I got this helmet on the advice of my Nephew who has owned or used a dozen or so Helmets. He was right on. The flexibility of being able to remove teh front chin piece and face shield quickly and easily to covert to a 3/4 is fantastic here in Texas. Even with the full face shield , it move good air via the top, chin and "relief" vents. I agree with the reviews that the rear vent should be permanently open however. The dents on the face shield are a nice touch. I found it to be a bit snug on my cheek bones but with the pump, it should fit a wide variety of face types. It is "wearing in" very nicely and gets more comfortable with each mile ridden. Great Style, Function, and Value!!!!

The Blue EC is a mirrored shield that looks blue-ish to anyone looking at you. I was worried that everything I look at would be blue, but that is NOT the case. All the rider sees is a darker version of everything viewable - in other words, it's like wearing regular sunglasses. It is nearly impossible for anyone to see your eyes/ face with this shield on so if you like to stare into cars around you then this is your shield. A mirrored/ colored shield, like this one, makes your helmet look 10x cooler AND it will help you stay cooler than the standard pull-down visor that is on the EXO-900. Therefore, I definitely recommend this product, especially if you have a blue bike! Also, check out the pic I posted and you'll see it's not as blue as you might think.

Answer:
I know that Shoei shields and Bell shields block UV-rays, and was pretty certain that Scorpion did as well. That kind of coating is pretty much an industry standard. If the clear shield is not giving you much protection, then I would definitely switch to a tinted shield. Even with UV protection, you'll still end up tanning/burning with too much exposure. I know I always get interesting sun lines around where my sunglasses go!Age: 25-34
