Alpinestars GP-R Perforated Leather Jacket 4.9 5 112 112
Solid Quality The Alpinestars GP-R perforated jacket seems to have a high build quality, with heavy, thick leather. The perforations allow excellent air flow, even to the arms, which isn't something I had noticed in my textile A* jacket. The armor is sturdy, and the shoulder sliders look good without looking ridiculous. I do wish it came with the front and back armor instead of just the soft foam, but I've gone down in a A* jacket that just had the soft foam for the chest and back and my chest and back were fine. I haven't ridden with it in extreme hot or extreme cold, but so far I have been impressed. The neck of the jacket is pretty high and pretty close fitting, but the neoprene (I think) surrounding the neck opening is comfortable after a few rides. April 30, 2015
Great Price for a high quality Leather Jacket The brand talks itself. I found this jacket on Revzilla at a perfect price. For California weather, this jacket is perfect. It is perforated and gets enough amount of air. The built quality of the jacket is great. Very stylish design and you feel you're protected well. I also purchased extra protection pads for the back and front. For the price Revzilla has, this jacket is a steal and I highly recommend it! April 6, 2015
Everything I wanted in a jacket! I love this jacket! Everything about it works. It is very comfortable, and vents air very well. The fit is nice and snug and everything seems to be of high quality. April 6, 2015
First buy! First thing I had bought from revzilla and was worried that I wouldn't get the right sizing for me! But with all the videos on the jacket and how to size up, when the jacket arrived a week later I was so amazed at how it fitted so nice and snug! Last week a came off my bike was the biggest fall but I was proud to say that this jacket even though is a lightweight with awesome air flow for those hot days probably saved my arm from being a a bit of a wreck! So yes if you are buying your first jacket I would highly recommend this jacket! :) March 23, 2015
the best the best the best I love this jacket. fits great. good protection. very nice fit. feels good in warm weather. If u get hot just take a bandana dip it into some water and wrap around your neck to keep cool with the jacket on during the hot hot days. buy it youll love it brahh March 21, 2015
I love this jacket Perfect fit. Perfect airflow. Perfect bargain The compliments keep coming March 10, 2015
great price great jacket I love this jacket. It paired well with my SP-8 gloves. Little hot if you're not wearing the right layer under it, but it is comfortable and fit is great. March 3, 2015
extremely disappointed I purchased this jacket and was happy ut quickly start having issues with the zipper. It would not stay zipped from the bottom up and then started opening up in the middle while being zipped up. For 499 I expected a whole lot more so much for getting what you paid for. matthew h: I cannot say enough about this jacket. I happened to purchase this about 2 weeks before a pretty big accident. Back end came out, slid on asphalt, then off the road at 45mph into a guardrail and then under and off a rock embankment about 30 feet down.

broke my scapula and fractured 3 ribs from the impact, but i did not have a scratch on me. Best part of it all, the jacket is still in near perfect condition, theres like a 1" scratch you can barely see. I'm a fan for life.

Thomas D: For great protection. But I wouldn't buy it again because it was waaayyy to hot in the summer and leather jacket is mega heavy compared to the textile. If you're going to do the riding required to use this chances are you're going to have or want to be in a suit. So just by a textile for riding around town in and a suit for aggressive and track days. Sep 7, 2014

I am 42.5 inches for chest 32.5 inches for waist line and 29 inches for my arm!

A size 54 looks a bit better fitting but seems the arms might be a bit short ! :)
If anyone has any advice? I would love to hear from you !

David A: Hey Sam, Greetings from Australia.
I bought the 54EU from RZ and I have a 42 chest but my arms are only 24/25 measured from top of shoulder to wrist. Its a great fit on me and the best Jacket I've owned. Seems like you have long arms so I think you will have to go up a size. When in doubt go larger and they swap for free anyway if it doesn't fit.

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Patrick A: I have noticed after a few rides the pads in the shoulders and elbows seem to have found there place. They don't float around as much making slipping the jacket on a lot easier without all the repositioning of pads constantly. I would compare it to breaking in any coat or glove that will conform to your body after awhile. The more you wear it the better it feels. Mine was a bit tight in the shoulders and upper arms but is like a second skin now. Very comfortable.
I hope this helps you some what.

