Reevu FSX1 Rear-View Modular Helmet

Reevu, the technology-leader in rear vision helmets has introduces the world's first rear view modular helmet system.

Reevu has been the industry leader in rear view technology with their patented mirror system, manufactured from a reflective polycarbonate material rather than glass! The polycarbonate material is almost impossible to break, weighs less than glass and provides additional safety and comfort to the rider. The mirror system essentially bends the light around the shell of the helmet, offering a clear view of what's behind. The Reevu System works just like a car's rear view mirror offering awareness of the road ahead and behind without making a conscious effort as both are simultaneously in your field of view.

Features:

  • Tri-composite carbon fibreglass, Kevlar and synthetic hi-tenacity advanced fibre shell
  • Dual density EPS
  • Polycarbonate ventilation slots that together with the channeling on the inside shell, allow the air flow inside the helmet
  • Polycarbonate injected visor with high optical quality and easy shield swap
  • Completely removable and washable lining for perfect comfort and cleanliness
  • The Reevu Mobility Program gives the rider the opportunity to replace their Reevu helmet that has been damaged in a crash with a new one at just 1/2 of the price

Note:  Helmet ships with clear face shield.

This product has a handy feature
The internal rear vision system does take a bit of getting used to and on dark stormy days is a little dark, that being said if you ride a sports bike and therefore have restricted rear vision this helmet will be handy.Vehicles viewed through the helmet will appear closer than they are and there is a small amount of distortion at the very outside edges but for that time where you are being followed by a POLICE vehicle you will see them without it being obvious, giving you time to drop to the speed limit or to make that monumental decision to stop or make a run for it. Sometimes I find that decision hard to make. At 64 years old it should be easy....Ride hard or go home. review by Cayuga Duck 1.

City Riding its a must
I have the RVMSX1 model and its the greatest helmet I have ever had been able to see behind is awesome and has changed the way I ride. This RV FSX1 model is a lot lighter which is a surprise for a flip model. It seemed noisy at first until I contacted the aftersales@reevu.com They explained that I needed to take off the front visor and tighten the philips head screw. It was slightly loose.. The noise has now gone.

Helmet is overall awesome, but...
I bought this helmet for my fiancee who rides a Victory Vegas 8 Ball. He fell in love with the rear view technology this one offered. He tried it on and loved the fit, feel and quality of the helmet. The rear view system is really cool and easy to get used to. The two major drawbacks to this helmet that made it a no-go for him was the poor air flow. Man this helmet gets hot and we live in Arizona! The biggest drawback is the placement of the chin strap and how it cuts into his adam's apple. There is just now way to move it away or adjust it.
This helmet seems like it would be more comfortable for a woman or for someone who rides a sport bike in a cooler area than Arizona. Reevu has a great idea, but the product definitely needs to be improved on.

lives up to the hype
I did a lot of research before buying this helmet. I wasn't sure if the rear-view function was going to be a gimmick or not. Most reviews I've read were positive, so I took a chance and spent the money.

I'm glad I did. This helmet is very well made. It fits very comfortably, better than my Shoei Neotec. It's about the same weight as my Shoei too. It has a better field of view out the front than the Shoei.

The rear view aspect of this helmet is the real deal. It's identical to having a rear view mirror in a car. You glance at it quickly every couple of seconds while in traffic just to do quick spot checks and it works great. Now I know exactly what's going on behind me at all times. It really works.

I don't see how this is the only brand helmet with this incredible feature. It should be standard equipment on all motorcycle helmets. I wouldn't be surprised to see something similar from all other motorcycle helmet manufacturers in the near future.

Very convenient, but noisy
I already have an MSX1 helmet that I really like, but I wanted a modular for the convenience of being able to put on or remove the helmet without taking off my glasses. Also, you can talk to someone, or take a drink, etc. without having to remove your helmet. I just took the "MSF Basic RiderCourse2 Skills Practice" class (used to be called the "experienced rider" class) and it was very nice to be able to open the helmet's modular section between training sessions to hear the instructor and to ask questions.

Pros: 1) Very convenient (see above), 2) love the rear view feature, 3) lighter than the MSX1, 4) modular front section feels pretty secure when closed, 5) easy to open the modular section--even with gloves.

Cons: 1) Very loud wind noise (it's tolerable with ear plugs), 2) price seems close to the Nolan modulars, but seems much noisier, 3) chin strap is a little too far back for me compared to the MSX1 so it digs into your throat a little.

Overall, I like it, especially if I can figure out how to put in a gasket to block out the wind noise. The noise is really irritating when riding my electric motorcycle--not so bad on my Buell Blast.

A Gimmick that Works
I was looking for a new helmet mainly because I do year-round riding and needed something that was going to work with a pinlock insert. This says it comes pinlock ready, and I got sucked in by the cool-factor of the rear-view tech.

This is my first modular helmet, and I'm not sure if it's normal for a modular or unique to this helmet, but I've found I need to have the chin guard up to get the helmet on or off, otherwise the fabric windscreen at the bottom gets in the way.

It has a ratchet strap, which I thought I wouldn't care for as a D-ring system always seemed so secure, but it's very sturdy and actually allows me to manipulate it with gloves on now.

The Reevu is pinlock ready, but I had trouble finding a visor that would work for it, and ended up writing the company who directed me to UK Ebay for a compatible insert. It's ordered and on it's way but it'd be nice if I could have found it on Revzilla, or any other US site for that matter. A fog City insert with pinlock cutouts worked well enough for a bit, but I've since ordered the actual insert from Ebay.

