As this was my first helmet purchase I don't have much to compare to. However, I did do a lot of research and tried on quite a few helmets before going with this one. As for comfort, the only helmet I liked better was a Shoei, and I was not prepared to pay $400 for my first helmet. The IS-16 looks great, has good viewing area and from what I can tell so far, good airflow, although I'll have to wait till the Texas summer to see for sure. The noise level was a bit high, but as I don't really have anything to compare to, I'm just generalizing. I do like the dropdown sunshade, quote handy. All in all I am very pleased with my purchase.

My boyfriend and I bought these helmets about 2 years ago when we first started riding. We didn't really think there was a huge difference in the quality and features of helmets until we wore these.
After riding from Vancouver, Canada to Phoenix, and back up the California Coast, we certainly picked out a few major problems with this HJC IS-16.
The first problem was the tinted visor mechanism that flips down broke after a couple months. Seems like a great feature, but not when you can't use it:P
Secondly, the noise is VERY loud! The vent closures also got jammed on both our helmets, so they wouldn't close all the way. We got half way down south and couldn't stand it any longer so we bought some extra foam to stuff in the vent holes - lol!
The last think I would say is they seem to have stretched out a lot. I was properly fitted at the motorbike shop and it's had 2 years of riding, but even still it seems overly loose after 2 years.
I suppose this helmet would be okay if you were strictly an in-town rider and don't get out on the road much...but who does that;)
That said, I am now in the market for a "real" helmet! I am looking at the Shoei Qwest or Arai Rx-Q. THanks for the great reviews and videos Revzilla!!

I bought this helmet for my girlfriend so she could ride with me. The price was right and I like that it had the tinted pop down visor so I didn't have to buy a separate tinted visor for her. We have the same size head so I took her helmet for a test ride. I personally use a Shoei RF-1100 and it's the only helmet I have to compare with. As a passenger helmet, I would recommend the pop down visor, but I would never use it myself. It does not fully cover your field of vision so you can see the light shining through at the bottom left and right. In the middle where it does cover, the tinted visor sort of distorts your view so much that I can't see the gauges unless I tilt my head down. Moving to the main visor itself, vision is good. I did not like how it only has 3 positions though, closed, half open and fully opened. I usually crack mine just a tad if it starts to fog, but I couldn't do that on this one. So overall I'd say this is a great passenger helmet, but I'd probably shop around if it were for myself.

I just used this helmet for a 1300 mile road trip. All in all it was a great helmet that fit well, was comfortable, and durable.
The integral sun screen is useful, especially for someone like me that wears glasses.
Road noise was a little high, but not abnormal. Just don't expect the quietness of an Arai or Shoei.
My only complaint is that the breath deflector fasteners kept popping off with only a little bit of force. Not a big deal, and never happened while riding.

I bought this helmet for the built in sunglasses to use in the spring/fall when it gets dark early. Its first use was for the Oyster Run where we were in and out of clouds all day. I couldn't be more happy being able to flip the glasses up and down to adjust to the conditions.
