MV Agusta characterizes the Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro as the “shape of desire,” a “sculpture on two wheels.” Throughout the official unveiling, MV’s reps drew parallels to luxury watches and great works of art.
With a U.K. price tag of £61,400, the “Gold Series” Superveloce better be more than just a motorcycle. It better be rolling art (and then some). And that’s just in the Queen’s Money. MV hasn’t announced U.S. pricing yet, but expect to shell out even more Freedom Bucks if you’re pre-ordering from the States (applying the current exchange rate comes to around $78,500).
So, just how does the Italian firm justify that staggering MSRP? How does it sell a retro-clad Brutale 1000 for nearly double the price? Let’s take a look, shall we?
Function
The Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro features the same 998 cc inline-four engine from the Rush 1000 and Brutale 1000 series. According to MV Agusta, the mill still makes 208 horsepower (at 13,000 rpm) and 85.9 foot-pounds of torque (at 11,000 rpm). Just because the four-banger is a holdover doesn’t make it any less premium. Titanium valves, forged titanium connecting rods, and DLC-coated cams prove as much. Eight fuel injectors (four lower and four upper) and 50 mm throttle bodies only uphold those standards.
The engine may be a known entity, but MV claims the model’s electronics are tailored to the Superveloce 1000. That includes eight levels of traction control, cornering ABS, front lift control (FLC), rear-wheel lift mitigation (RLM), launch control, and four ride modes (Rain, Sport, Race, and Custom). Each mode adjusts throttle sensitivity, engine torque, engine braking, engine response, rev limiter, and electronic suspension settings accordingly. Of course, riders can fine-tune those parameters in the Custom setting.
MV’s EAS 4.0 bi-directional quickshifter encourages sportier pursuits while cruise control suits long-haul endeavors. The model’s 5.5-inch TFT doesn’t just offer access to the vast range of rider aids, but paired with the Serie Oro’s integrated GPS module and the MV Ride app, also relays turn-by-turn directions to the user. A Mobisat satellite alarm (managed via the Greenbox app) protects the customer’s investment, and MV throws in a free membership for the first year.
All that performance and tech crams into the Superveloce 1000’s trellis frame. Comprised of high-strength steel tubes and aluminum plates, the frame connects to an aluminum alloy swingarm, which isn’t just single-sided but also features a height-adjustable connector pin. If the Serie Oro’s luxe nature ever falls into question, look no further than the Öhlins 43 mm inverted fork, 36 mm monoshock, and steering damper, all of which offer electronic adjustability.
Given the model’s limited-edition billing, it's no surprise that a Brembo braking system (featuring its top-tier Stylema calipers) flanks the Serie Oro. It doesn’t just slow the Supervoce’s roll, it also adapts to the situation. In Sport mode, cornering ABS and RLM remain active. That all changes in Race mode, where ABS intervention is reduced at the front, deactivated at the rear, and cornering ABS is disengaged altogether. The RLM feature also offers more control over rear-wheel lift.
Admittedly, it’s some pretty trick stuff, but it still might pale in comparison to the Superveloce’s design.
Form
If you’ve ever laid your eyes on MV’s Superveloce 800 Serie Oro (or any of its umpteen variants), the 1000’s design comes as little surprise. The round headlight, the classic lines, the red and silver livery all return on the liter-class Super-V. That doesn’t make it any less stunning. Some key elements only add to the eye candy.
Winglets are all the rage in today’s high-end sport bike landscape. MV isn’t going to admit to wave-hopping, though. Instead, it points to its 1972 Grand Prix machine as the inspiration for the Superveloce 1000’s aerodynamic wings. Sure, the brand throws out terms like drag coefficient and vertical load, but let’s not kid ourselves, those ideas are afterthoughts to the winglets' visual impact.
It may not be evident from the Pearl Shock Red and Ago Silver paint job, but all of the Serie Oro’s bodywork is crafted from carbon fiber. From the dashboard support to the chain guard, MV utilized both twill and short-fiber composite carbon fiber parts throughout the build. That attention to detail defines the model. Whether it’s the F4 750 Serie Oro-inspired cast/spoke rear wheel or the four-pipe Akrapovič exhaust exiting under the seat, no luxury is spared. Even the saddle is wrapped in Alcantara and the tank strap is made of genuine leather.
Funds?
All 500 Superveloce 1000 Serie Oro examples bear a serialized laser-engraved plate located under the dash. The limited-run model also comes with a dedicated kit that includes a seat, footpegs, and heel guards for a passenger as well as a certificate of authenticity, a bike cover, CNC-machined brake and clutch levers, and height-adjustable swingarm plates.
As the newest member of the Pierer Mobility Group, MV Agusta now offers a four-year warranty on each Serie Oro unit. The Italian marque also claims that 60% of the available stock is already spoken for, so if your collection is missing the “shape of desire” and you have around $70,000 on hand, Superveloce 1000 preorders are open at MV Agusta’s website.
