Shoei RF-1200 Mystify Helmet

It’s not a mystery as to why the Shoei RF 1200 Mystify helmet shines. The pinnacle of perfection, the RF-1200 has been designed, from its inception, to be an industry leader in comfort, performance and protection. The wind tunnel tested shell has been optimized to provide a compact and aerodynamic shape, reducing wind-noise, buffeting and weight. Shoei has not only designed the RF-1200 to be one of the most comfortable helmets on the market, but also one of the safest, meeting both DOT and SNELL M2010 safety standards.

Whether you are a track day enthusiast or cross-country cruiser, the RF-1200 will allow you to ride with confidence, freeing you to concentrate on the road and most importantly....enjoy the ride.

Slim And Light Weight Design

One of the most important features of a quality helmet is that you hardly know it’s there protecting your head. Shoei has reduced the weight of the RF-1200 by using a slimmer design and building a distinct line into the side of the helmet that also serves as an accent. As a result, the new Shoei RF-1200 is lighter than any other Snell certified helmet in the current Shoei lineup.

Shell Construction

The new slim design of the Shoei RF-1200, with its distinct accent cut line, widens the bottom of the helmet to help ease the process of putting the helmet on or taking it off. Further advancing the comfort of the AIM+ shell is the industry leading four shell sizes that the Shoei RF-1200 comes in. The impact-absorbing dual liner consists of two layers incorporating different densities, helping to effectively balance the potential impact applied to the more rigid shell.

Through advancements in the aerodynamic shape, improved interior linings and a new and improved shield system the rider will experience a very quiet and comfortable riding experience. The interior of the RF-1200 has achieved a balance of a comfortably soft fit and a firm, stable hold. The new design of the cheek pads also improves the motion of the neck, thus helping the rider to check traffic behind him/her for example.

Shield System

The new CWR-1 Pinlock shield features ribs on top and bottom of the shield to improve rigidity and eliminate bending of the shield caused by wind pressure or the opening and closing of the shield. Independent beading in the top and sides of the helmet help to keep the seal of the shield tight and eliminate any excess air. In addition to the CWR-1 shield, Shoei has developed a new base plate for the RF-1200. The Quick-Release Self-Adjusting base plate is spring-loaded and pulls the shield back onto the helmet, sealing it tightly against wind and rain. The addition of a new five-stage rotating dial allows for fine tuning of the base place for easy shield adjustments.

A large lower three position vent, three upper air vent intakes and four uniquely positioned upper exhaust outlet vents combine with the Dual Density EPS liner to allow cooling air to travel unrestricted through tunnels created in the EPS liner.

Shoei RF-1200 Mystify Helmet 4.8 5 550 550
looks great this helmet is awsome but is on the pricey side. if you have the extra cash i definitely recommend this helmet. October 13, 2015
This lid may save you head.. and look good doing it. Last year an RF1100 saved my head after getting hit head on.. At the time the RF1200 had just came out but I didn't love any of the graphics.. so I went with another RF1100.. Then the Indy Marquez was released and I knew I had to have it... Great helmet with all of the features of the RF1100 with some improvements... good ventilation while staying pretty quiet.. comfortable and protective... October 12, 2015
Amazing helmet! Amazing helmet! I couldn't believe how light and sleek it was. My head is 22 1/4" so I went with the medium, but I'm thinking I should have gotten the small instead since the medium is a perfect fit right out of the box but will loosen a little once it breaks in. The good news is that they sell a thicker liner so once I get that it should be perfect. This helmet is also very easy to get on and off which was a nice upgrade. October 8, 2015
A+ with the included lens This is an excellent helmet. It fits comfortably and securely. The included Pinlock Lens is what takes it into the realm of awesome. I haven't had problems with the shield fogging up since I installed the extra lens pane. It's great to be able to keep your head warm and not have to worry about fog. October 6, 2015
Slick design This helmet is attractive and has a decent amount of features. I've got a lot of complements. The pinlock is an okay feature, not totally necessary for around town riding. Sunglasses and glasses fit nicely. The cheekpads are a little tight at first but wore in after a while. I tried a medium on and it was way too tight so I got the large and it fits perfectly. I'm usually a medium so I would suggest getting a size up from your normal. It fits fairly snug all around and even comes with a chin windscreen to keep air and some noise out. The visor can be adjusted to stay in place in any position which is very nice. I wish the back vents were a little more obvious when opened or closed. There's a lot of similar helmets out there for cheaper but it's all the little things on this one that made it worth the money. October 2, 2015
Beautiful and comfortable! I purchased this helmet for ATV riding, so my ratings are probably different than someone who's using it for the street. This helmet is light weight, comfortable and stylish! It is quiet and we use our Sena radios while riding without issue. It can tend to fog up a little at slow speeds - it was clearly built for speed! I wanted a comfortable lightweight helmet for ATV riding, and if I could change one thing it would be to get a bit more air flow through at lower speeds (trail riding). It wasn't cheap, but it was worth the price for me. October 1, 2015
Needle in a haystack. I can't leave a review for this product without first acknowledging the incredible support and customer service I received from Ethan and Jon @ RZ. I'm a new rider and first time helmet buyer, and they answered all of my questions, looked at photos of my head shape, and provided valuable input in the decision making process. I was considering a few helmets (Bell Star, Arai Signet-Q, among others) before choosing this RF-1200, and though it is still less than a month old - I have no regrets. But, I was overwhelmed at first with how many choices there were... I ordered the SM and MD because my head size is 56cm Intermediate Oval, and that puts me right in the middle of the two sizes. Out of the box, the MD was much more comfortable. But after watching several videos, reading many sizing guides, and asking a ton of questions, I realized that the SM was a better (read: safer) fit. My skin moved with the helmet when I moved it, I couldn't touch the chin bar to my chin, I couldn't slide the helmet off, etc. After a few days, the firmness of the liner and cheek pads has given a little, and the fit is comfortably snug. My ratings above may be skewed since I have no comparison, but here's my logic: BANG - Shoei is a top quality brand, and this is one of their top helmets. The quality and features are commensurate with helmets from other brands that go for hundreds more. STYLE - sporty without being aggressively race oriented and classic without looking like a bubble head. COMFORT - answered that above. It IS snug at first, but it is incredibly comfortable once the interior starts to break in a bit. PROTECTION - hopefully I never have to experience this firsthand, but again, everything I heard and read suggests it's top notch, SNELL 2015 and DOT-certified too. AIRFLOW - seems decent, but I haven't been on too many rides at speed yet. There are plenty of accessible vents though. FEATURES - I like the idea of the emergency cheekpad release system, but again, I hope I never have to use it. NOISE LEVEL - This is my first helmet and my first bike. I'm used to riding road cycles and hitting the drops at 40mph is loud. I have no benchmark, but the Shoei definitely makes it quieter than wearing nothing! September 29, 2015
This helmet is perfect, for me at least. Before purchasing this helmet, I was riding with a generic brand helmet, GMax. There are no comparisons here. I have the Hi-Viz red helmet. All my friends spot me via the helmet, I'm hoping all the other drivers on the road do as well ('tis why I bought it). It also fits perfectly. I don't have anything negative to say about the helmet. Great air flow, fits perfect, very wide view, looks awesome and can be easily spotted. Was a great purchase. Haven't rode on the interstate with it yet, just use it for commuting at the moment. Jamie S: I don't know about the RF-1100 sizes and how they changed for the RF-1200. I did find this chart on Web Bike Worlds web site. Very good unbiased reviews. I read those then buy from Revzilla.

