Love my Alien Jacket After passing on the Alien for a couple years I finally decided to pull the trigger and get one. Took a ride yesterday after the UPS man dropped it off. It was 98 degrees ( too hot for leather jacket riding). I would normally be wearing my Dainese Air Flux in this kind of heat but since I just got my Alien had to give it a go. I get going out of my neighborhood and I could feel the air flow at 30 mph which was impressive. The interstate isn't far and once I hit cruising speeds (65-75 mph) the jacket is really breathing. This thing would be perfect in 70's or 80's. The jacket is very stylish and comfortable. It wears a bit on the large side. I'm just over 200 43 inch chest and a 54 has a relaxed fit. I could have went down to a 52 but it would be snug. I have a Super Speed size 54 and it has a very aggressive race fit and its perfect. The Alien is a beautiful jacket. Upon my inspection of my newly received jacket I notice a scratch/scuff on the shoulder slider. Its not terrible but I noticed it right away. I called Revzilla and we worked it out right away. If something goes wrong ZLA makes it right. Thanks for running an honest business. I really got what I wanted from this jacket and can't wait to see what Dainese will come out with for 2014. Great Premium Jacket I purchased the Jacket a few weeks back, and I've taken it to a couple of longish trips. The fit of the jacket is impressive. The leather is so soft, yet you can tell the level of protection is there. The smell of the leather is worthy just by itself. It's awesome. I purchased both the back (Air G2 L2) and the thorax protectors. I "justified" purchasing this jacket as a replacement to my Wave WT armor (too cumbersome). So, I used both protectors all the time. The weather in Nicaragua is 75F to 96F (24C to 36C), and the humidity goes from 55% to 70%. So, it's very humid and hot. The jacket does let airflow through. I've been wearing it on a K1200LT, so the windscreen blocks the airflow, but I've stood up in the footpegs, and you can feel the airflow on the jacket. I also bought the Dainese Delta Pro EVO Estivo pants. Let me tell you, people gets very impressed by the outfit. Its so classy, and almost outlandish. Yes, I love this jacket. I'm selling all my previous jackets to buy more Dainese. June 17, 2013
Great jacket Slightly tight fit but that's because of the tough leather, so it's good protection, hopefully will wear in a bit. May 20, 2013
Best Jacket EVER! I am 6 feet and weigh 220 pounds. I was recently told that I was built like Wolverine. Broad shoulders, barrel chested and big arms. I like to lift Kettlebells... Heavy Kettlebells! I went with a 58 and feel like I have room for add on protection, but its not sloppy without. After I put it on for the first time, I was like... Woah, did they make this just for me? It's snug, yet roomy and provides the most insane feeling of Ahhhhh when you slide it on. This is some serious quality, and have had friends mention that they didn't know leather could feel like this. When you buy your jacket, you want four things; comfort, Check! fit, Check! protection, Check! and style, Check! speaking of armor... I was a bit disappointed at this price point it is NOT included, but not the end of the world.. it does have forearm, elbow and shoulder protection built in but is removeable. Quality throughout, the 3d bubble liner is fantastic and the attention to detail is unmatched! I could go on and on, but instead of you reading this review, click the "order" button and see for yourself. April 30, 2013
Alien Great jacket, features and fit are great. Had to get a 54 because of my shoulders, only thing that I dislike is the forearm size down by the wrists. Wish that it could tapper down a little sharper, using gauntlet gloves makes it a little uncomfortable. But over all feel of the leather is great and comfort levels are what you pay for. Great jacket. April 22, 2013
Great Jacket This is a high quality jacket that offers great protection and looks awesome. I am 5'11", 175# and ordered a size 54. Little large, but I want to be able to put a couple of layers underneath it. Highly recommend all Dainese products! April 1, 2013
You get what you pay for... enough said I will start out by saying that worry came over me spending $700 on a jacket without trying it on. There aren't any shop around me that have a decent selection much less any jackets except for a local ducati dealership (RedlineMotors) but there all ducati branded. The jacket fits like a glove, I'm 6' 225 lbs and purchased a size 58. When opening the box you'll first get a smell of high grade leather which is equal to new corvette seats but a lot thicker leather. The bubble liner inside the jacket is just perfect, everything about the jackets screams high quality protection. March 18, 2013
Great overall jacket. Consider it. Great styling, excellent materials, what else is there? I bought the perf version, and mine has the cool red collar (black/red/white). It vents air very well. I initially wanted to use it 3-season (Spring, Summer, Fall), but I love it so much, that I wanted to use it during the winter too. So I add a liner, either Gore-tex Performance Shell or a windproof-only one (Windstopper-like), and a down jacket with a thin base layer, and voila, 4-season functionality. I lost a little weight, wasn't fat to begin with, so now it's about one size too large. But that makes it perfect for layering, bonus! I have a 42" chest now, but I bought a size 56. It's a bit large, a bit squarish. I probably should be in a 54 but if I wanted a tighter fit maybe a 52. Revzilla(?) says that the 56, 58, and 60 are a more comfortable cut, i.e. beer-belly? Maybe the smaller sizes are more athletic? I use the thorax pocket as a general pocket. I wish it had a chest pocket. I'm buying a Wave back protecter, but I can't comment on that yet. I use an Arai XD-3 helmet, but when I do a traffic check, I bang the shoulder area and it limits my view. Either the helmet is too long, or the exposed armor plates are too large, or both. Slight nick for that. It's probably the helmet I chose. The exposed aluminum skid plates are just my style. Overall, a great jacket. Highly recommended. The Avro also suits my style. Check it out too. January 30, 2013

