Shoei X-12 Montmelo Marquez Helmet (Size XL Only)
Love the design!
So I've previously owned HJC (first cheap helmet) and Shoei helmets (RF-1100), and with my new bike purchase I initially bought an X-14. I LOVED the helmet, but the $620+ price point was really a bummer. Of course, a few days later I found this X-12 Marquez and fell in love with the graphics, knowing it would be a nice match for my bike (2011 Triumph Daytona in caspian blue). Shipping was fast, and I really like the helmet. The biggest advantage to this one for me is in terms of looks, and when I turn to check my blind spot...with the X-14 (maybe it was the "wings" or maybe it was all in my head) but when I turned it felt like a LOT of resistance/turbulence. The X-12 allows me to turn and check my blind spot with ease which is important to me. Visibility is similar to the X-14 (I actually really dislike the tear-away posts on the shield that comes standard, I found them annoying for peripheral vision). Overall I did feel that the X-14 had a slight advantage in comfort, but I'm by no means disappointed in the X-12. A great helmet, and with the current savings on them (due to the new model being out) I'd say it's quite a bargain!

My only complaint is that the vents on the top are blocked by the liner but if you cut holes in the liner you can feel the air. It is nice and quiet in the tuck position and it is long enough so that my mouth isn't hitting the front of the helmet even with my hair in locks.

EXCELLENT value, especially when purchased on clearance!
I bought this helmet on clearance after being fitted at my local bike store. Found this on their site for clearance and figured I'd give it a try. This is also my first motorcycle helmet purchase, so keep that in consideration when reading this review.
It doesn't come with a pinlock visor out of the box, so I'm not sure how effective the system is. The visor does have a propensity to fog when the visor is fully closed (locked or not locked) and even with the breath guard affixed (I took it off as it was more comfortable removed).
As far as the airflow is concerned, it is pretty good. I don't feel particularly hot when riding through city street traffic, but I also have the visor cracked open to the first position from close (due to fogging of visor). But, if you're going about 25 to 30mph, then the fogging relatively ceases. I can also fit a pair of glasses on when wearing this helmet (which is a good thing, but not necessary).
I like the style. Mine is in black and looks good, I think. It is also quite comfortable with a relatively short break-in period for fitment.
There is very little to no buffeting even when riding at highway speeds and doing shoulder checks. The helmet ventilates BEST when you're in 3/4 to full tuck (as that's what this helmet was made for), but even if riding fairly upright, it still works well.
Vision is more than adequate, although when in full tuck, I would like the brow of the helmet to be a bit higher, but that's just my personal preference as vision isn't necessarily impeded, but I just prefer no "perceived" obstruction.
With the minor nit-picks I have for this helmet, I would definitely recommend this to a friend when priced on clearance.

Shoei spotless quality, as usual.
I use this helmet as an all-around helmet. Shoei is a good fit for my head shape, so I'm coming from a couple other helmets from the brand (Euro-spec XR-1100 & GT-Air).
This one is almost as confortable as the GT-Air, same for the sound level, but a little lighter and missing the sun visor.
It is every bit up to Shoei standards of spotless quality and finish.
It's European counterpart shows also outstanding crash-test results: http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/testsratings/shoei-x-spirit-ii but I don't know how much the actual US version differs from the Euro-spec one.

Good Track Day Helmet
I wouldn't cruise to work on the highway with this guy but if you are on the track and want something that won't rip your head off at 140 mph and provide good airflow at those race tracks in the deserts of california than it's a good bet.

The moment I opened the box I could tell this thing was well made. When I put it on it was definitely snug on my cheeks, but fit perfectly everywhere else. The vision is wide and the visor is, at least initially, so clear it seems like there's nothing covering your eyes. Considering its size, the helmet is incredibly light, I was shocked.
With all vents open you can feel the air coming through the helmet, but at speeds lower than 30mph there's definitely a problem with fogging. I have to pop the visor open every time I stop at a light or enter a low speed zone.
In spite of the drawbacks, I love this helmet.

All around excellent helmet in terms of comfort, value, function, design and protection.
This is my first helmet. I knew I wanted a quality helmet but nothing too expensive. I don't think I can settle for anything less now. The helmet fits me perfectly (Medium) and feels so comfortable to wear. I have a light silver helmet and I think it looks great and is visible enough. The airflow vents help with warmer weather, but in colder winter, spring or fall weather I have to open the face shield slightly in order not to fog up the inside of the helmet (not a huge deterrent). I recommend the X-12 to anyone who rides!
