Shoei RF-1200 Marquez Black Ant Helmet

Celebrate the youngest MotoGP rookie-champion since Kenny Roberts with the Shoei RF-1200 Marquez Black Ant Helmet. Rock it like Marc.

The pinnacle of perfection, the RF-1200 has been designed, from its inception, to be an industry leader in comfort, performance and protection. The wind tunnel tested shell has been optimized to provide a compact and aerodynamic shape, reducing wind-noise, buffeting and weight. Shoei has not only designed the RF-1200 to be one of the most comfortable helmets on the market, but also one of the safest, meeting both DOT and SNELL M2010 safety standards.

Whether you are a track day enthusiast or cross-country cruiser, the RF-1200 will allow you to ride with confidence, freeing you to concentrate on the road and most importantly....enjoy the ride.

Please Note: Wearing the Shoei RF-1200 Maquez Black Ant Helmet does not guarantee pole position performance on the track.

Slim And Light Weight Design

One of the most important features of a quality helmet is that you hardly know it’s there protecting your head. Shoei has reduced the weight of the RF-1200 by using a slimmer design and building a distinct line into the side of the helmet that also serves as an accent. As a result, the new Shoei RF-1200 is lighter than any other Snell certified helmet in the current Shoei lineup.

Shell Construction

The new slim design of the Shoei RF-1200, with its distinct accent cut line, widens the bottom of the helmet to help ease the process of putting the helmet on or taking it off. Further advancing the comfort of the AIM+ shell is the industry leading four shell sizes that the Shoei RF-1200 comes in. The impact-absorbing dual liner consists of two layers incorporating different densities, helping to effectively balance the potential impact applied to the more rigid shell.

Quietness

Through advancements in the aerodynamic shape, improved interior linings and a new and improved shield system the rider will experience a very quiet and comfortable riding experience. The interior of the RF-1200 has achieved a balance of a comfortably soft fit and a firm, stable hold. The new design of the cheek pads also improves the motion of the neck, thus helping the rider to check traffic behind him/her for example.

Shield System

The new CWR-1 Pinlock shield features ribs on top and bottom of the shield to improve rigidity and eliminate bending of the shield caused by wind pressure or the opening and closing of the shield. Independent beading in the top and sides of the helmet help to keep the seal of the shield tight and eliminate any excess air. In addition to the CWR-1 shield, Shoei has developed a new base plate for the RF-1200. The Quick-Release Self-Adjusting base plate is spring-loaded and pulls the shield back onto the helmet, sealing it tightly against wind and rain. The addition of a new five-stage rotating dial allows for fine tuning of the base place for easy shield adjustments.

Ventilation

A large lower three position vent, three upper air vent intakes and four uniquely positioned upper exhaust outlet vents combine with the Dual Density EPS liner to allow cooling air to travel unrestricted through tunnels created in the EPS liner.

Features:

  • Four shell sizes
  • Dual density EPS liner
  • Superior ventilation
  • 3D Max-Dry System II Liner
  • E.Q.R.S. (Emergency Quick-Release System) CWR-1 Shield System
  • Neatly secure chin strap
  • Includes Pinlock pins and lens insert
  • Includes breath guard and chin curtain
  • Snell M2010 and DOT Certified

