Shoei RF-1200 Mystify Helmet

It’s not a mystery as to why the Shoei RF 1200 Mystify helmet shines. The pinnacle of perfection, the RF-1200 has been designed, from its inception, to be an industry leader in comfort, performance and protection. The wind tunnel tested shell has been optimized to provide a compact and aerodynamic shape, reducing wind-noise, buffeting and weight. Shoei has not only designed the RF-1200 to be one of the most comfortable helmets on the market, but also one of the safest, meeting both DOT and SNELL M2010 safety standards.

Whether you are a track day enthusiast or cross-country cruiser, the RF-1200 will allow you to ride with confidence, freeing you to concentrate on the road and most importantly....enjoy the ride.

Slim And Light Weight Design

One of the most important features of a quality helmet is that you hardly know it’s there protecting your head. Shoei has reduced the weight of the RF-1200 by using a slimmer design and building a distinct line into the side of the helmet that also serves as an accent. As a result, the new Shoei RF-1200 is lighter than any other Snell certified helmet in the current Shoei lineup.

Shell Construction

The new slim design of the Shoei RF-1200, with its distinct accent cut line, widens the bottom of the helmet to help ease the process of putting the helmet on or taking it off. Further advancing the comfort of the AIM+ shell is the industry leading four shell sizes that the Shoei RF-1200 comes in. The impact-absorbing dual liner consists of two layers incorporating different densities, helping to effectively balance the potential impact applied to the more rigid shell.

Through advancements in the aerodynamic shape, improved interior linings and a new and improved shield system the rider will experience a very quiet and comfortable riding experience. The interior of the RF-1200 has achieved a balance of a comfortably soft fit and a firm, stable hold. The new design of the cheek pads also improves the motion of the neck, thus helping the rider to check traffic behind him/her for example.

Shield System

The new CWR-1 Pinlock shield features ribs on top and bottom of the shield to improve rigidity and eliminate bending of the shield caused by wind pressure or the opening and closing of the shield. Independent beading in the top and sides of the helmet help to keep the seal of the shield tight and eliminate any excess air. In addition to the CWR-1 shield, Shoei has developed a new base plate for the RF-1200. The Quick-Release Self-Adjusting base plate is spring-loaded and pulls the shield back onto the helmet, sealing it tightly against wind and rain. The addition of a new five-stage rotating dial allows for fine tuning of the base place for easy shield adjustments.

A large lower three position vent, three upper air vent intakes and four uniquely positioned upper exhaust outlet vents combine with the Dual Density EPS liner to allow cooling air to travel unrestricted through tunnels created in the EPS liner.

Every time I wear it, I'm glad I bought it! Overall I love the helmet. Really enjoy the thin cutouts to allow for glasses or sunglasses as I have bad vision and don't have a tinted helmet lens. It's not as quiet as I thought it would be. The airflow is good but I haven't been able to notice a difference when I open or close the rear spoiler latch. It fits really good around the neck, giving plenty of room to tuck down low and tilt my head all the way up. It also gives good visual range so I feel confident in my surrounding. The front air vent does a great job of clearing the lens of fog and keeping things fresh, though it does have a wispy whirring noise as speed increases past 50. July 27, 2015
Best helmet I have owned. Glad I splurged! I have owned various cheaper helmets in the past and recently decided to step up to the Shoei. The first thing I noticed about the helmet after unboxing it was how nice the finish was. It reminded me of a new paint job on a car. The shape of the helmet and placement of the vents are smart and easy to operate. The padding is soft to the touch and feels like it will last a very long time. My cheeks were snug for the first week or so, but that goes away after breaking it in a bit. My neck has been thankful for the weight. It doesn't even feel like I'm wearing helmet when checking lanes and such. I would also mention that the helmet isnt as big as other ones ive owned, so I look less like some martian. I ride a CB500X and the wind noise is considerable due to the rinky dink windshield that deflects everything into my face. The shape of the RF-1200 reduced that wind noise by a decent margin. I still choose to wear hearing protection for any rides where I go over 50mph. The only thing that confused me was the rear vent. I had to look in the manual to see which position was open vs closed. No big deal. The price tag had me toiling over splurging or not for weeks, but in the end the safety and comfort this helmet provide felt worth it to me. I highly recommend this helmet for anyone looking to get something premium. July 27, 2015
Quiet and Excellent Fit I was looking for a helmet to replace my Arai Profile which I have had for a few years. I needed one that was quieter and more comfortable. When I bought the Profile it was the only helmet I could find that came close to fitting my long oval head (but it still pressed on my forehead). The Profile was also rated as quiet but I was getting a lot of wind noise. I took the Shoei RF1200 for a test drive and it won me over in both areas, its very comfortable and much quieter. A nice upgrade from an RF-1100 This helmet replaced my RF-1100. The fit is the same, to the point that, just like my old helmet, I installed the XL helmet-sized cheek pads (shorter foam pads) into my medium helmet to keep the pads from pushing my cheeks between my teeth. The fit to my head (which is right between oval and round on the helmet scale) is superb, with no hot spots. I can wear this helmet for hours. May 25, 2015
Great helmet! Used their products for years and find them consistent in quality! Revzilla offers great service every time. May 18, 2015
You don't know until you ride in it I test fitted one a few months ago, my brother bought one and I went for a short trip in it, and was very happy. Finally I ordered mine, after a 40 mile ride, wow! The clarity is crazy, fit is exceptional, very comfortable, fog free pin lock functions like a dream. The viewable area is nice, again one of those things that easy to look past standing around with the helmet on. I cannot express enough how nice this helmet is, I knew before hand but it didn't all click until after going for a decent ride. Expensive... But well worth it. I rated noise avg, it's fairly loud compared to some other "non sport" helmets I've worn, compared to my other sport helmets it's pretty quiet. I was worried about the chin bar vent drying out my eyes, not a problem. It's pretty light, however some European helmets "non snell" are lighter, we are talking about pretty small numbers. excellent Best helmet I have ever owned and I have had several Shoei helmets prior to this to include RF1000. Upgrades are fantastic and Shoei attention to detail is unparalleled. Highly recommend. It is a bit narrow and designed for more oval shaped head, which I do have and may make me biased. April 13, 2015
Best full face helmet that I've used I've gone away from full face helmets the past few years due to comfort issues. In fact, I've been using a HJC IS-33 for the past 3+ years (very comfortable) but it was so loud with my V&H exhaust that even with earplugs my ears would ring after a ride. Wanted an Arai due to the reputation but the cheek/ear pads do not fit my head shape. Tried on the RF-1200 and was immediately impressed with the materials used, the comfort, and the technical features. It's one of the quietest and lightest helmets I've ever owned. I'm very happy with my purchase and highly recommend. The graphics on the Mystify are of high quality and really set the helmet apart. Airflow is decent (again, coming from a 3/4 it's hard to compare) and no problems with the field of vision. I had to get the 31MM cheek pads with my Large helmet to allow room to open/close my mouth. By far the best helmet I've owned! November 3, 2014

