Alpinestars GP-R Leather Jacket 4.9 5 89 89
Fantastic jacket for the price, and flows tons of air! Love my GP-R! I picked up the black + white in a size 48 EU (US 38), and it fits like a glove. I'm 5'10", 165, athletic build. Leather is light but not thin, and the perf scheme is great. Better than my Dainese Laguna Seca suit, which is saying a lot - this jacket flows so much air. Great for the SoCal heat! Thankfully I haven't been down in the jacket, but the armor is in just the right places and doesn't move around at all, both on and off the bike. 3/4 zip to attach to leather pants. All good. Deducted a style point for way too many bright white A-Stars logos. A reflective black on black "stealth" option would be fantastic. I dig the lack of a hump as well - makes the GP-R a great commuting jacket, as I can throw my loaded backpack on the back with no discomfort or awkwardness at all. August 8, 2014
Great looking jacket that protects too I love the jacket, I'm 5'11 180 lbs. at first I ordered size 52 which was small and uncomfortable. Thanks to the folks at revzilla I was able to exchange with no problems for a size 54 and it now feels great on me. Has protection and padding and still let's a good amount of air through to cool you down, even on those hot days of me riding in LA. May 13, 2014
Has to be worn to be appreciated After countless hours of research, reviews, sampling, and testing. I settled on this jacket. I ordered a leather jacket instead of textile for safety purposes. A new jacket is cheaper than medical bills and skin grafts. The jacket is heavy and durable, the stitching is superb and the fit is spot on to the size chart. I'm 6'-0" 210 and have a 44.5" chest and this jacket in a 56 fit perfectly. It's a little warm when not moving as others have said but is very comfortable. I'll be upgrading it with the back armor asap. The shoulder armor, elbow and forearm armor sits comfortably and gives some confidence if anything were to ever go wrong. The colors are fantastic and match the kawi 300 perfectly. If you're looking for a sturdy well built jacket A*s does not disappoint with this one. April 17, 2014
Great jacket! I couldn't buy this jacket in Australia due to the local distributor not ordering it. I wanted it because it had some subtle green as opposed to the really loud jackets out there that you can get. It fits really well as you'd expect from alpinestars, my only preference is for a slightly tighter cuff as I want to wear my gloves over it - but I don't have huge wrists so I think if you have average wrists it'd be perfect. Great strength & quality as always from this brand. April 14, 2014
Perfect on a warm day I've been using this jacket since January. It's been a warm winter here in Phoenix so I've been able to test the jacket in everything from 55-85 degree temps and I'm happy. A little chilly below 60 due to the lack of a liner but this can be solved by wearing something long sleeved underneath. Toward the upper end of that range, the jacket moves enough air to be comfortable but at low speeds or in traffic it starts to get a bit warm. I can imagine it getting quite warm on really hot days even with the airflow but I'm hoping it's tolerable, I'd rather have the protection of leather than have to go back to using mesh. This is my first perf jacket so I don't have any comparison to offer, but it flows enough air over the chest that I almost feel like I've got nothing on over my t-shirt! Quality is top notch, and while I have never tested it's safety/durability (and hope I never do) it leaves me feeling confident I'll be protected in a crash. Super stylish in the black and white, love how this looks! Fit is a bit snug as with most A* products. Loving this jacket! March 16, 2014
Amazing Jacket for the Price! This was/is my first Alpinestars full leather jacket and I can't stress enough how satisfied I am w/it. Hi quality leather w/tons of perforation to keep me cool during warm/hot days. Armor rests perfectly over my shoulders, elbows & back w/out discomfort or feeling too "stiff". If I lived in a colder climate I would probably not be able to wear this jacket in the winter w/out substantial base layers because the jacket is heavily perforated. Also, the reflective embroidered "Alpinestars" logo on the forearms are a great safety addition that allows you to be more visible to cars when you are night riding. Another cool part of this jacket is the extended back that covers your low back while riding. Inner liner can be removed if needed, as well as all armor. Overall, top quality piece of gear here. Worth every penny The Jacket has great protection. I love the look in the red white and black. Ive always felt that the gear is part of the experience in bike riding. This jacket helped me to relax more since I know im protected.. Great jacket.. Just take the time to see what your fit is in the sizing chart.. enjoy your jacket.. November 4, 2013
Very Stylish and Excellent Jacket! I had this jacket for almost two weeks now. I have to say that this is a great jacket. Air flow is amazing. There is so much perforation on this jacket. I still get hot when I'm stationary on, after all, it is a leather jacket. Fit is a little small; it's more like a race jacket fit. I bought this jacket mainly because of it's style. The Jaws offers more features than this one and it's for a similar price but I think that this is more stylish than the Jaws jacket. I wish this had come with a thermal liner like the Jaws does but I don't mind it. The other drawback is that I wish the wrist strap was Velcro instead of a button because I can't expand the circumference of the wrist. It's a little uncomfortable but I manage by not zipping the wrist zippers all the way. I also wished it had some micro elastication on the elbow area but movement and flexibility is still fine. Other than that it's a great jacket. October 6, 2013

