KTM has remained in the headlines as of late — for all the wrong reasons. From layoffs and production halts to flirting with bankruptcy, the Austrian firm's financial woes continue to pepper the news feed. KTM hopes to cut through all the noise with the arrival of its newest model, the 1390 Super Adventure R.

The R-spec variant is known as the dirt-biased member of the Super Adventure lineup. Team Orange introduced its road-oriented counterpart, the 1390 Super Adventure S Evo, in late October. Despite their difference, both models share core components. The first of which, KTM’s 1,350 cc 75-degree V-twin, carries over unchanged.
That’s, by no means, a bad thing. After all, the updated LC8 still produces a claimed 170 horsepower and 107 foot-pounds of torque. It also benefits from variable valve timing (branded as CAMSHIFT by KTM), which lifts the valves higher and longer in the upper rev range while the inlet cams reduce valve timing and lift at lower engine speeds.
The engine also rests in the same steel trellis frame found on the Super Adventure S. The chassis goes its own direction from there. Instead of co-opting the S trim’s semi-active WP suspension, the R attacks the trail with a 48 mm WP XPLOR fork and a fully adjustable WP XPLOR monoshock. Both provide 8.6 inches of travel, or 0.7 inches more than its relative.
Working our way down to the wheels, the Super Adventure R lives up to its dirt pedigree with a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear hoop wrapped in Bridgestone AT 41 tires. A steering damper also keeps the 1390 steady when the terrain turns tough.
When it comes to the technology bucket, the Super Adventure is positively brimming. The R arrives with traction control, cornering ABS, cruise control, and a tire pressure monitor. The ride modes include Rain, Street, Sport, Off-Road, and Custom, but the trail-tackling Rally mode is an optional add-on. KTM also places Hill Hold Control, Quickshifter+, and a front radar unit behind an accessories paywall.
Similar to the 1390 Super Adventure S, the R model will ship to the United States in late 2025 as a 2026 model. KTM hasn’t released pricing information for either variant just yet.
Yes, this announcement marks some much-needed good news for the brand. The road ahead won’t be easy, but the 1390 Super Adventure R’s arrival shows that KTM continues to forge ahead.