Now I know the difference. Between a $200 helmet and a $500 helmet. I purchased a sena 20s and installed it on my Scorpion helmet which I loved until I realized it was the reason I couldn't hear the sena at all. A friend of mine had the RF1200 and the same sena and said his was loud, so I bought one and he was right. I can now hear the sena perfectly as well as other things outside the helmet which is hard to explain but it works for me. I did the review on my iPad so I couldn't adjust the sliding review bars but the helmet is awesome. Very quiet and very comfortable. I wore a large in my scorpion but I'm a medium in Shoei. Thanks Revzilla!! August 31, 2015
Worth the money - just make sure it's right for your head shape. I ordered the RF-1200 after reading all of the good reviews. I wanted a safe helmet that was DOT and Snell certified, that wasn't too bulky. The helmet delivered in the looks and build quality department. Unfortunately, I have a head that is oval-shaped, which I found out after wearing the helmet and getting a painful hot spot on my forehead. Revzilla recommended going to a the 5mm center pad (the helmet comes with a 9mm pad), which alleviated some, but not all of the pain. (After 20 minutes of riding, I still had a sore, red spot on the middle of my forehead.) The vents in the helmet are ok - I couldn't really tell if it was flowing a lot of air. Also, the visor tends to whistle when it's fully raised and you're riding anywhere over 30 m.p.h. I ordered a medium, which was snug on my 23'' head. If I had a round or slight oval head, I'd be keeping this helmet. As it stands, I'll be selling it at a loss, and trying the Arai Signet-Q that I've ordered. August 25, 2015
Great but loud This is a great helmet, fit, weight, air flow, aerodynamics all A+ only real down side is the wind noise is really bad. You would think for this price point they would have this issue resolved. I rode with the Icon airmada before this helmet and that helmet does a much better job in the noise department. helmet manufactures need to get together so we can get helmets with all the features needed in one helmet not just a few in each. August 25, 2015
Great helmet. Awesome helmet. Great design. Amazing color. Just wish the shape would fit a little better to my weird head. August 24, 2015
I love it! Great helmet! Great helmet! I am upgrading from an older RF-1000. I ride an R6. The biggest bit for me is the added visios I can get in a full tuck. It feels like the rear of the helmet is a little higher so it doesn't contact a jacket/suit which helps me look farther ahead. Also the aeros are much better. Wind does push my head around nearly as much. Moral of the story every time I ride with this helmet I say to myself "why did I wait so long?". Great great great! August 24, 2015
Great all round helmet. I've had all kinds of brands of helmets. My first helmet was a Shoei RF-1000. Back then, the RF-1000 didn't feel 'premium'. It was more of an entry level helmet. A helmet that paves the way to better, higher spec lids. Anything below an RF-1000 was junk. Enter the RF-1200. It's a great all rounder for every day wear. You can tour, do trackdays, cruise, whatever your heart pleases with this helmet. Built quality is top notch. Easily leagues above the older models. It feels very solid. Tolerances are tight. Dare I say, it's close to the same build quality as an Arai, if not the same build quality. It's overbuilt. Crazy overbuilt. I could barely flex this thing. It's a solid shell. Paint quality is wonderful. So much so that I wish my bike had the same paint quality as the RF-1200. It's nice and thick. Painted like a German car. Fit is great, but that's very subjective. My head fits most helmets except for the extreme shapes. No hotspots. No pressure points. Nothing too tight. Nothing too loose. It fits just right. The fabric and padding are quite comfortable as well. Ventilation is great. I have a lot of race replica helmets. Those only vent effectively when in the full tuck position. The RF-1200 vents in any position which is great. I can feel the air on the top of my head, which is a nice. Sound wise, it's noticeable quieter than any of my race replicas, but I would still wear hearing protection due to wind noise. Field of vision is also quite nice. Not AGV Corsa wide, but wide enough. The clarity of the face shield insanely clear. Probably the clearest I have ever seen through. I have the dark smoke, and good lord, it's so clear! Weight wise, it's about average. Lighter than most on the market. But not as light as a race replica. Overall, the RF-1200 is the jack-of-all trades in the market. It does everything well, and generally does nothing wrong. Price-wise, it definitely has increased since the RF-1000 days, but what you get is a helmet that has been moved up to the premium stage. This helmet should be everyone's every day helmet. August 20, 2015
Awesome Helmet! Great helmet! I tried on multiple Arai helmets but none of them fit the crown of my head as I would have liked so it had me looking elsewhere. I ended up ordering this in matte black with the dark smoke shield and it's an awesome combo. Looks great and more than comfy for longer rides. Very aerodynamic, decently light and super quiet. I'm a 58cm head, right on the cusp of med/large so I got the medium. It's a perfect fit if only a bit snug and I assume it'll break in and loosen just a tad. Would definitely recommend it! Great upgrade over RF-1000 Have had the RF-1000 for 5 years and decided it was time to replace it. The RF-1200 fits just like the RF-1000, and feels much smaller and lighter (which it is). Air flow seems much better and the visor locking mechanism is much better. The chin vents really moves air across the visor to keep it fog free. Out of the box I took it on a 3,000 road trip on the West coast and it performed excellently. Definitely quieter than the RF-1000, I did all day rides at or above 60mph with no ear plugs, which is something I couldn't do with the RF-1000. August 17, 2015

Chitrang A asked: This question is to Revzilla,
I bought this helmet recently after trying M versus L size on the same helmet at another store and my size is L.
Initially the week it was nice but now this helmet started to give me constant headache on my forehead as soon as I take it off.
Can you please help me out on this because this is an expensive helmet and cannot afford to ride with headaches? Thanks.

Mike R: Hi,
I would get the large one. I like the medium one coz that fits my head well enough. Now it is slightly a lil tight on the medium size.. If your looking to be in the middle you might wanna look into AGV helmets coz they have ML(medium large). Hope that helps! Thanks!

Chitrang A: Thanks Mike. I have the large one and trying to adjust into that. I think any smaller than that is not going to work for me. thanks again. Jun 3, 2015
domingo o: Hey try adjusting your straps, also try removing some of the padding inside the helmet or just rearranging the padding to your comfort. If that fails the maybe check to see if you can find different padding for the lid online. Hope this helps Jun 3, 2015

Robert V: I had a similar issue. To correct this, I had to purchase the reduced size (over stock) cheek pads and head liner. This gave me just enough room and the helmet was comfortable. Jun 3, 2015

Chitrang A: Thanks Robert. I'm trying with Shoei to get me a reduced size.
Did you mean Head liner by center pads or head liner for heat out?
After you installed reduced size pads did you have little room in your helmet and did it move a bit on higher speed while doing head check?
I really appreciate your help. Jun 3, 2015
Chitrang A: Thanks Domingo for your input. I will get smaller pads and see how they fit. Jun 3, 2015

GABRIEL G: I could tell you this, I bought a new sport bike in July and also bought this helmet.rain, wind cold ,speed and what ever Mother Nature threw at me has not done any harm to my helmet. It still looks like it just came out of the box but like anything else you have to take care of you're equipment.imput 1900 miles on my bike with this helmet and I'm still riding here in NYC. Mamdouh S: Where did you hear that ? I can't even imagine that happening. The paint is so embeded into the surface of the helmet that you would think it was molded from these colors .. No seems or separation between the colors.. Just what you would expect from a top quality Japanese product Nov 22, 2014
