Alpinestars Bionic 2 Protection Jacket 4.6 5 18 18
Excellent protection. During the summer I ride in this jacket while training in Moto-Gymkhana. I usually have a synthetic, Underarmour style shirt underneath to wick off sweat, and this jacket on top. This jacket has a proven record for me. I've been down multiple times, but at pretty low speeds, rarely exceeding 20mph. In a slide out, you usually hit elbow and shoulder first. Sometimes I can roll out of it, and this jacket has enough mobility to do that. Protection is great! I love forearm protection, and a beefy elbow. Back protector is also very thick and substantial, while still staying quite mobile. I also really like that this jacket even though not designed for abrasion protection, still manages to keep you off the pavement. All points of contact are on the armor, and they are high enough that the skin doesn't really touch the pavement in a slide. As I said, in the summer I don't have anything on top of this jacket when training, and I had multiple slides in it, and never had any road rash, nor ripped any of the mesh. Mesh construction that holds the armor together is great for summer days as it lets in a lot of air. Airflow is still blocked in the areas where there is armour, but that is expected. Jacket stays on just fine, without riding up or shifting on the body. Wide velcro belt around the belly, helps a great deal, and there are two small velcro tabs on the chest, so you can connect chest piece to the belt if you want to, for a more solid feel. One caveat with this jacket tough, that you need to be aware of. The back protector has a zipper, that allows an easy removal. Unfortunately zipper tends to open up on its own, compromising the protection. Its a really bad design, and something that Alpinestar should be aware of. I fixed it quite easily by simply stitching a few loops on the sipper to stop if from opening up. Of course you won't be able to remove back protector now, without cutting those stitches, but I never had to remove the pack protector, so its not a problem for me. Overall and excellent protection and a great price. Looks good, vents well, easy in and out and manages to keep me safe. Highly recommended! October 12, 2014
Excelent product Very good product at Very good price, end excelent service Of revzilla August 11, 2014
Great protection Jacket ! It looks better in person ! Very stylish and highly recommended in summer, well ventilated and you feel very protected which gives confident on the road. MV Agusta Brutale 675 March 3, 2014
It fits like no other. I lost the previous armor to a forest fire and went with exactly the same one. Best armor out there. October 21, 2013
Great product! I got it so I had something while riding, I usually throw a hoodie over it. Feels great! October 21, 2013
Great Armor, Found the solution to the UN zippering of back armor . After reading all reviews and seeing the common problem to this jacket which was the back armor unzipping I decided to give it a try anyway and not listen to the little problem. Tried the jacket for a couple of rides and it would unzip, I was on my way to pack it up when I noticed two pieces of extra fabric under the zipper of the back armor, instantly I thought that's there for a reason and it was! When zippering the back armor make sure zipper tracks grab those pieces of fabric and voila!!! No more UN-zippering while you have it on while riding. By the way I had tried this jacket in a bike shop in a Large " That's what I normally wear " it fit great a little to snug, went ahead and got a XL and fits Greater. Pros: Great Airflow, Feels very protective, Comfortable, Looks Great. Cons: The zipper, but I found the solution! August 26, 2013
Great for hot summer days. I'll start off by saying I do recommend this product. While wearing it, I get good air flow and at the same time I feel protected. That being said it still gets hot where the armor is, which is not a big deal to me. The biggest issue I have with this product is that the back protector zipper comes undone very easily. At the end of the day the jacket works great, just double check the zipper on the back protector before you head out on a ride. July 15, 2013
Great product Great product. Delivery was right on time, product is everything I was expecting. I would recommend it to my friends July 15, 2013

Darren F: well in order to acurrately answer that question with any certainty some one would have to try them bot to do a comparason. but i have the bionic and it does fit under my jacket. its a bit snug and does look a bit like your wearing foot ball pads but some of the armor is removable the back plate and its not to tight i find the plastic to be slightly flexable to allow it to move around a bit threre is also a zipper in the front that allows the vest to open makeing it eazy to work with Jul 17, 2014

Zac C: The jacket is fairly low profile. The forearm armor was the the bulkiest part. Could fairly easily be worn under a jacket (permitted its not already a tight fit) Jul 16, 2014

Gregory M: I'm gonna have to go with it's about the same. You definitely look bigger on it. Tho probably not like you're wearing football pads. Jul 17, 2014

CasualADV: There are enough hard parts to keep your skin off the ground, so it should protect against abrasion. However, without something over it, I could see the mesh tearing and pulling, causing the hard parts to shift to places they shouldn't be. Then you would be open to damage. Jan 30, 2013

BrianChristopher: Hey man. I wear the bionic s2 protection jacket all on it's own with no jacket over it. It flows a ton of air. I get cold on 80 degree days. It is perfect for really hot days when you want protection and it's just way to hot to put on leathers. I definitally think it will protect on impacts and I'm sure provide more protection than just a plain t-shirt for slides. This is definitally a good buy. Plus you can use it under a leather jacket for when it's a little chilly. Jul 2, 2012

ian m asked: I have a few questions. How does this armor compare to Alpinestar 400$ jackets? To me it appears to be much better. For the price i could buy this and a 200$ textile jacket like the viper air to wear together. Also does it bunch up clothes worn underneath due to tightness? May 4, 2014

MICHAEL M: Id say it depends what kind of riding you'll be doing. If you're on a street bike I wouldnt go with anything but an A* or another quality race jacket, whereas if you're on a dual sport or dirt bike and will be doing a bit of off-roading, id go with the bionic and a moto jersey over top. The bionic is not meant to come out unscathed upon contact with pavement since it's mesh. Leather will hold up should it ever get put to use. May 7, 2014

A shopper asked: hey. would this protection jacket fit under a race suit like the alpinestars motegi or the AGV sport dragon leather or an icon jacket?
of course those jackets and suits would all have to have the armor and other protective pieces removed for thi bionic protection jacket to fit underneath.
thanks

KEVIN T: I use this under my Ducati 80's jacket (made by Dainese). It does fit inside the jacket only if the armor pieces in the jacket are removed. For me, it's a great fit under the jacket. Jan 13, 2014

Denis I asked: Hi, if i will wearing it with leather jacket 'alpinestars GP Plus R' it be comfortable or not? Jun 1, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Jeewaka Y: You probably will not be able to wear both. The GP Plus R already has elbow and shoulder protection built in. You can however, detach the spine protector from the bionic armor and insert it into the GP Plus R. Jun 1, 2014