The RF-1200 shell sizes...
Head Size Uses this Shell Size
I know for a fact the RF-1200 runs a little small. Based on my head measurement I should be a XL but it was too small. XXL fits me fine.

Hope this helps.

A shopper asked: The Shoei RF-1100 specifications indicate five (5) shell sizes and the Revzilla table indicates six shell sizes, with helmet size - shell size as follows: xxs-xs, xs-xs, s-m, m-m, l-l, xl-xl, 2xl-2xl and 3xl-2xl. The Shoei RF-1200 specifications indicate four (4) shell sizes but Revzilla only includes the old table. What helmet sizes go with what shell sizes for the Shoei RF-1200, and, specifically, what is the shell size for an XL helmet size (hopefully the XL helmet size continues to have its own XL shell size as opposed to using the same shell as the 2XL)? Brandon R asked: Is the Shoei RF-1200 good for glasses wearers? Mar 30, 2015
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Mark L: That depends on the type of glasses. There is a channel in the pads that allows the arms of the glasses to settle into. I almost always wear sunglasses with the helmet, but some styles are more comfortable than others as the pads can put extra pressure on the glasses if they are too large. Mar 30, 2015

George D: Perfect No. Acceptable Yes. I wear bifocals and progressives and have no issues with the helmet. I do need to adjust the glasses after the helmet is on however. Awesome helmet,I love it. Mar 30, 2015

Randall H: I wear sunglasses with reading lenses with my RF1200. Works just fine and is comfortable. There is adequate room around the temples and the earpieces of the glasses do not cause pressure spots. I also have a wireless communicator installed in mine, and the speakers do not cause any discomfort with glasses. It's a great helmet. Mar 30, 2015

A shopper asked: I wear size M[edium] in a Shoei Neotec. When I tried the RF1200, i could barely get my head in it and found size L[arge] to be the right size for me in this model. Has anyone had similar experience with different model sizing? aka. Does the RF1200 run a size small? Thanks in advance :) May 11, 2014

Marty B: I found it to be very consistent with mediums. I couldn't wear older Shoei's becaus I have a elongated head. I found that both the Arai and the the Shoei to be close. I chose the Shoei because it's smaller and quieter
I really like it and as I said the medium was spot on, at least for me
Hopefully that helps.

Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Robert A: The RF1200 is the only helmet I own, so I can say if it will fit the same as what you currently have. But since you're current helmet is also a Shoei, I would imagine it will fit very similar. My helmet is also a small, and it fit a little tight around the head, so I ordered the thinner foam liner and it fits perfect now! They also sell thinner cheek foam liner, so I'm sure you'll be able to get exactly what you're looking. Great helmet, by the way, never ever fogs up and is comfortable to wear all day long. Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
Parker F: If I recall correctly after watching all the product video's by Anthony on the RF1200 I'm pretty sure all of them had some sort of reflective striping on them to some degree. Some were more subtle, and others had a more pronounced stripe that reflects. What was interesting was the way Shoei incorporated the reflective material into the design without it being noticeable until light was shinned on it. Feb 6, 2014
