Saved my shoulder and elbow
I was lucky enough (smart enough) to be wearing these during a recent accident. I went off my bike over the bars at around 20mph and landed head/shoulder first on the pavement. It literally felt like landing on pillows when it happened. I have a bit of soreness now after a few weeks, but there was never any noticeable bruising even after the accident, and I bruise extremely easily. At this price point, it's a no brainer!

Note, these are easily sewn into, or attached by velcro, to an undershirt, so you can have that armored shirt and still wear cool vintage leather like I do.

These are nice armor
I bought these for a leather jacket I've had for long time that didn't have armor. I sewed them in myself. They are very comfortable and no one can tell I'm even wearing them.

As other reviews have said, they smell really weird. But they don't smell worse than I already do.

good fitment, adequate protection
Just a few months ago I had been riding my small ninja 250 in a busy part of town and was hit by a VW rolling a stop sign. Being a fairly low speed collision there wasn't much force to make me slide, so it was a highside straight to the ground. the left elbow/forearm piece worked quite well, as that was the first to hit the ground, with my left shoulder directly after. The injuries I sustained were a broken collar bone and multiple bruised ribs.

Nice step up for the money
I replaced the default Styrofoam armor in my Victory Core Mesh Jacket with these guards. They fit easily enough and bump my jacket up to CE protection. These inserts are heavier than the Styrofoam but that's to be expected. They feel like much better protection though, and actually seem better than I expected for the price. This gear is CE approved, so I shouldn't be too surprised.

These inserts are still quite flexible even though they are fairly solid. They feel a lot like compressed rubber. I expect that they are great abrasion protection with limited impact protection. As mentioned elsewhere, they do have a slight odor to them. It's not a bad smell though. They smell soapy, with a bit of citrus. It's not a very strong smell but it's something you can notice. The odor isn't something that would put me off using these inserts.

Overall this seems like a good purchase since the price is rather low and (at the time of this writing) there is only one level of CE rated protection for shoulders and arms.

Works great in my River Road Vise Leather Jacket
Perfect fit, very well made. Also purchased the Back Protector (http://www.revzilla.com/product/knox-tp2-ce-back-protector). It also is of very high quality.

they fit
bought these to upgrade the armor in an awesome older leather jacket and they do the trick, they fit into the pockets well, feel like they will offer good protection which I hope I never get to test. I think they are good for the price.

Sure these aren't the top-o-the-line wonder material 3DO, but they're a 'Git 'er Done' set that feel high quality.

I was looking for armor to have installed in a Belstaff jacket but they're a bit clunky. If I were to do it over I'd order the newer design armor that's lower profile and more flexible. I'm OK with the level of protection the Alpinestars would provide, just don't like the bulky feel.
Larry P on Dec 11, 2014
I had a previous set of these and they saved my shoulder and elbow in a recent accident. Felt like pillows when I landed. I had no qualms picking up another set.

Hi
Does the Alpinestars Bio Armor Protection Kit have a CE Rating?
Same question for the Alpinestars Bio Armor Back Protector.
Thanks so much
Rob
A shopper on Sep 19, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Yes its CE rated
How thick is this armor compared to Icon D30? Would this be a better option to wear under "vintage" leather? Thanks
A shopper on May 17, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hey! I imagine you haven't had D3O in your hands before. Forcefield used to be my go-to upgrade armor, but D3O really is worth the hype (to my surprise). I still would say that Alpinestars Bio Armor is more protective then CE lvl 1 D3O, and Forcefield NET Armor is both more protective, and much more comfortable than Astars Bio Armor. However regarding your question in particular, your asking the wrong question. Both Icon D3O and Astar Bioarmor is similarly thick (Icon D3O is slightly thinner, but not drastically), however Icon D3O is miles ahead in flexibility and comfort. It simply blows it out of the water. For casual or lightweight motorcycle jackets, Icon D3O is the way to go.
Is Bio Armour CE level 1 or level 2?
A shopper on Dec 30, 2015
BEST ANSWER: While armor for extremities are now rated in both CE Level 1 and Level 2, this is recent. As far as I can tell (and trust me I've searched), this armor was introduced before the different levels, when armor testing was simply Pass/Fail. As such, it is most likely not certified as Level 1 or 2 simply because that system didn't exist when it was introduced. Certainly it meets CE Level 1, however whether it meets (or exceeds) Level 2 is simply not known (as far as I am aware).
what are the dimensions of the large elbow and large shoulder protectors?
A shopper on Aug 11, 2013
BEST ANSWER: Mine are approximately:

Shoulder is 7" wide by 8" long

Elbow is 6.5" wide by 10.5" long

Hope this helps and they are very comfortable.
Hey guys,

Is this bio armour hard armour or is it a soft kind of spongy soft armour?
I have a cloak fleece and am looking to replace the soft armour with hard armour.

Thanks,

Brendan.
Brendan S on Nov 11, 2014
BEST ANSWER: this is the hard armor, kind of like rubber. it's hard but flexible.
Will this armor fit in a Power-trip Powerglide jacket? If so, which size? Jacket is an L.

Thanks.
A shopper on Oct 6, 2014
BEST ANSWER: I don't have that jacket. so can't be of any help with that question. It does fit in an Aerostitch Roadcrafter 2 piece suit, size 42 though.
How to remove and adjust alpinestar bio armor elbow & shoulder protector in alpinestar gp plus perforated leather jacket?
A shopper on Jan 8, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Somewhere on your jacket you should have a zipper or velcro opening for accessing behind the mesh. Simply un-zip or open the velcro to replace the protectors.
In your video overview of Alpinestars armor you show the GP Series armor inserts in race suits. I do not see them on your website nor Alpinestars' for purchase. Are they available for purchase just like other armor inserts as an option to upgrade into Alpinestars jackets that normally come with the standard Bio Armor?
A shopper on Nov 4, 2012
BEST ANSWER: The Alpinestars GP Series armor are featured in all Alpinestars race suits, but they are not available to purchase separately.
Will this armor fit in a rev it ignition jacket? How does it compare to the rev it armor?
A shopper on Apr 14, 2011
BEST ANSWER: I don't think you would have a problem fitting the armor, but you aren't getting a real difference in protection between the two. Personally, I would stick with the REV'IT! armor as it will probably end up fitting better in the pockets and not sliding around.
Would the elbow piece be large enough to fit over my skinny knees?
John C on Feb 1, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I bought a set to use as replacement armour in some pants that did not have good padding, and the large size works very well.
