Fathers and motorcycles are a sometimes complicated combination that go back as far as motorcycles have been around.
Even when we can trace our love for motorcycling in a straight line back back to dear ol' dad, that doesn't mean there aren't parental reservations and even worries along the journey. For this episode of Highside/Lowside, hosts Zack and Spurgeon talk to their own fathers, Tim Courts and Spurgeon Dunbar, often referred to on the podcast as "Senior."
Eavesdrop on the memories as Zack and his father talk about Zack's first rides on a Suzuki RM80 and the first time Zack beat his father in a race. Tim also talks about what he would hope for his young grandson, in terms of being introduced to motorcycling right — if that's something he ends up being interested in. What was Spurgeon the father thinking when he took his young boys to motorcycle shops on the weekend but then told them they weren't allowed to have one? What was he thinking when Spurgeon the son rode home on a Triumph Bonneville he'd just bought and laid the key on the table in front of his father? And what about that memorable first motorcycle camping trip they took together to Skyline Drive in Virginia?
There's a lot to think about in this episode of Highside/Lowside, as Zack, a new father, and Spurgeon, a soon-to-be father, talk with their dads about fathering, motorcycling, and life in general.
