Scenes from India Bike Week

Dec 17, 2024

India Bike Week (IBW) is the largest motorcycling festival in the world's largest motorcycle market, attracting thousands of riders, enthusiasts, brands, and industry experts from across the country to an annual event that is a vibrant celebration of motorcycling culture.

IBW 2024 happened earlier this month at the Hilltop Vagator venue in Goa, featuring bike expos, live music, stunt shows, workshops, product launches, and talks from prominent motorcycling figures. Known as the "Vegas" of India, Goa's mix of adventure, nightlife, and scenic beauty makes it the perfect host for this high-octane event. Riders from all walks of life, from beginners to seasoned adventurers, gathered to enjoy the camaraderie, music, and sheer love for motorcycles, as you can see in the IBW video below.

Over two days, IBW offered a packed schedule of adrenaline-filled activities. Daytime entertainment included Harley-Davidson's flat-track race, the hill climb time trial, and numerous motorcycle displays. As the sun set, the main stage came alive with energetic performances, with India's favorite rapper Divine delivering an unforgettable show.

For me, a personal highlight was the Big Trip tent, where seasoned riders shared inspiring stories. Listening to their adventures and exchanging thoughts added depth to the experience. The artistic motorcycle builds by Bombay Custom Works and others were another standout. These builds showcased the creativity and innovation thriving in the Indian biking community.

IBW isn't just a festival; it's also a platform for brands to connect with the riding community. This year, KTM stole the spotlight by unveiling the 2024 KTM 390 Adventure S and KTM 390 Enduro R. These bikes meet the growing demand in India for powerful yet versatile motorcycles in the 300-400 cc segment. Other major players, such as Hero and Harley-Davidson, showcased their latest offerings, while Brixton made an impressive debut with its unique lineup. Rynox Gear, India's largest motorcycle gear manufacturer, attracted attention with their innovative range, from off-road gear co-designed with Dakar athletes to versatile urban and adventure gear. Other brands were present, and the biggest surprise to me was the display by watchmaker Seiko, which blended motorcycling and horology in a delightful way.

Reflecting the growing motorcycling culture

India Bike Week reflects the rapidly evolving motorcycling culture in India. It's a cultural melting pot where enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds connect, beyond traditional riders. From urban commuters finding an escape on two wheels to women riders making their mark, the event celebrates the inclusivity and growth of the biking community.

"I started riding a few years ago, and it was the best decision I ever made," said Aisha, a female rider from Bengaluru who is part of the growing number of women riders who are changing the perception of motorcycling in India. "Motorcycling has taught me so much about myself—strength, independence, and embracing the unknown."

Alongside newcomers such as Aisha, you'll find riders who have made a tradition of coming to India Bike Week, many of them as part of their riding club. Clubs from all over India come to the event.

"We plan a group ride every year to IBW," said Karan, a member of a Pune-based riding club. "It's our tradition. We come together, share our experiences, and just enjoy the thrill of riding with friends."

The future of India Bike Week

As India Bike Week continues to evolve, I expect it to remain a cornerstone of the Indian motorcycling scene and be a part of what puts India on the global motorcycling map. Organizers have plans to expand IBW to a larger venue next year, aiming to accommodate its growing popularity and create even more immersive experiences.

Whether you're a weekend warrior who rides to get away for some fun, a seasoned adventurer taking long trips, or a new rider learning about riding, IBW has become a great place to connect with other riders and learn. I invite you to join us in Goa for another unforgettable experience in 2025!
