2025 Ducati Multistrada V2 first look: All the adventure needed?

Dec 05, 2024

As the smaller sibling of the luxuriously equipped Multistrada V4, the Multistrada V2 hardly commands as much attention as its bigger brother. That could very well change in 2025, with Ducati recently announcing several premium upgrades for the middleweight adventurer.

Renewed drive

At the core of the MTS V2 thumps Ducati’s all-new 890 cc 90-degree V-twin. The mill reportedly produces 115 horsepower (at 10,750 rpm) in ADV form. That’s two more ponies than the outgoing Testestretta twin’s 113 peak horsepower rating, despite the new V2 forfeiting 47 cc to its 937 cc predecessor. It’s a different story in the torque department, though. Whereas Ducati listed the previous-gen Multi at 72.3 foot-pounds, the 2025 model only claims 67.9 foot-pounds. That peak also arrives much later in the rev range, at 8,250 rpm (compared to 6,750 rpm).

Ducati's newest V-twin was first implemented in the 2025 Panigale V2 and Streetfighter V2. In those models, the engine is rated at 120 horsepower (at 10,750 rpm) and 69 foot-pounds (at 8,250 rpm). Ducati photo.

The new engine also benefits from four power modes (High, Medium, Low, Off-Road), which allow the user to dial the bike’s output between 95 and 115 horsepower. Of course, five ride modes (Sport, Touring, Urban, Enduro, and Wet) adjust the throttle response to the rider’s whims — or in the Wet mode's case, Mother Nature’s whims. Those features join advanced rider aids such as engine brake control, Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) 2.0, traction control, and wheelie control.

New digs

Ducati doesn’t just dangle its new powerplant from the Multistrada’s old trellis frame. Instead, a new monocoque aluminum front frame reports for duty. Combined with the updated tubular steel subframe, cast aluminum swingarm, and lighter engine, the new Multi weighs 39.7 pounds less than the 2024 model. That brings the standard V2 to 439 pounds (without fuel) and the V2 S to 445 pounds (again, sans fuel).

The monocoque frame enabled Ducati engineers to create a “slim bike with a narrow fit,” which reportedly helps riders place their feet on the ground at a stop. Ducati photo.

The Multistrada’s accessibility goes beyond its svelte figure, too. Ducati equips the ADV with a two-position saddle that raises the seat height to 33.5 inches or drops it to 32.7 inches. An accessory tall seat increases legroom with its 34.3-inch seat height, while a lowering kit prioritizes sure footing with a 31.9-inch seat height.

Thanks to its semi-active Ducati Skyhook Suspension (DSS), the S variant achieves an even lower seat height of 31.1 inches (when Minimum Preload setting is active). Like the Multistrada V4, the V2 S also allows users to adjust DSS settings independent of the ride mode.

All the adventure needed?

When Ducati debuted the 2025 Multistrada V2, it framed the model with the tagline “Unlock Everyday Adventure.” It’s easy to see why. In addition to its new engine, monocoque frame, and updated tech, the V2 boasts travel-worthy features like cruise control, a 5.02-gallon gas tank, and a USB charging port. Its 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels suit road trips as well as the occasional off-road detour. Dirt-seeking adventurers can even swap the cast wheels for a spoked wheelset.

Seemingly, the Multistrada V2 has all its adventure bases covered. And it better, with the base model starting at $15,995 and the V2 S carrying a $19,295 price tag. Still, the new V2 marks a comprehensive update for the lineup. Whether or not that helps it step out of the Multistrada V4’s shadow or not, we’ll have to wait and see.
