Super73 finally gave a first look at its electric motorcycle project with the new C1X concept. The production version of the C1X hasn’t been finalized yet, so key information like official pricing, range, and weight are missing. However, Super73’s released some other details about the bike, so let’s take a closer look.
The C1X is fundamentally different from Super73’s previous offerings (RevZilla sells Super73 products) because it no longer has pedals. This is a street-legal, throttle-only electric motorcycle that requires a motorcycle license, insurance, and registration. Super73 says its target is for the C1X is “motorcycle performance with dramatically reduced size and weight.” Super73 says a “large number” of its customers were interested in stepping up to a motorcycle after owning a Super73, so this “step up” model could keep riders within the brand beyond e-bikes. Designed for “urban exploration and highway connectivity,” the C1X’s Grom-like size should allow it to zip through city streets and park just about anywhere. Unlike many other minis, the C1X wears 15-inch wheels.
Highways would certainly test the little machine’s limits, but Super73 says the production C1X will have a top speed of 75 miles per hour. It is unlikely that the C1X will be able to sustain that speed for very long, although this isn’t meant to be a touring motorcycle. RevZilla’s home city of Philadelphia is a perfect example of an urban center where freeway speeds and larger wheels would be helpful.
The C1X’s motor is integrated with the swingarm. In the ICE world, scooters often use this arrangement. A swingarm-mount design helps Super73 achieve a compact 51-inch wheelbase, but the motor is now unsprung mass. Super73 says the batteries housed in the frame can be charged to 80 percent in about an hour (Level 2). City range is estimated to be 100 miles, and the target weight is under 300 pounds.
Super73’s core product, retro e-bikes, also got some updates for 2022. The company introduced a new entry-level model, the Z Miami, alongside a blacktop commuter model with full suspension called the R Brooklyn. For kids, a Youth Model is now available. Enthusiasm for e-bikes shows no signs of slowing down, and Super73 is in a good position to meet that demand with several generations of popular products.
SUPER73 has opened reservations for the C1X for a late 2023 production date. How long until a production version is released? “Development is well underway.” Grabbing a spot in line will cost you $73.
