Fog be Gone! my Shoei's lens was fogging up bad in the cold weather... so on recommendation from a friend I bought a pinlock to put in my new dark smoke visor.. I walked around inside of the house breathing heavy with the helmet on. yeah.. I know.. weird.. but it worked! no fogging at all.. can't wait to get out on the bike with it. March 7, 2014
Absolutely NO fogging I have had several issues with fogging previously, once I put this visor and insert on, I have had absolutely no fogging in any conditions!! March 2, 2014
I wouldn't have a helmut without it. These things are a miracle. I can't imagine riding without it. Humid, cold, doesn't matter, it keeps the fog off. February 24, 2014
Great addition to a Shoei Qwest Works great, simple to install. Haven't had a fogging issue since installation. Wearing at night causes some weird reflections in shield from approaching headlights, but this is noted in the installation manual. February 17, 2014
Works as advertised Shield does not fog at all with this product. Perfect fit to helmet when closed. February 3, 2014
A must have for Shoie Qwest helmets This lens works great on my Shoie CW-1 face shield on my Shoie Qwest. Without the lens, the shield fogs up like crazy, even in normal weather. With it, no fogging except a little bit at the bottom. I did have to rotate the pin locks on the face shield 180 degrees to increase the tension so that the lens would fit tight. In the default configuration, the lens had an 1/8th inch gap at the bottom between the lens and shield. January 27, 2014
Exellent Been riding for several days now in winter, I just rode in this morning . No fog. Installations were simple. It works for me! December 17, 2013
Some good, some bad. The pinlock system eliminated fogging. That is the good news. The bad news is that the exterior of the visor, when rain and mist are present, does not clear effectively. The rain and mist obscured my vision and I had to wipe the visor constantly with my glove. December 2, 2013

RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
Mike H: This lens is an absolute must if you have a Pinlock shield. Without it, my shield would fog up in the best of weather, with it I only get minor moisture accumulation at the bottom outside of the lens.

Make sure the pinlock cams are facing the correct direction based on the shield size. I had them facing the wrong direction initially and there was a minor gap at the bottom between lens and shield. This led to a good bit of fog between lens and shield. Flipped the cams and it's great!

Eric G asked: I guess I'm not quite understanding the system. I figured you'd buy a clear shield with a clear lense for night and a smoke lense for days. But the lenses are only clear. If I buy a smoke shield and put a clear lense on a smoke shield, aren't I still getting smoke? Aug 21, 2013

Jason P: That would be my understanding. Personally I would buy another insert for each shield because swapping them back and forth consistently might scratch them or wallow out the attachment slots. I wear sunglasses under mine but I know a lot of people don't like that. The lenses are well worth the money though. Zero fog... Aug 22, 2013

Chris O: The shield is the part that attaches to the helmet. The lenses snap into the shield, and they come in different colors. I just use clear and clear, and wear sunglasses as needed. Fog tech wipes are handy to use on sunglasses in the winter to keep them from fogging. Aug 22, 2013

ADVLIF: Hello Joca,
I just got the CW-1 Pinlock Face Shield for my Shoei RF-1100. Let me tell you up front that it is amazing! I used to have to ride constantly with the face shield cracked to allow air to flow into the helmet to keep from fogging but with the Pinlock I can ride all day long without the problem of fogging, even at stop lights. The Pinlock system is two pieces, the face shield and the lens. The the lens fits inside the shield and locks in on two pins that are on the inside of the shield. Once installed there is a bead of silicone on the back of the lens that makes contact with the shield forming a void between the two and preventing condensation. It's been around for years in Europe and here as well but just not used as frequently. On a scale of 10, I would give it a 10 for effectiveness.

RevZilla: The CW-1 Pinlock Lens goes on the inside of a Shoei CW-1 Pinlock Face Shield. This combination allows for a fog free ride! Feb 8, 2013

A shopper asked: Are most folks using the clear standard shield with the Pinlocker? How is the contrast between the two tints (unless you go clear-clear) in riding conditions?

I'm concerned about coverage around the edges 'flashing,' etc. Normally, I simply get a smoke shield, but the possibility of getting that same value with fog deterrent features using Pinlock sounds like a winner.

HowHH: I got both the clear and dark smoke Pinlock inserts so I can have coverage for both overcast as well as sunny days. I would have preferred a shield in dark smoke to use with a clear Pinlock insert, but the dark smoke Pinlock shield is not yet available here in the US. The dark smoke Pinlock insert is very close in tint to the dark smoke non-Pinlock Shoei shield that I have. Oct 30, 2012

RevZilla: Yes, there can be a highlight around the rim of the Pinlock lens, when using the tinted version on the Shoei CW-1 shield. Whether of not it is enough to be a distraction is going to be personal judgment. From personal experience, I tend to use a regular dark shield and the clear Pinlock for inclement weather. A shopper asked: Do you guys sell the Pinlock Protectint lenses for the CW-1 Shield? Nov 5, 2011
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
drbev: I have directly contacted both Pinlock and Shoei USA. Shoei USA does NOT intend to import the Protectint lens for the CW-1 shield. They explain that the CW-1 shield blocks out 99% of UV rays, and since the Protectint lens requires UV rays in order to tint, that lens will not be effective with the CW-1 shield AT ALL. Feb 20, 2012

AliB: Currently, the Pinlock ProtecTint is only available overseas and not available in the US. We are now looking into seeing if we can become a retailer in the US. Thank you for putting that on our radar. Nov 15, 2011

A shopper asked: I was hoping to purchase a clear pinlock shield, a clear pinlock lens for night, and a dark smoke lens for sunny days. I was thinking it would be easier to swap the lenses rather than the shield. The problem I have with swapping shields is, the shield seems to need re-adjusting for air leaks after the swap. That might be impractical in the field isn't it? Plus the lens might be easier to "tote" around since its smaller? Any suggestions? Mar 14, 2013

Frank C asked: Do you have any plans in the near future to stock the other types of lenses for the pinlock system? I see that you are looking into the Protectint for the Shoei CW-1 shield, but I was wondering about the light smoke, dark smoke, and yellow lenses. I see they are available in Europe for the Shoei CW-1 faceshield. I hope to see them on the site soon! Oct 14, 2013