RevZilla Store asked: Why did you choose this?
Richard H: John , the person I was on the phone with.... Super helpful! He told me he would take care of me if it was the wrong size. Why go anywhere else! Sep 8, 2014
Thomas D: For great protection. But I wouldn't buy it again because it was waaayyy to hot in the summer and leather jacket is mega heavy compared to the textile. If you're going to do the riding required to use this chances are you're going to have or want to be in a suit. So just by a textile for riding around town in and a suit for aggressive and track days. Sep 7, 2014

A shopper asked: I have asked this same question about the Alpinestars Jaws (I am currently going back and forth between the two): What is the length of the front of the jacket? I heard the jaws was 20.5 inches from top to bottom in the front. Would anyone mind shedding some light to the length of the GP-Rs front length.

Thanks!

RevZilla: The front length of the Alpinestars GP-R Leather Jacket varies with the size of the jacket. A size 52 GP-R jacket is approximately 21.5 inches from the to of the collar to the bottom of the jacket (measured on the front).

The same measurement on a size 52 Jaws jacket is approximately 20 inches.

LowRes: MrClean,

I have similar measurements and I was most comfortable in a 56 in that jacket (just tried some on this weekend).

Arms are always short for me but I'm 6'2" with longer arms. I would stay stick with Astars or Dianese for your build (larger shoulders and smaller waist). These two manufacturers tend to have the most aggressive shoulder to waist taper.

A shopper asked: I am approximately 6'3 with a 36 inch chest, 31 inch waist, and 38 inch hips, what size jacket would best fit me? Feb 7, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Ty A: A small is going to fit your frame, with the exception of your height. This jacket does have a little tail in the back that helps, but it may come up short for you.

A*'s is more for us "fat" Americans, they're a bit more forgiving with those of us with some extra inches. With your build I would be looking more toward a Dainese if you can afford it. You have a tall, slim build like most Italians. Your jacket needs to be a pretty snug fit to ensure that the pads and protection remain in their proper place should you meet Lady Pavement.

Long story short. If you are set on this jacket, buy the SM. If you want a bit more room, MD. Just remember, your protection shouldnt be easily moved around. My recommendation would be a Dainese, again, if you can swing it. I probably wasnt terribly helpful, but I do hope this helps.

Nikolaus R: I am approximately 5'9" with a 38inch chest. I wear a size 50 (Euro size). I would suggest a size 54 or 56 it may be a little bigger in the chest, but it would fit down to your waist line. Feb 7, 2014

A shopper asked: How does the Alpine Stars GP-R Jacket compare to the Atem Jacket? Aug 19, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Todd W: That is a good question. The fit and quality of the GPR is nice. The GPR does not have Hump on the back. It is warm to me above 85 degrees. The Atem is replacement for the Tech 1 R. The Atem and Tech 1 R are upper halves of their One Piece Suits. The GPR is not. I hope this info helps.

