Works fine It is a bit of a pain getting it in and out of the half pocket in my jacket every time I put it on or take it off, but other than that it stays fine while I'm zipped up. I bought a jacket one size larger to accommodate for the L1 and the G2 back protector, and everything fits well and is comfortable. If you have a Dianese jacket with the insert pocket, this is the way to go. April 22, 2013
Stylish and great protection This chest protector is awesome! Typical Dainese style and the best protection. I have the thorax as well and wanted this one for track days as I thought it would have more movement and flex. I was right!! Definitely recommend the L1 for the track. Plus the quality materials and comfort was more than I was expecting. March 27, 2013
Good protection at the expense of comfort This chest protector is very easy to install and remove from the Dainese jacket. It offers good protection and it is lightweight. It is not that comfortable however and does not conform to your body that well. The feel is a bit odd since it "bulges" out quite a bit. I'm using a Medium size in my 52 Dainese Avro. I can only compare it to what Alpinestars offer. I like how Alpinestars chest protector is actually two pieces and feels more comfortable, but I think this Dainese chest protector would offer more protection of your sternum. I wouldn't ride without it, but I wish Dainese had a more comfortable option. March 27, 2013

Answer:
The L1 is not replacing the Thorax. Basically, the L1 meets CE Level 1 parameters and the Thorax further exceeds the Level 1 requirements.

Answer:
No. Just 2 different designs. The L1 I think is more focused on track riders. Less protection but more movement for the rider. I have only seen racers use the L1, for years. Like Rossi and Guy Martin. I have never seen pro riders use the thorax. I think the thorax is more focused on sit up road riding although I have both and have used the thorax on track no problem

Answer:
The Dainese L1 Chest Protector is actually a little smaller than the Thorax. However, Dainese designed the L1 to fit the Thorax pockets in their jackets. So you will be able to easily fit the L1 into a Thorax pocket.

I have a US size 42 Dainese Alien jacket and the medium L1 is a tight squeeze, but it just fits it the thorax pocket.
