Shoei CWR-1 Pinlock Ready Faceshield for RF-1200 Helmets

The CWR-1 Pinlock Face Shield provides a vast field of vision that rivals other face shields. In addition to protecting against 99% of the sun’s damaging UV rays, the CWR-1 face shield offers a distortion-free view throughout the entire range thanks to Shoei's 3D injection-molding process. Additionally, innovative new ribs on the top and bottom edge of the shield improve rigidity and eliminate the bending that may occur from wind pressure and during the opening and closing process, and an improved shield locking mechanism rounds out Shoei's most advanced shield system to date.

Optional Shoei CWR-1 Pinlock Lens available.

Shoei CWR-1 Pinlock-Ready Face Shield 4.6 5 138 138
Great visibility I bought the yellow tinted visor and it provides great visibility. It's not designed to shield the sun, but at dusk, at night, or any other time during the day, it offers better visibility than the clear tinted shield. November 23, 2015
Dark smoke I've got the Dark Smoke shield and it is not that dark, it's about 35% (window tint shade percentage). However looks good once on the helmet. Quality is pretty good, more thick than other shields (from other brands). Be aware that you should always use the pinlock lens insert to prevent fogging while riding at low speed (near to stop or during heavy traffic) and about 60ºF or less. November 18, 2015
Fits Perfect I bought two of the dark smoke shields for our new RF 1200 helmets. They fit perfect and were very quick and easy to change. November 16, 2015
Easy install and nice overall I got the dark smoke which reduced the sunlight quite a bit. However, I wish they had a version that was a little darker as I still find this to be too light (reason for 4 stars instead of 5). I need to keep sunglasses with me for very sunny days. The install is very easy and quick as most Shoei face shields are. It has the pin lock feature which is nice, although I probably won't use it as I keep a clear shield with me that has the pin lock insert for rainy days. November 16, 2015
Not as dark as I hoped for. Even though it's dark smoke, the sun will definitely get through. Almost blinds me, I have to tilt my head down a little bit so the top of my helmet is shielding me from the sun's ray. :( I wish they also made the mirror kind of reflective for this helmet. The spectre version doesn't look like it blocks any sun as well... boo..... November 11, 2015
Would recommend. I've had the smoked mirror shield for about 3 months now, very easy to replace on the RF 1200, the mirror coating is pretty durable but can be scuffed/scratched off if you're not careful. September 21, 2015
Wish it was a little darker, but.... A+. Ordered the dark smoke, and love it. Although, with my sensitive eyes I wear my sunglasses underneath. Perfect fit on my helmet. Pinlock works fine. No problems with shipping. Very satisfied. September 14, 2015
Not the darkest, but it works and looks cool. I didn't need to buy this, because my sunglasses fit perfectly under my clear shield. In fact, I knew buying a separate dark smoke shield would complicate things, because I'd have to swap shields when the sun goes down, rather than just remove my sunglasses. So why did I get it? Easy, because dark shields look cool as F! The dark smoke shield, despite being Shoei's darkest tint, is not as dark as my S&S one. This is fine though; it stretches the usability further into the evening hours, and I still only have to squint if I'm riding directly into the sun. This is a good buy if you want a dark shield for your Shoei. My only gripe is that the price is a little steep for something you don't necessarily need, especially if you add a Pinlock insert. A shopper asked: Spectra lens colors - what optical difference is there between the silver, gold and blue? For example, the following relate to lens color. I have had yellow and liked it but considering blue for aesthetic reasons.

Yellow/Contrast Amber Lens – absorbs Blue and Ultraviolet light. Use a Contrast Amber lens when sharpness, acuity and contrast are needed and to block high intensity blue lighting such as UV and in Curing Operations. Good for working outside at Dawn and Dusk

Silver - Use to reduce glare and/or to decrease visible brightness. Can still recognize traffic and warning signals. Provides good color recognition (utility workers and linespeople)

Bl;ue - Eliminates glare, eye stress, and fatigue often occurring in monochromatic (single color) yellow lit environments. Useful as a general glare reducer in work environment where there is strong glare from bright lighting

A shopper asked: Will this shield work with the Shoei RF 1200? I'm thinking about buying the dark smoke for the RF-1200, how is the visibility at night time? May 26, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Eyon K: Yes - compatible for RF 1200.
This will be very dark at night making visibility more difficult, even on well lit city streets.
You may wish to consider CWR-1 Transitions shield. I really like mine. Dark enough during the day (except for when riding directly into the sun), and clear at night.
Hope this helps!

If it's a future item, when will it be released?

Ron A: They have in insert the Photochromic /Trans but this one is new but there is no ETA on the release just waiting on Shoei this will be better because the insert don't get dark enough for me but soon as you get that email jump on it a lot of people want it but I can't wait to try it Feb 26, 2014

Michael H: No, not for the RF-1200 yet. Called the local SF Shoei rep, and she said she doesn't know when to be expecting that shield. I figured they would put it out the day I got my smoke shield from RZ for mine, but I got it last week, and still no transitions. Feb 26, 2014

Yvonne P: I can not find it either. The page for the helmet does say there is a photochromic/transition visor for the helmet, but when you click on the visor it is only for the 1100 series. Still waiting for the 1200 series visor to come out. Feb 26, 2014

Charles Gabriel C asked: So what's the difference between the normal faceshield that comes with the helmet RF-1200, the pinlock faceshield, and the pinlock lens?

