News: Suzuki releasing GSX-S750 to U.S. market

Oct 03, 2014

I just got home from the Suzuki North America Dealer Show, where I got to see and sit on what I think is one of the most exciting announcements made this week. Dealers got to see it this morning, which means I can finally talk about the 2015 Suzuki GSX-S750.

The GSX-S750 will feature a re-tuned 749cc four-cylinder engine taken from the GSX-R750, which is one of my personal favorites. If that isn't enough to get you excited, consider next that the suggested MSRP is $7,999. Sound like another favorite naked of mine? God, I love a good competition.

Alongside the GSX-S750, Suzuki is releasing the GSX-S750Z (MSRP $8,149), which basically adds gold front fork tubes, blue-and-white plastic bits, and some other differently painted parts, for a slight upgrade. I love the gold tubes and red rear spring, but in person it's the black model that really shines.

It's no surprise that Suzuki chose to make the GSX-S1000 their big launch this week, given the recent popularity of the super-naked class, but after sitting on both (and considering what it's like to ride a 750cc sportbike, compared to the 1000cc supersports) the GSX-S750 is already at the top of my must-ride list. The GSX-R750 motor was already a nice balance between low-end torque and mid-range power, and it will be exciting to see what a re-tuned version for "street sport" riding will feel like.

The real question will be, how will the 749cc inline-four of the Suzuki GSX-S750 stack up next to the 849cc triple in the Yamaha FZ-09? Will the Suzuki be a more polished package? Will that make up for its extra weight? Only time will tell.