A shopper asked: How good is the air flow through this jacket? During May-Sept Most afternoons here are 90+ degrees with high humidity. How well does this jacket breathe? I noticed there is little/no perforation on the back, where as the rebel has quite a lot. I'm torn between the two, as the rebel looks like it is more breathable, but also looks more like a track jacket, and not a street jacket. Apr 22, 2011

Moto: Liber, the jacket breathes very well in my experience; exceptionally well in fact, into the mid-70s, which is the warmest weather we've had this year in NYC. I'm not apprehensive about wearing the Alien jacket on the street when the temps climb into the 90s, as long as I'm moving. That said, I've not tried the Rebel. I would check if the Rebel has the 3D bubble liner, which works surprisingly well.

You're correct that the back itself isn't perforated, however there is stretch fabric under and around the arms and the sides are perforated and I think that's where most of the airflow would exit even if the back were perforated. My back has never become sweaty wearing the Alien, even when wearing a backpack.

ddd269: It definitely breathes well... I rode with this jacket on a 80* weather and felt very comfortable with a long high tech thermal undershirt underneath. I ride my bike to work in the mornings in the low 60* and it can get a bit chilly. The good thing is that I can feel the air throughout my torso instead of just in the perforated area, like in other jackets. It must have something to do with the liner material (bubble type) that makes it distribute the air evenly. It will work great as long as you're moving. Oct 19, 2011

AugCarr: This is definitely a "near-track" jacket. I wear it for street riding, but bought it for the level of protection. There is very little perf. on this jacket, but the collar and sleeve openings allow for a lot of air flow. I find I can wear this jacket up to around 90 or 95 degrees depending on the ride (commute with slow-and-go is hotter) and the humidity. Under 95, I find it very comfortable to about the 60's, then starts to get chilly. Jun 14, 2011

Walknbos: I have the perf version - it breathes really well for the protection it provides - it is perfed on sides and S3 black fabric moves a lot a air - it is on the back of shoulder blades acting as hidden vents. Yes you will get hot at a stop light with 90 plus degrees but once going it really cools down. It work almost as good as my mesh jacket, but offers way more protection. This is really well made jacket. Sep 5, 2011

Chris K: This jacket does vent very well for a leather jacket. If you are looking for something that flows more air, I would take a look at textile/mesh jackets like the Dainese Shotgun. Especially for a climate over 90 degrees. Apr 26, 2011

A shopper asked: Is there a big difference in temperature regulation between version perforated and non-perforated?
I live in Quebec and we have those rather cool days.

Thank you!

Moltar: For a cooler climate, the non-perforated jacket is going to be your better choice. Think of it like wearing a jacket. If you are outside during cooler temps, your going to want to keep the air out and not allow it in. The air that is trapped around your body is what keeps you warm. If you allow that to escape via the perforated leather, that thermal barrier that the jacket was supposed to provide is no longer there. Jan 9, 2012

Mitchell K.: You could use a windbreaker like a klim revolt pullover to extend the seasonality of the jacket. But I wear a reflective vest most of the time and it helps me to be seen and keeps me warmer with my Portland two jacket. I will also throw a second layer on. But if is real cold 20s then I probably don't want to ride, but never gets that cold in SoCal. Jan 16, 2012

bimmerdog: Perforated will be colder then non perforated in the winter. Perforated in the winter will let the cold wind come through the jacket. Perforated is a must to have in the summer. If you have to wear a perforated jacket in the winter you need to wear some thing under neath to help with the cold air coming in. Hope this answers your question. Jan 7, 2012

Fred T.: Not the exact same jacket but I'm your exact size 5'11" 175 and wear the Dainese New Newson in size 54 and I wear it with the Dainese back protector and chest protector.
It's a good fit for me.

ADVJason: Based on your chest measurement we would recommend a size 54. The jackets are designed and sized to work with accessory protection pieces, so you should not have to size up to accommodate them. Dec 7, 2011