Do I have to get both pinlock faceshield and lens if I want a dark smoke faceshield?
Dec 7, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Anthony F: Charles, it is my understanding that when you purchase a new rf 1200 the pinlock system comes with it. The system is a silicone lens that adheres to the inside of the shield. Not sure what the function is but guessing it stops fogging of the shield. There is a warning on the system that it shouldn't be used at night. Since I am in florida and fogging is not a big problem I haven't installed it so I can't attest to its functionality. Hope this helped Dec 7, 2013
Reply to Anthony Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
Heather W: I bought the dark face shield and moved the pin lock insert from the clear one over to the dark one. If you don't want to have to switch back and forth to get the anti-fog, I'd suggest ordering another insert as well. If you're good with just having one shield anti-fog ready, no need to purchase another insert. Dec 9, 2013
Reply to Heather Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
wilder m: All the pinlock does is hook up to the face-shield and provide its function which is to not fog up.

If you want a dark smoke face-shield you can simply buy the face-shield or if you want it not to fog up and don't want to change the pin-locks all the time, purchase another pin-lock.

Elliott w asked: Can the light smoke or mellow smoke be used safely at night? I live in a suburban/semi-urban area. Aug 13, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Chalmer B: I hate to be wishy washy, but my answer is "It depends." I have extreme sensitivity to bright light. I wear prescription sunglasses, and use the dark smoke during the daytime. When I ride at night, in town, I typically switch to my clear glasses but leave the dark smoke shield on to reduce headlight glare. If I'm in the country, and traffic is light, I switch to the clear shield as well. Hope this helps! Sep 7, 2015
Reply to Chalmer Good answer? Yes (1) No (0)
Joshua A: It's not something anyone can 100% answer for you. I live in the South and used my bike during the summer. I have rode easily at night with the dark smoke lens, however it's not suggested for obvious reasons. The darker lenses function by blocking some light, so I would never suggest to ride at night with them, but I wouldn't say it's impossible or difficult either. Oct 9, 2015
Reply to Joshua Good answer? Yes (1) No (0)
Jonathan Y: The light smoke is fine for suburban/semi-suburban night riding. However, I've noticed riding in the daytime I can still get a pretty good sunburn. Oct 3, 2015
Reply to Jonathan Good answer? Yes (1) No (0)
John W: I have all 3 smoked visors: mellow, light, and dark. In a suburban area like in Houston where it's well lit, I have gotten away with the mellow smoke (it's a very light tint) at night. Usually I ride with the clear at night, the mellow smoke for very cloudy and gloomy days, the light smoke for regular cloudy days, and dark smoke for the brightest and clearest days. Nov 7, 2015

Victor . asked: I was thinking of getting either the blue mirror or dark smoke. How well do these two prevent your face from being seen (for aesthetic reasons of course) and what are the benefits/ cons of either? Thanks for answering! May 22, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Bruce G: I have the dark smoke. For the most part it will completely obscure your face, it just looks like a black shield from observers, unless you are in bright, direct sunlight and then your face can be faintly seen. I imagine the blue mirror would obscure your face completely in all conditions.

The cons are they don't work well in dusk or dark.
May 22, 2015

Eyon K: Blue mirror totally prevents your face from being seen. And it's a very cool looking shield. I have the blue mirror, gold mirror, clear, dark smoke, and transitions. Agreed that mirrors make visibility more difficult in dusk (sunset) and at night. May 27, 2015

Anthony F: The dark smoke will prevent your face from being seen. Not sure about the blue mirror. The Pinlock system is not recomended use with mirrored or tinted face shields. May 25, 2015

Ryan C: I found the dark smoke to be dark and have too much reflection (cause of the pin lock). I haven't tried it at night without the pin lock, but SHOEI also recommends not to use the pin lock at night. Aug 22, 2014

Dennis S asked: Do these face shields come with pin-lock pins installed? Are extra pin-lock pins included? Nov 15, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Gerard D: The shield has pin locks mounted in the shield as shown in the photo to accommodate the pin lock fog lens inserts you have to buy separately. No extra pin locks come with the shields. I bought the transition lens shield for my Shoei 1200 which I recommend although expensive, I purchased a clear lens insert to reduce the fog and very happy with the shield. Nov 22, 2015

-good clarity.
-awesome look.
-I haven't use the pin lock lense with it because my shoie RF 1200 vents well.

-tint is good, but when riding into the sun, darker tint would be nice

Eyon K: I have the gold mirror, blue mirror, clear, dark smoke, and transitions. None are quite dark enough for me when riding directly into the sun in southern California. When riding into the sun, I also put on a pair of Revo polarized sunglasses. May 27, 2015

Matt C asked: If I were to order the CWR-1 dark smoke would I also have to order the Pinlock lens insert in order to get the fog free effect or does the whole shield come that way? Dec 28, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Tchon M: You would have to order the Fog Free also, but a good anti-fog spray works the best anyways. They say you need to remove the Fog insert for night riding due to glare and that is a pain in the A$# Feb 25, 2014

Jamie S: It does not come with a pinlock lens insert. I have been using mine without it and it has not fogged, yet. As the temperature drops I'm sure it will though. Jan 2, 2014
