a good value - hesitant to spend much on a helmet without being able to try it on. Heard your company was good to work with and selection is good
Eric W on Jul 7, 2015

Nick C on May 21, 2015
Based on the video and helmet info. Best bang for my buck and I can buy additional items for my bike with this one than with the Aria or Shoei. I have a Shoei for the street and love it, but with the large wind screen on the GS I'd rather have the air flow. I also like the idea of allowing the goggles fitting under the shield, it's two for one! Yay I win!!
Allen R on Mar 31, 2015
Just purchased a 2012 F650GS and wanted an dual sport style lid. The video review was excellent for an entry level helmet. Also, I have a SHOEI Qwest and the replacement shields are $80!! Eighty bucks for just the shield? SHOEI should be ashamed of themselves to charge that much. The video product reviews on Revzilla are incredibly helpful!
Anthony C on Mar 25, 2015
Value , review , and I need a rounded helmet .
Harlan B on Mar 23, 2015

Only 3x reasonably priced helmet I could find. So far I'm happy with it.
Terry G on Mar 4, 2015
More versatility than I get with a dirt or street helmet at an good price.
Tim C on Feb 16, 2015
Looking for a DS helmet under $200 bucks so I watched Revzilla video review and picked the AFX.

is fx-39 or fx-41 best choice? im an off-road guy but i ride my klr650 daily to work (1hr each way) in atlanta...and its cold and occasionally wet. presently just use my motox helmet and goggles but want full face with shield. need to stay under $200 and like sun-visor on fx-41. recomendations?
A shopper on Dec 16, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The helmet is great we live up in Oregon were the temperature drops dramatically and I haven't had any problems. Good luck and have fun I think it is a great helmet under 200
How is the visor wind (sound and vibration) compared to other dual sport helmets in this price range?
Lane M on Jan 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I took the visor off mine. Catches too much air for me. Instead I got a tinted windscreen overlay. It works well but I do find that a visor would be nice now and again. If I were riding more on and off trail on outings, and keeping my top speed under 50 mph or so and for short bursts, I would probably keep the visor on. I don't recall the visor vibrating at all when I did have it on. Can't speak to the noise, but I would guess that any visor is going to increase that a bit.
Is there any kind of tear off kit for this helmet? Or maybe an universal kit that fits the helmet visor? Thanks in advance for your replies...
A shopper on Oct 16, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Don't know of one, but it works well with goggles (can even get the shield down over the straps)
How hard is it to put glasses on and off with helmet on? I generally wear a modular or flip-up helmet but really want to try one of these AFX helmets.
A shopper on May 3, 2011
BEST ANSWER: It depends on how wide and square the corner of your glasses are. The helmet padding is designed to hug your cheeks comfortably. I personally use Nike wrap-around (sun)glasses with straight temples, and they are comfortable but snug. If you have regular eyeglasses, I would honestly recommend contact lenses, as helmets properly fitted are desiged to absorb impact energy from the impact point to your helmet. If you go loose enough to comfortably fit eyeglasses, you might be loosening the helmet and working against the protective intention of it. You never want a loose helmet, especially god forbid you take a tumble.

Also, the FX-39 helmets run slightly large, so I had to downsize to a Medium after I purchased my normal large size.
If my head measures 59.5 cm, do I get a medium or large sized AFX FX-39DS?
A shopper on May 25, 2011
BEST ANSWER: My head measures 59-60cm and I was hoping that the Medium would fit me. Alas, was too tight. I exchanged it for a Large and it fits really well.
This helmet looks really great but I am concerned with my ability to change the visor during a ride. Do you need a screw driver just to change the visor? Is it something that could be done on the side of the road? Being able to change from a tinted visor to a clear one at night is crucial for me. Thanks.
A shopper on Apr 26, 2012
BEST ANSWER: You need to remove three screws using the supplied plastic screwdriver tool to take the peak off, then remove two rings from either side of the visor to remove it (I found I needed needle nose pliers to do this), before popping the rings back in either side of the new visor then replacing the screws/peak etc. I found I needed to sit down somewhere to do this properly and it would take me about ten minutes. You have to be careful not to lose any bits while you're doing it too. A pain in the *** pretty much.
What are the Pros and cons of a matte black finish on the AFX FX-39? Is it true matte black is harder to keep clean and blemishes easier?
A shopper on May 26, 2011
BEST ANSWER: That is a bit of a controversial question. Some say it is more difficult to keep clean. As someone who owns a couple of matte black helmets as well as a matte black superbike I would say the finish is no more difficult to KEEP clean than any other helmet. To CLEAN one of these helmets is actually a little bit easier than other helmets since you DO NOT use any chemicals to clean the surface. simply use a warm, wet wash cloth and thats really about it (sometimes some none abrasive soaps to get rid of bugs). no coating it anything like water repellents or solvents. my helmets are kept immaculate. No scrubbing = no scratching.
Can I purchase extra visors for the AFX FX 39 DS? Thanks!
A shopper on Apr 24, 2011
BEST ANSWER: Yes, here's a link to the product on Revzilla I have the silver mirrored faceshield along with the original that the helmet comes with. The mirrored one is okay, but up close you can see it's not make with the best quality. What are you going to do about it though? The helmet comes with a tool to take off the beak and change the faceshield if you want. The screws are plastic so the beak will break off in a crash and won't snag and break your neck. Use the tool on the screws because a metal screwdriver might damage them. Otherwise, swapping is pretty easy.
this may seem like a silly question, but my question is how hot does it get in the helmet? I am thinking about buying this helmet to use as a bicycle helmet. i have a motorycle and can use it a passenger helmet, but i figure i can use this for riding my bicycle as well. I figure riding my bike i probably wont get faster then 20 or so MPH so i was wondering about the heat in the helmet at a standstill or slow speeds. im not trying to put a sweatbox on my head. i figure nice bike helmets go for about $60+ so why not check out a helmet i can use for both motorycle and bike riding. thanks.
A shopper on Jan 27, 2012
BEST ANSWER: I didn't think it was a silly question until you said you might wear it on a bicycle. I'm a cyclist myself and I would definitely not wear this on my bicycle because it's much heavier than a normal bicycle helmet. Among motorcycle helmets it's not too heavy, but it pales in comparison to any bicycle helmet. But to answer your question, it has pretty good airflow even at low speeds especially with the visor up. I rode with it in 90+ degree weather recently and even at slow urban speeds or at lights the heat never bothered me. Unless you're planning on serious accidents, I wouldn't recommend it for bicycling. I ride a Specialized Allez Compact Sport and a Ducati Monster just FYI.
I currently have a Shark Evoline 2 Medium which fits well. What size would be equivalent for FX-39?
A shopper on Dec 8, 2011
BEST ANSWER: My second AFX DS helmet (37 & 39), the fit of the 39 is much better being more oval than round but I find the AFX sizing chart completely wrong for my head/face features. My head measures 61cm, upper end of large per AFX, I found though that teh XL is too tight, creates a pressure point after an hour on the forehead, so 2XL which is what I wear in AFX (DS), HJC (dirt & street), and Bell (dirt), Take into consideration if you wear a balaclava etc.
