The A* Jacket for all
Why not the Jaws? The GPR? Or anything else, really?
It's simple, because this is a jacket you can rip through a Sunday drive in but still stop for lunch and not look like a power ranger. Because it *doesn't* have a thermal liner(LPT, unless it's full sleeve, it's useless), because it's cheaper and does the street sport jacket idea better than the GP R and Jaws, and cost $50 less. It's not here to change your life, but it'll get your fair weather riding done with all of the quality jacket features and bits you expect from A*'s, at a resonable price, and I can already tell I'm going to love it.

Style;
The list of conservatively styled blacked out sport jackets is very few, those < $6-700 even fewer. < $450? pretty sure the GP Plus has the market cornered, yes the A* logos are there, but it's noticeably devoid of any 'color for styling sake' nonsense really.

Feature/Comfort
Feature wise, it has what you need and little else. Most any sport jacket comes with a napoleon pocket and various other inner jacket pockets , a mesh liner, ect. Ventilation? it has that, that's why you're on the 'perforated' version page. Shoulder/forearm armor? it has that too. The neck and wrist areas are particularly more comfortable and seem to be a more 'velvet' type of material than A*'s jackets of the past, and the leather itself is extremely supple. For *your* pleasure of course.

Fitment;
A* is always a mixed bag for me. They're either ~ 1/4" too long in the cuff area or just right. The GP Plus R is the former, unfortunately it is very slightly too long, and wearing shortie gloves is a pain. Not impossible, but the jacket is best suited to a gauntlet style. I don't have abnormally long arms, and I'm 6' 1". Chest area has extra room but not enough to say go for a size up. I'm not particularly athletic or pudgy.

amazing product
I was wearing this jacket back in July 7th when a car pulled out in front of me, causing me to hit her and fly over. I was going ~65 MPH, and ended up about a hundred feet away from the scene of the accident. I went into a concussion so they had to take me to the hospital. I had no broken bones or road rash on my upper body. I'm PERFECTLY fine on my upper body. My feet were tore up and my legs. Nothing else! Thank you alpine stars for this amazing jacket. I will continue buying alpine stars products. 5/5 stars for sure.

LOVE this jacket!
This jacket is amazing and it is my favorite piece of riding gear. It has excellent ventilation and is extremely comfortable. It looks great, and I have the white/blue/black color combo and it is easy to keep clean (I was worried about this when ordering). It is also the perfect length to wear with or without riding pants. I wear mine with the Forcefield back protector and A* bionic chest protectors and you can't really event feel them.

I am 6'2", 200lbs athletic build (~44" chest) and the size 56 fits perfect. At first I thought it was a little snug and also ordered a 58 but the 56 was better and fit really well after 1 ride.

I highsided @ about 60mph on the track with this jacket on and it did an excellent job of protecting me and held up pretty well too with relatively little wear despite a decent slide.

Good looking, comfortable, functional, and expensive
This is the first motorcycle jacket i have owned, although i am unable to compare to other jackets i can let you know how it worked for me in the past year.

This product makes you feel like a superhero. I bought the Red/White/Black Version and i rarely do regret this purchase. If you are a weekend rider or a street bike enthusiast this jacket will fit your style perfectly.

The fit truly is relaxed and comfortable. I feel like it is the perfect fit for on and off the motorcycle, although if its summer it will get hot just walking around in it.

The aesthetics are head turning. It just looks like a nice jacket. People who dont know about motorcycles will think its cool, and people who do, see the A* logo and know its a solid jacket.

Functionality- Pads make you feel more safe and secure. Havent had trouble with the main zipper. straps/Velcro work fine. Side pickets on your side stomach are in an awkward position, they take some getting used to and are annoying at first. H20 resistant pocket is good for when you are caught in a storm. stretchy material found throughout the jacket is great.

Breathability- Great... As soon as you start riding from a stop light, you will feel the air come to your body which is amazing.

All in all, Jacket is everything you need. I would recommend this product to anyone who HAS the extra money to spend, because it is expensive.