The Alpinestars line up
Race Replica
Atem / Tech 1 R
GP Pro
are their lineups for Race suits.

The Tech 1 R "Jacket" I believe has a different liner that helps with cooling. It has more protection, and race hump. The Atem is the replacment of the Tech 1 R Jacket.

Michael Jason B: I've never worn the Atem jacket. But from the looks of it that Atem jacket, It should have more arm flexibility in the front part of the jacket. It also looks to be more of a snug fit than the GP-R. GP-R is a great jacket, but kinda movement restricting, Also the inner lining of the jacket is not removable so when it's hot its extra hot. Aug 20, 2013
A shopper asked: Anthony, wich base layers would you recomend to extend the riding season of this jacket? I live in patagonia (argentina) and it can be really cold some times without been winter. Thanks. Aug 10, 2013

Leilany B: I've ridden in this jacket down to 20 degrees F. Under the jacket I had in a Underarmour Base layer, which is their warmest winter line. I believe I had on a 2.0 base layer which is similar to flannel pajama material. It's snug fitting, not compression. On top of the base layer I had on a typical 40 degree F. weather thickness sweat shirt..

I hope this helps make your decision. Great summer jacket, and with just a little bit of added base layer it can be a winter jacket as well. Obviously you will need to size the jacket correctly if you know you want to layer up underneath.

Randy E: In my experience the best cold weather base layer is Under Armour Base 4.0, top or bottom. When the temps are not so extreme the ColdGear Mock-T and bottoms work well. I normally buy the "Fitted" sizing in tops and order one size up because I prefer a little looser garment than their "Compression" sizing. Aug 12, 2013

A shopper asked: I've been getting conflicting answers concerning this question so once again I turn to RevZilla for answers! I'd like to replace the foam in my size (Euro) 54 jacket with the bio armor or bionic air armor to replace the foam slip in piece. I already have a 'race' back protector that straps to your chest so I just want to put a slip in model. Thank you! Mar 2, 2013

A shopper asked: I am living in Seattle. During the summer time the average high temperature around 73F and average low temperature around 54F. I want to ask is Alpinestars GP-R Leather Jacket good for these kind of weather. Jan 10, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
LazT: Just bought a GP-R myself. I'm in North Georgia and our weather the past two months has been ranging 40-65 degrees. anything under 60 degrees and you will definitely need layers and or a liner. I would recommend a non perf version or take a look at the new 2013 Astars lineup. I think some come with liners for cooler days. Jan 29, 2013
Reply to LazT Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: As the GP-R Leather Jacket is perforated, we find it suited to temperatures consistently above 70 degrees Fahrenheit. For a temperature range of 50-70 F, we would instead recommend the non-perforated GP Plus Leather Jacket, since it will block more wind than a perforated leather jacket. Jan 10, 2013

A shopper asked: I live in the UK, we have a lot of dreary weather and i recently got this jacket, love it, ride it with the knox metasys back protector, comfy, makes me feel safe. kstorm21: NO! It has a windproof liner for only the chest part. I really did wish it had a waterproof liner. In Hawaii it rains a lot too. :( If you get it, I'd recommend a rain suit or jacket. A* has a nice one you throw over it like a windbreaker. Dec 29, 2012

A shopper asked: Will this jacket zip up to Dianese Alien Leather Pants? Jul 14, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: The connection zipper from an Alpinestars Jacket would only work with Alpinestars Pants. Generally, each brand will use its own gauge/size zipper on all of their products. However, almost every pair of pants will come with the female end of the connection zipper (and if it does not you can get one from the manufacture or a fabric store). One would need to take the female end of that zipper, along with their jacket and pants, to a seamstress/tailor and it would be a simple modification to sew the female end of the zipper into the jacket. This would then allow the user to connect the pants and jacket from two different brands. Jul 17, 2012