Jamie S: I don't know about the RF-1100 sizes and how they changed for the RF-1200. I did find this chart on Web Bike Worlds web site. Very good unbiased reviews. I read those then buy from Revzilla.

The RF-1200 shell sizes...
Head Size Uses this Shell Size
I know for a fact the RF-1200 runs a little small. Based on my head measurement I should be a XL but it was too small. XXL fits me fine.

Hope this helps.

A shopper asked: The Shoei RF-1100 specifications indicate five (5) shell sizes and the Revzilla table indicates six shell sizes, with helmet size - shell size as follows: xxs-xs, xs-xs, s-m, m-m, l-l, xl-xl, 2xl-2xl and 3xl-2xl. The Shoei RF-1200 specifications indicate four (4) shell sizes but Revzilla only includes the old table. What helmet sizes go with what shell sizes for the Shoei RF-1200, and, specifically, what is the shell size for an XL helmet size (hopefully the XL helmet size continues to have its own XL shell size as opposed to using the same shell as the 2XL)? Brandon R asked: Is the Shoei RF-1200 good for glasses wearers? Mar 30, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Mark L: That depends on the type of glasses. There is a channel in the pads that allows the arms of the glasses to settle into. I almost always wear sunglasses with the helmet, but some styles are more comfortable than others as the pads can put extra pressure on the glasses if they are too large. Mar 30, 2015

George D: Perfect No. Acceptable Yes. I wear bifocals and progressives and have no issues with the helmet. I do need to adjust the glasses after the helmet is on however. Awesome helmet,I love it. Mar 30, 2015

Randall H: I wear sunglasses with reading lenses with my RF1200. Works just fine and is comfortable. There is adequate room around the temples and the earpieces of the glasses do not cause pressure spots. I also have a wireless communicator installed in mine, and the speakers do not cause any discomfort with glasses. It's a great helmet. Mar 30, 2015

A shopper asked: I wear size M[edium] in a Shoei Neotec. When I tried the RF1200, i could barely get my head in it and found size L[arge] to be the right size for me in this model. Has anyone had similar experience with different model sizing? aka. Does the RF1200 run a size small? Thanks in advance :) May 11, 2014

Marty B: I found it to be very consistent with mediums. I couldn't wear older Shoei's becaus I have a elongated head. I found that both the Arai and the the Shoei to be close. I chose the Shoei because it's smaller and quieter
I really like it and as I said the medium was spot on, at least for me
Hopefully that helps.

A shopper asked: Does all RF-1200 models comes with reflective coating line? Feb 6, 2014
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Parker F: If I recall correctly after watching all the product video's by Anthony on the RF1200 I'm pretty sure all of them had some sort of reflective striping on them to some degree. Some were more subtle, and others had a more pronounced stripe that reflects. What was interesting was the way Shoei incorporated the reflective material into the design without it being noticeable until light was shinned on it. Feb 6, 2014