Melissa P: It really doesn't stretch much at all. The jacket is amazing! My boyfriend had a bike accident last year and the jacket did an amazing job at protecting him. Plus the jacket didn't have a mark on it! I highly recommend it. Dec 19, 2014

A shopper asked: I am about to purchase this jacket, Only problem I am having is that I am between sizes 52 and 54. How do I choose the right size?? I tried it at the store but can decide which size to choose. If it help I will be purchasing a back protector, maybe that will make a difference. Help anybody?? Nov 18, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Johnathan R: Well, Hope my 2 cents helps somewhat, This is really subjective as far as fit is concerned. I am size 54 on the DOT, 5'9'' 200 lbs muscular build for comparison info. I did buy a size 52 but after training for tough mudders, had to up size. This is my street jacket. You want to get it snug enough where after it breaks in, it is close to perfect. This will stretch a bit... but not alot. The back protector will take up some room. If its for street I would suggest a more relaxed fit, if its for track... you can go tighter as you don't want the leather to move too much in a slide/fall. Hope this helps Nov 18, 2014

Adam R: If you upgrade the back protector, go with the size 54 jacket. If you have more room, you can also add Alpinestars chest protector too. Should fit just fine! Nov 18, 2014

David A: I'd go the bigger if you are wearing a back protector. Anthony recons to add about half an inch for a back protector.

A shopper asked: I have asked this same question about the Alpinestars Jaws (I am currently going back and forth between the two): What is the length of the front of the jacket? I heard the jaws was 20.5 inches from top to bottom in the front. Would anyone mind shedding some light to the length of the GP-Rs front length.

Apr 13, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: The front length of the Alpinestars GP-R Leather Jacket varies with the size of the jacket. A size 52 GP-R jacket is approximately 21.5 inches from the to of the collar to the bottom of the jacket (measured on the front).

The same measurement on a size 52 Jaws jacket is approximately 20 inches.

LowRes: MrClean,

I have similar measurements and I was most comfortable in a 56 in that jacket (just tried some on this weekend).

Arms are always short for me but I'm 6'2" with longer arms. I would stay stick with Astars or Dianese for your build (larger shoulders and smaller waist). These two manufacturers tend to have the most aggressive shoulder to waist taper.

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Max K: No. It is perforated to let air in while riding. The same perforations will easily let water in. You would need a waterproof liner if you want to ride in the rain in this jacket. Mar 26, 2015

A S asked: I recently purchased this jacket from another website Revzilla sold out of my size lol. But my question is the jacket suppose to fit tight I am 5'9 140lbs slim guy and I went with a 38/48 based off the measurements on the chart or should I go with a 50 because i don't want it too tight? Feb 13, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Haydn F: Jackets stretch over time, imo you want it fairly tight at purchase. I'm 5'9 195lbs and 52 fits me comfortably. Properly fitted gear looks and works better (hopefully you never have to go sliding in it though!). If it's restricting your movement when you get it, just wear it for a day or 2 (off the bike) and that should make it nice and supple for your first ride. Feb 13, 2015

Joseph D: The jacket is supposed to fit snug enough that it wont twist/bunch up during an accident. This jacket does run small but shouldn't be preventing you from moving your arms or turning your head normally. Feb 13, 2015

A shopper asked: Brought this jacket from a different site because my size was sold out. I measured myself and order the 38/48 which is the smallest size I am a slim guy 5'9 140lbs. My question is the jacket suppose to be tight its mostly for me around the arm area. Is this normal or would I have to go to a 50? Feb 13, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Yer Y: I'm 5'6" and 160 pounds and I bought the size 50. It's a snug fit, but that's what I wanted. Arm length is about an inch long for me. If I raise my arms, there is constriction due to the armors. But in riding position, the jacket feels like a secondary skin. Mar 2, 2015

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Nikolaus R: I am approximately 5'9" with a 38inch chest. I wear a size 50 (Euro size). I would suggest a size 54 or 56 it may be a little bigger in the chest, but it would fit down to your waist line. Feb 7, 2014

Ty A: A small is going to fit your frame, with the exception of your height. This jacket does have a little tail in the back that helps, but it may come up short for you.

A*'s is more for us "fat" Americans, they're a bit more forgiving with those of us with some extra inches. With your build I would be looking more toward a Dainese if you can afford it. You have a tall, slim build like most Italians. Your jacket needs to be a pretty snug fit to ensure that the pads and protection remain in their proper place should you meet Lady Pavement.

