Harley-Davidson is a company that inspires emotional reactions in a way you just don't get with most corporations. From fans who have the company founders tattooed on their backs to riders who can't stand either the machines or the culture surrounding them, there's no shortage of strong opinions.
Naturally, since this is the age of social media, that also means there are plenty of people online who are tapping into that interest to cash in. Thus you see YouTube and TikTok videos and online articles with breathless titles suggesting Harley-Davidson is imminently about to go out of business or has committed some outrage against its loyal customers. Episode three of season 11 of the Highside/Lowside motorcycle podcast aims at a more balanced, accurate, and fact-based look at the iconic Motor Company. Your co-host Spurgeon Dunbar is joined on this episode by Common Tread Managing Editor Lance Oliver as they take a look at both the very real structural challenges that Harley-Davidson faces as well as its strengths, along with a look at how the company has changed strategies under its last two CEOs and is now entering a new era with newly appointed CEO Artie Starrs. Listen in for a discussion of Harley-Davidson that hopefully brings more light than heat.
