Reevu MSX1 Helmet

The world's first rear-view helmet!  Reevu has been the industry leader in rear view technology with their patented mirror system, manufactured from a reflective polycarbonate material rather than glass! The polycarbonate material is almost impossible to break, weighs less than glass and provides additional safety and comfort to the rider. The mirror system essentially bends the light around the shell of the helmet, offering a clear view of what's behind. The Reevu System works just like a car's rear view mirror offering awareness of the road ahead and behind without making a conscious effort as both are simultaneously in your field of view.

Features:

  • Patented rear-view technology
  • Tri-composite carbon fibreglass, Kevlar and synthetic hi-tenacity advanced fibre shell
  • Fully removable and washable liner
  • Anti-fog face shield
  • The Reevu Mobility Program gives the rider  an opportunity to replace their Reevu helmet that has been damaged in a crash with a new one at just 1/2 of the price

Note: Helmet ships with clear face shield.

Great for the city
I'll admit it: I love gadgets, and the idea of this helmet was intriguing.
First thing, the fit is perfect for my 58cm oval head. I ordered a medium; the fit is very snug with no pressure points and the check pads are nice and snug.

The visor is distortion free and has a very wide field of view. Visor fitment is adjustable, though I'm not sure why it needs to be: scews securing the hinge mechanism can be loostened to allow fine tuning of the visor closed position (the bottom edge of mine wouldn't seal until I fooled with the hinge adjustments).

The helmet is noisy, but earplugs take care of most of it.
The rear view mirror is great for city and other close-quarters riding (read 'lane splitting'). And like in the other reviews, you'll find it takes a little while to get used to and learn how to effectively utilize the rear view feature. With the amount of "fisheye" distortion present, images in the rear view mirror are all but useless in open highway riding.

The rear view mirror is usefull for about 75% of the riding I do: city , around town and twisties where some of the locals follow you so closely you can't see them in your regular mirrors.

Another downside is that I can't wear my polarized sun glasses with it becase the polycarbonite prism device turns black when I look in the mirror wearing them.

Overall I like this helmet, I think it offers good protection and the rear view mirror is very usefull once you learn how to use it: It's a keeper.

Worth it
This definitely takes some getting used to, but once you get used to it, you'll be glad you bought it.

In terms of style and protection, this helmet at least as good as other helmets of the same price, so don't feel bad about paying more for the feature. Just having that extra range of vision can be a life saver.

Tighten down the mirror after you get it adjusted right and it doesn't jostle at all wile riding.

Comfortable chin strap and plenty of room inside for Sena speakers and a mic.

The rear view mirror system is a great idea
Great Idea with the rear view mirror system, though it needs a couple more tweaks to get you to see a bit better out of the back with the reflected plate on it have not replaced it with the clear one yet but great overall helmet still a bit noisy and the decals are just a bit excessive love the helmet would buy again can't wait to see how they improve upon this helmet.

great idea, needs serious work
Returned it because: 1) Way too heavy, and fit seemed an afterthought; 2) the rear view works, but is seriously compromised by lack of optical baffling which makes it glarey and distracting, and the view, tho, sufficient to detect things, by design is quite narrow, of course.

One of a kind
The REEVU MX-1 is truly a one of a kind helmet on the market today. I purchased the matte black option with the mirrored face shield.
I have about 10 years experience riding sport bikes and I have never seen a helmet so advanced.
I admit it takes a couple weeks of continuous riding to get used to a new stream of data coming at you due to the fact you have already trained yourself to focus on other things on the road.
Although I was willing to go out on a limb to try rear-view technology, I was a bit disappointed with the huge "Reevu" branding graphics on both sides of the helmet. In the future I hope they could be a little more subtle about getting their name out there; the industry leaders have proved subtleness in branding successful. So, if they plan to sell to the younger crowd they should consider changing the color/graphics scheme.
My next complaint is the quality of the matte finish; I recommend a helmet bag if you plan to purchase this option because the paint scratches extremely easily. I barely bumped the door when I was leaving a movie theater once and left a big nasty scratch on the side. Eventually I had to get the helmet professionally repainted to repair the small scratches I had accumulated over the course of a few months.
The last issue I had with the helmet was the fit, it seems as though this design was only meant for a round or semi oval head, so anyone with an oval head like me will probably experience a lot of wind noise.
Overall, I have enjoyed having this helmet despite the few negatives I’ve encountered.

First helmet is a Reevu
I got this helmet about a month ago as my first helmet. I immediately adapted to using the rear view mirror feature, I can tell you now that I can't live without it. The helmet is a bit noisy and the air flow up around the neck is a lil much but the pros out weight the cons by far.

Awesome Helmet
My first helmet, helmet is a bit heavier than other helmets but nothing too bad. Having the ability to look behind you is amazing, I can see three lanes wide behind me. Makes it a lot easier to be aware of your surroundings, using head checks and side mirrors plus looking behind you using the rearview its boss. Rearview mirror has never shifted while riding. Great helmet, would buy again.