Badass style, solid protection, good comfort, decent features.
I have had this jacket for about 7 months now, and I am still in love with it. At first look, you feel almost skeptical about the jacket because the styling is so badass, it feels almost too good to be true. However, once I put it on for the first time, i fell in love. You can feel that this jacket has superior protection. CE rated armor on the shoulders, and on the elbow extending down your arm. Once you purchase the chest and back protection [I chose the Dianese Manis G (size G-1)] it feels like you could take a serious fall at high speed and know that you are close to the safest you can get. However, the jacket is not perfect. I find it mildly annoying that the velcro on the wrists do not cover the zipper, as it feels like it serves no purpose. The wrists on the jacket already feel tight, very stiff, and bulky, which you can really feel when twisting the throttle. No matter what, it would be hard to cinch down just with velcro, as it is not microvelcro. The same regular velcro is also found over the top of the main zipper near the collar. I think this velcro piece was meant to hold the zipper in place to keep if from flapping at high speed, but it feels like the velcro is so weak that the zipper would stay put even without it.
That being said, this jacket also has many useful features. The zippered front pockets definitely give peace of mind for carrying things like your wallet, or cigarettes. All the zippers feel like very good quality, and stick once they are zipped. I also have had the misfortune of testing the waterproof pocket on the inside left of the jacket, and I was relieved to find that my phone was perfectly dry and operational when I got home. I purchased the white/red/black mainly for visibility at night, and I am also very pleased with the very reflective strips on the chest and back. I am 5'10, 145 lbs. and average to muscular build. The sizing on the jacket is pretty spot on-the sleeves come right up to my wrists, the neckline sits right when zipped, and the waist comes down right above my pants.
Overall, I am pleased to know that everywhere I go I am safe- and stylin!

Affordable, comfortable, and good looking.
I honestly can't say enough good things about this jacket. I was expecting a decent, but not outstanding jacket for what it cost, but it completely exceeded my expectations. The build quality is unmatched and is only substantiated by its unparalleled design. The perf scheme allows for the perfect amount of airflow to keep you cool when it's hot, and enough insulation to keep you warm when it's cool. I was also not expecting the extremely handy waterproof pocket on the inside of the jacket that is a perfect place to put your phone. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this product and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good entry level, full leather jacket.

Great Jacket
I am 6'1", 185 lbs, athletic build, I ordered a size 56 and it fits perfect. Being a "race" type jacket it is supposed to be nice and snug. The size 56 on me is snug but I am still able to wear a thermal underneath for morning commute to work. As far as looks go, yes it is way cool! I purchased the white /red/black. Classy and visible.....plus looks bitchin' with my white/black/red/blue 1300s bmw!
The quality of the jacket is awesome. It feels good and looks sturdy. The air flow is as good as it gets for the protection that it gives. I love this jacket and would highly recommend it.

keeps me cool in the summer and still have great leather protection
I bought the white red and black one to match my white and red frame monster 821. It looks awesome. Only thing is since I'm a big guy I had to get the size 60 in order to zip up the jacket, but the sleeves are too long so I have to zinch down the wrist and that makes it a little bulky to put on my gauntlets. And also the leather bunches up a bit at the elbow. But I just need to lose weight and buy like a 54 later on then everything will feel and look better. Awesome jacket though.

For cool summer riding with the new snap back protector ability. The textile/ mesh version of this jacket was my first jacket and I've been down at a good speed and had absolutely no road rash after hitting my right side and sliding on my back. The leather should be more durable however.
ImprezaR1 on Aug 1, 2016
It seems to be the coolest leather and matches my new R 12RS color way. The reviews were kinder to this model as well.
The Jaws had even better color matching for the bike but this one seemed an earlier model and better made based on reviews which I read extensively. I am worried the 54 won't be a perfect fit but based on reviews I am going to try it anyway. I would like a little room for a layer in cooler times.

I was a combination of styling, air flow, and protection that attracted me to this jacket. Unfortunately, I'm not built for it as my shoulders are very wide for my torso. No offered size fit me properly.

great summer jacket that offers the protection of another layer of skin to be ground down in the event of a pavement skid.
kenneth a on Oct 19, 2015
I liked the aggressive sport cut characteristics of the jacket. Was looking for a perforated leather jacket that I could mainly use in the summer months but also still us during the outer months while the temperatures are still fairly mild. This jacket seemed to be the best choice for that. I picked up a couple compression tops to use as a base layer with this jacket as it is much more comfortable and easier to get on and take off with those underneath.

Hello,
Whats the diffrance between this and the Jaws jacket?
A shopper on Mar 7, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I own both the Jaws, non perforated, and the GP Plus Perforated jackets. The jaws comes in 2 types (non perf and perf). In Los Angeles winter, the jaws non perf works pretty darn good with the inner liner. Black is my color in the winter. It has a more race type fit, however, I removed the shoulder and elbow armors for a more looser fit. The GP Plus Perf jacket is my summer jacket. The fit is a little more loose than the Jaws. Blue, black and White matches my 2013 Gixxer 750. Again, I remove the armors and the airflow is great while moving here in L.A. Both are great quality jackets and I would highly recommend both jackets.
Any tall riders wearing this

Any tall riders wearing this? 6"4 and on the skinny side. Any idea on a good size fit?

