If you’re a regular Common Tread reader, then you’ve seen a fair amount of content surrounding the Yamaha YZF-R7 that Yoshimura R&D built for the MotoAmerica Twins Cup.
We introduced the project back in April, then published an update in June after our first few testing and development sessions at the track. Then, in August, a final article documenting the project’s culmination at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
Those articles were laced with descriptions of the various components that the Yosh team was developing for the bike, and the many modifications made to transform Yamaha’s budget sporting street bike into a top-tier race bike. Now we’ve concentrated those details into a quick video that touches on the many aspects that distinguish Yoshimura’s R7 from what you’ll see at your local dealership.
From the obvious (that paint!) to the subtle (the 1.5 millimeter higher swingarm pivot), we walk you through the highlights of this amazing machine, and give you a glimpse into the effort and determination that went into the project. Enjoy!