The rear-view tech is pretty awesome. It works well with my riding position on a Suzuki VStrom, but I imagine that while it would have more value on a sport-bike IMO, the more aggressive riding position would make it harder to use the rear-view effectively. I will be readjusting my side view mirrors once I get used to the helmet fully, to take full advantage of a wider mirror field of view. The mirror in the helmet is modest, but doesn't interfere with a normal field of view.

One note; if you wear sunglasses, you'll want to switch to rimless glasses, as the rims would be almost guaranteed to block the helmet's mirror. I use $2 safety glasses anyway, and have not had a problem with obstructed view of the mirror.

All in all, a good experience. The helmet is louder than my last helmet, but It also allows more room for my ear buds, so I'm able to block out most noise anyway. It's warm enough and fits snug at first, but is now comfortable even with a balaclava for cold weather riding. I bought it based on the manufacturers size chart. The neck roll takes a bit of getting used to, and I may ditch it in the summer, but for now it's nice.

Good quality and comfortable
1. This helmet felt nice and light compared to my previous Harley Davidson modular.
2. Visibility is excellent
3. You should push the helmet forward, its more comfortable and the rear view is better.
4. Rear view is a bit wavy due to the plastic mirror but it does the job ok. I need to look over my glasses, looking through them doesn't work so well.
5. Noise is ok with the visor in an open position. The detent on the visor is excellent, it really holds well. The only drawback of the helmet is the outrageous noise with the visor closed. It isn't so bad on my Victory Vision because of the windshield. I always ride with the visor open anyway unless it's raining. I don't recommend it for someone without a windshield.
6. Placing the speakers for my Sena bluetooth was tricky. The liner near the ear has no cutouts so I had to place the speakers partly forward, under the snap-in liner to clear my ears. It hits when they are directly at the ear, ouch. One benefit of this is that they are so close that the audio volume is much better compared to my last helmet. There is no easy direct routing path for the speaker cables due to the zip in collar. I had to route it forward around the end of the zipper then back in under the liner. There was just enough cable to reach.
7. The under chin collar can be a bit annoying, you have to push it down and out when closing the face shield.
8. The helmet has a metal stud that the face shield locks into. It looks to be quite secure in the case of a fall.
9. It is a tall helmet so you may bump you head until you get used to that.
10. It's easier to put your glasses on after the helmet goes on, I tend to knock one side of the glasses off my ear.
11. I'd like to see a mod to the helmet to reduce the noise...

Next best thing to eyes in the back of your head.
After 6 or 7 rides, the quick glance upwards became second nature. I feel safer and more in control wearing this helmet. It has dramatically reduced my need to turn my head for those critical blind spot checks--in fact, I think it may have eliminated my blind spots.

My helmet of choice
I ride primarily a 1993 Kawasaki Voyager XII and 2008 Kawasaki KLR650.

For about 5-6 years a Reevu helmet has been my helmet of choice. The rear-view technology is invaluable. I just ordered my second FSX1 which will be my 5th Reevu helmet. I`m pretty hard on helmets, forget and drop them accidentally off my handlebar or seat, do a lot of all weather, all season (minus snow and ice) riding at about 10-12k miles per year; mostly commuting and touring.

FSX1 Fit is right on the mark. It is comfortable, cheek pads are not to tight and I think comfortable with some room I can wear a layer or 2 of my balaclavas (depending on how cold it is). There is a neck collar pad that helps to cut out wind/chill in colder temps and it can be removed for warmer weather if you decide to do so. This pad does not cause chafing and is also comfortable.

The modular section has a chin curtain to also help with wind protection and wind noise reduction. The chin strap is easy to adjust and the ratchet clasp makes for a secure restraint but easy on and off as well with a tug on the clasp strap. It is not the lightest helmet on the market but weight does not bother me and the weight does not cause me neck or muscle pain. It is just right as far as weight.

Noise is about average and I do not need ear plugs; I can hear my Bluetooth headset and music from my bike speakers just fine. It works well with my Cardo ScalaRider Teamset Pro Bluetooth headset gear.

The modular faceshield section is easily opened and closed. The clear faceshield could use a few more detents (opening notches) so that in colder weather you can adjust it open a smaller amount (about half of the opening it does now) just enough to let some air in to help keep inside visor clear and fresh air flow. The vents (chin and forehead) are adequate but need the visor opened a bit to assist when it fogs up (like any other helmet I've had like Shoei, HJC, etc.).

Rearview system has improved since I started purchasing Reevu helmets. The mirror system presents a non-intrusive and clear, non-distorted image of directly behind me, eliminating dangerous blindspots. I still use all of my mirrors and aving Reevu rear-view support increases my ability to see behnd me 100%. The rear view optical part is easily adjusted on the fly. The rear view visor (shield part on the back of the helmet that allows light and view of objects) is mirrored which helps to reduce the glare. Very clear at night and not only just shows the headlights but additional detail without glare. Glare from the sun also is reduced when sun shines in from the rear into the reqar view system. It does not block forward view and the rear view optical part acts as a sun visor for those days where sun is directly in your eyes. My original FSX1 was black, this time I purchased a white one for increased visibility.

This is a highly recommended helmet! Feel free to contact me if you have questions or see my additional blog article and pictures (with the Bluetooth set) on these helmets at: http://rmpmotosports.com/wordpress/?page_id=742