Can someone enlighten me as to why the GP-R jacket is $80 more than the GP-Plus R?? What is the difference?
Orente C on Sep 16, 2014
BEST ANSWER: They're very comparable as I had the GP-R before this, so I couldn't give you a solid answer. My thoughts though...the GP-R felt like a heavier jacket. Alex may be on to something. GP-R probably costs more in material.
How does the fitment compare the the Atem perforated jacket? I really love that jacket and it fits perfectly at size 56[eu] but don't know if I'm willing to dish out the money for it.
A shopper on Jun 16, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I've tried on both in store back to back.

The GP Plus R is a more relaxed, sport-street fit. It has more room in the gut, you have more range of motion and the armor is softer and more comfortable. This jacket with the GP Plus pants make a good, affordable two piece if you're different sizes on top and bottom.

The Atem is a race fit jacket. It's slightly shorter, fits tighter, and is only comfortable in the riding position. Expect it to be snug in the shoulders when in the riding position. They should not pinch or be painful in the armpits, though. That means it's too small or a bad cut for you.
what is the difference between the GP-Plus R and the new 2014 GP-R jacket besides the 40$ price increase?
Javier Q on Oct 17, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Honestly by looking at pictures, i dont see any difference. Same exact jacket, the only difference is that you get 40$ less bang for your buck...400 bucks is the most i would pay for it. Nice jacket though
I really would like to go the leather route but everyone tells me its too hot for virginia beach summer weather. My question is how breathable is perforated leather really? And is it worth the price difference from textile.
Levi B on Apr 29, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Levi I have the Alpinestars perforated leather jacket and I love it! I have not had the hot hot weather this year with it yet but it's about 70 degrees now and when I'm
Riding I wear a longsleave thermal shirt under the jacket because of the venting and perforation it's almost cold!! The leather jackets offer a lot more protection compared to the textile, and I can assure u that from my experience the perforated leather allow more air flow! I love my jacket and think even in hot hot weather that when I'm riding and not at a stand still my jacket will still be really comfortable
I tried on the size 58, and it just fits when wearing a tshirt, maybe slightly tight. My question is should I go a size up to 60, or would that defeat the purpose?

Or is it all just a matter of how I feel in it?

I'm about 5'11", 240 lbs, with a 48" chest and a 36" waist.
A shopper on Feb 18, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It will stretch in a little (very little), and it should fit snug. You want it to be too snug for a hoodie to fit underneath if you plan on taking it to the track. If it's for commuting, you might want to be able to fit a hoodie underneath to be able to insulate better (kinda depends on your climate). I'm about your size (1" taller and 2" bigger in the waist). I have a 58, which I wear almost exclusively at the track, and I think it would be too big if I went for a 60. even though it's perforated, it's quite warm, so even if you plan on mixing it up on track and street, I would probably still go for the 58 if I were you. As long as your arms move easily, it should be as tight as it can be without you being uncomfortable, so all the armor stays in place and can protect you if you crash.
Aside from the price difference, What is the difference between the A* Jaws and GP Plus R? Is the Jaws more of a race fit than the GP Plus R?
A shopper on Mar 17, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The Jaws has a inner, removable thermal liner. Fit-wise, the Jaws might be a bit more of a race fit, but only slightly. There's more perforation in the upper chest area with the GP Plus R.
Can you fit a sweater under this bad boy? I live in California and plan to where this year round, in the winter it gets chilliy but not really a real winter so just need a sweater under the jacket. I'm in between this and the non perf but I want something that will flow well in the 100 degree summer weather too lol
OJ on Apr 23, 2014
BEST ANSWER: No. Its a "tight" cut jacket so not unless you have something really thin with no layers underneath, but other than that you should go with Under Armor or something along those lines and long sleeve T cuz thats all youll have room for. I live in MA where I ride early spring late fall around 40-45 deg with the perf and just what I mentioned underneath and was totally fine. Yet to rock this jacket on a 90 deg day, but air flow is great confident Ill be fine in the heat. The perf is the way to go, have a buddy with a leather and no perf and he gets hot in the 70s after an hour.
I'm concerned with those snaps for the back protector. If I do not buy the protector, will those snaps be uncomfortable along my spine? will they dig into my back?
A shopper on Mar 7, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The snaps don't dig in at all. I have this jacket (best jacket I've had yet) and I can't really notice them as the edges are rounded. Only way you will notice them is if you had nothing on but the jacket. On a side note, it flows a good amount of air and is a really good semi race cut.