Long story short. If you are set on this jacket, buy the SM. If you want a bit more room, MD. Just remember, your protection shouldnt be easily moved around. My recommendation would be a Dainese, again, if you can swing it. I probably wasnt terribly helpful, but I do hope this helps.

A shopper asked: How does the Alpine Stars GP-R Jacket compare to the Atem Jacket? Aug 19, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Todd W: That is a good question. The fit and quality of the GPR is nice. The GPR does not have Hump on the back. It is warm to me above 85 degrees. The Atem is replacement for the Tech 1 R. The Atem and Tech 1 R are upper halves of their One Piece Suits. The GPR is not. I hope this info helps.

The Alpinestars line up
Race Replica
Atem / Tech 1 R
GP Pro
are their lineups for Race suits.

The Tech 1 R "Jacket" I believe has a different liner that helps with cooling. It has more protection, and race hump. The Atem is the replacment of the Tech 1 R Jacket.

Michael Jason B: I've never worn the Atem jacket. But from the looks of it that Atem jacket, It should have more arm flexibility in the front part of the jacket. It also looks to be more of a snug fit than the GP-R. GP-R is a great jacket, but kinda movement restricting, Also the inner lining of the jacket is not removable so when it's hot its extra hot. Aug 20, 2013
A shopper asked: Anthony, wich base layers would you recomend to extend the riding season of this jacket? I live in patagonia (argentina) and it can be really cold some times without been winter. Thanks. Aug 10, 2013
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Leilany B: I've ridden in this jacket down to 20 degrees F. Under the jacket I had in a Underarmour Base layer, which is their warmest winter line. I believe I had on a 2.0 base layer which is similar to flannel pajama material. It's snug fitting, not compression. On top of the base layer I had on a typical 40 degree F. weather thickness sweat shirt..

I hope this helps make your decision. Great summer jacket, and with just a little bit of added base layer it can be a winter jacket as well. Obviously you will need to size the jacket correctly if you know you want to layer up underneath.
Aug 12, 2013

Randy E: In my experience the best cold weather base layer is Under Armour Base 4.0, top or bottom. When the temps are not so extreme the ColdGear Mock-T and bottoms work well. I normally buy the "Fitted" sizing in tops and order one size up because I prefer a little looser garment than their "Compression" sizing. Aug 12, 2013

A shopper asked: I've been getting conflicting answers concerning this question so once again I turn to RevZilla for answers! Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
LazT: Just bought a GP-R myself. I'm in North Georgia and our weather the past two months has been ranging 40-65 degrees. anything under 60 degrees and you will definitely need layers and or a liner. I would recommend a non perf version or take a look at the new 2013 Astars lineup. I think some come with liners for cooler days. Jan 29, 2013
Reply to LazT Good answer? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: As the GP-R Leather Jacket is perforated, we find it suited to temperatures consistently above 70 degrees Fahrenheit. For a temperature range of 50-70 F, we would instead recommend the non-perforated GP Plus Leather Jacket, since it will block more wind than a perforated leather jacket. Jan 10, 2013

James M: Depending on how much you weigh I would go with size 50 or 52. I'm 180 and 5'11 and 52 is good Mar 23, 2015

A shopper asked: On the white/black jacket is the red on the shoulders leather or like rubber? I was just curious to see if I would be able to dye that little part to match my bike. Jan 30, 2015

David A: I bought my W/B version a couple of years ago and the red is plastic.

A shopper asked: Question on Size/Fit: Wanted to try on the GP- R at a local Cycle Gear but at the time did not have it in stock was told by the associate there the GP Plus R fits the same. Can I get a size/fit confirmation on the GP-R? Thanks. Oct 13, 2014

John B: I haven't tried a plus, but I would go for it. I have two A stars in the same size and the fit is good. I suspect the plus to be a more aggressive fit while still being a fit. Oct 26, 2014

A shopper asked: Will this jacket zip up to Dianese Alien Leather Pants? Jul 14, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: The connection zipper from an Alpinestars Jacket would only work with Alpinestars Pants. Generally, each brand will use its own gauge/size zipper on all of their products. However, almost every pair of pants will come with the female end of the connection zipper (and if it does not you can get one from the manufacture or a fabric store). One would need to take the female end of that zipper, along with their jacket and pants, to a seamstress/tailor and it would be a simple modification to sew the female end of the zipper into the jacket. This would then allow the user to connect the pants and jacket from two different brands. Jul 17, 2012
