For what it is, it works okay. Needs reflective option and better day time protection from sun I have the dark smoke shield and its been alight. The tint needs to be darker. Like a nice pair of sun glasses, I don't think you should be able to see the eyes behind them and you shouldn't still be blinded by the sun in the afternoon. AGV needs to make a reflective shield(one that works better) for this helmet. Especially with the growing dual-sport market. For point of reference the Icon Variant reflective shield ridden in the same situations is far superior. April 23, 2013
A little pricey, but worth it After a season of riding with the AX-8 DS I decided to buy the optional tinted face shield. First observation, the removal and replacement of shields is far easier than any reports I had read prior to purchase. All you need is a coin to unscrew the attachment hardware and locating washers. The clear shield pops right off and fitting the tinted one took no more than 2 minutes. Really simple. Second thing, the tinted screen works well in sunny conditions and has nice clear optics. The only downside I have experienced is some bug gut "shadowing" that can remain after washing the shield in warm soapy water. Final observation, the helmet looks fantastically agressive with the smoked out shield in place. Jaws drop, small children run away and animals whimper. Seriously techno-cool. April 16, 2013

Must have for the AGV Ax-8 EVO DS This is a must have for daytime riding. The black also makes it looks nice on the helmet. Shipping on the shield was super fast. I didn't even expect it and it was already at my doorstep. November 12, 2012
Great addition If you own the AX-8 DS this is a great addition. Makes the helmet look really stealthy and is a dark tint for the sun. Remove the twod screws and it pops right on. March 5, 2012
Good visor, good tint color Although the visor system is not the easiest to use, snap this visor into place and you will have nice relief from the sun. It is not too dark, so for very bright days you may need sunglasses as well. You will appreciate this if the ride goes a bit longer than expected and you are still on the road when the sun starts to get low in the sky. February 20, 2012

Answer: 
I have both the DS and MX version, they fit almost exactly the same. My DS is one generation older, however, and seems to be a bit bigger. The MX version fits me a lot better, actually.

So, they are very similar, almost negligible differences.
