Shoei RF-1200 Marquez Black Ant Helmet

Celebrate the youngest MotoGP rookie-champion since Kenny Roberts with the Shoei RF-1200 Marquez Black Ant Helmet. Rock it like Marc.

The pinnacle of perfection, the RF-1200 has been designed, from its inception, to be an industry leader in comfort, performance and protection. The wind tunnel tested shell has been optimized to provide a compact and aerodynamic shape, reducing wind-noise, buffeting and weight. Shoei has not only designed the RF-1200 to be one of the most comfortable helmets on the market, but also one of the safest, meeting both DOT and SNELL M2010 safety standards.

Whether you are a track day enthusiast or cross-country cruiser, the RF-1200 will allow you to ride with confidence, freeing you to concentrate on the road and most importantly....enjoy the ride.

Please Note: Wearing the Shoei RF-1200 Maquez Black Ant Helmet does not guarantee pole position performance on the track.

Slim And Light Weight Design

One of the most important features of a quality helmet is that you hardly know it’s there protecting your head. Shoei has reduced the weight of the RF-1200 by using a slimmer design and building a distinct line into the side of the helmet that also serves as an accent. As a result, the new Shoei RF-1200 is lighter than any other Snell certified helmet in the current Shoei lineup.

Shell Construction

The new slim design of the Shoei RF-1200, with its distinct accent cut line, widens the bottom of the helmet to help ease the process of putting the helmet on or taking it off. Further advancing the comfort of the AIM+ shell is the industry leading four shell sizes that the Shoei RF-1200 comes in. The impact-absorbing dual liner consists of two layers incorporating different densities, helping to effectively balance the potential impact applied to the more rigid shell.

Quietness

Through advancements in the aerodynamic shape, improved interior linings and a new and improved shield system the rider will experience a very quiet and comfortable riding experience. The interior of the RF-1200 has achieved a balance of a comfortably soft fit and a firm, stable hold. The new design of the cheek pads also improves the motion of the neck, thus helping the rider to check traffic behind him/her for example.

Shield System

The new CWR-1 Pinlock shield features ribs on top and bottom of the shield to improve rigidity and eliminate bending of the shield caused by wind pressure or the opening and closing of the shield. Independent beading in the top and sides of the helmet help to keep the seal of the shield tight and eliminate any excess air. In addition to the CWR-1 shield, Shoei has developed a new base plate for the RF-1200. The Quick-Release Self-Adjusting base plate is spring-loaded and pulls the shield back onto the helmet, sealing it tightly against wind and rain. The addition of a new five-stage rotating dial allows for fine tuning of the base place for easy shield adjustments.

Ventilation

A large lower three position vent, three upper air vent intakes and four uniquely positioned upper exhaust outlet vents combine with the Dual Density EPS liner to allow cooling air to travel unrestricted through tunnels created in the EPS liner.

Features:

  • Four shell sizes
  • Dual density EPS liner
  • Superior ventilation
  • 3D Max-Dry System II Liner
  • E.Q.R.S. (Emergency Quick-Release System) CWR-1 Shield System
  • Neatly secure chin strap

Expensive helmet with many flaws I purchased this helmet to replace my old Arai Quantum II. By the time I found out about all the problems, it was too late to return. First the good. The face shield is very nice. Easy to take on and off, and the detents are nice and firm allowing riding with the shield up. Excellent shield. Now the bad. Padding top: First, every Shoei has the same interior padding flaws. There are three strips of padding over the crown of your head. One over the top and two on either side oriented front to back. Unfortunately, the middle padding strip takes the full load of the helmet weight. Being bald after riding there was a huge dent in my scalp where the center padding strip lies on the very top of my head (yes, my head shape is quite normal). I added bike helmet padding to the side strips so the weight would be more evenly distributed between all three pads which helped somewhat. Arai has an oval pad that goes around your crown, which distributes the helmet weight more effectively. Padding front: The front of the padding is attached on the leading edge of the helmet shell. The problem with this is that the padding liner droops onto your eyebrows causing a feeling of sagging material over your forehead. You can push your fingers on the padding lining and see that it's not taught and sags a bit. You can kind of tuck the liner under your scalp using your fingers, but it eventually comes loose and sags over your eyebrows again. Arai has a "skull cap" interior padding design that doesn't hang down onto your face. Padding sides: This helmet is squeezes your head hard and the foam is not forgiving or comfortable. I eventually purchased the thinner padding, but it still wasn't enough to provide enough comfort beyond maybe a hour or two. Riding all day left me with a headache from the constant squeezing of my cheekbones. Strap: The helmet strap has a long (maybe 2") extra material presumably to prevent chafing of the strap web against your skin. Unfortunately, it's not attached to the strap webbing and it just flops to the side and provides no protection for which is was designed. Venting: The helmet venting is very weak at best with hardly any airflow. There really is nothing about this Shoei helmet justifying the high cost. If you charge a premium price, then the details matter. Getting another Arai, which is what I should have done in the first place. May 27, 2016
Fits my head perfectly. I am perfectly happy with this helmet. The fit and finish is excellent, the visor is clear however it does fog easily when not using the pin-lock system. Helmet is very light, and has not given me any head or neck aches after hours in the saddle. The metallic black is beautiful and highly recommended, already gotten lots of comments on the color. Make sure you try your helmet on in person before buying! A $100 helmet that fits properly will work better than a $800 helmet that does not fit properly. May 26, 2016
LOUD WHISTLE I've been riding for 5 years and heard many good things about shoei helmet. I fell in love with the graphics (graffiti with subtle math symbols) and decided to purchase it. I tried it on and it fit great, very comfortable. During my first ride, I notice it was a noisy helmet. I can deal with wind noise, but at speeds greater than 55mph there was a high pitch and very LOUD WHISTLE sound! I thought it was from the vents being open. After closing all the vents, it still made the whistle sound. The sound is louder when I turn my head to the right. It is very annoying. I don't think I will be using this helmet much longer. None of my previous helmets were this noisy, and for less than half the price. I'm sad to say how disappointed I am in the noise quality of the helmet. I hope I just so happened to get a defective helmet. May 26, 2016
Great beginner or intermediate helmet I purchased the Shoei RF-1200 as a much-needed upgrade to my Fulmer starter helmet. Originally I had wanted to avoid buying a helmet online, as I was leery of doing a sizing-shuffle. In the end I took some measurements and the sizing charts were pretty spot-on; the helmet fits great. The helmet construction is fairly light and the padding is excellent; this is a comfortable helmet to wear. Built in grooves allow for a pair of aviator sunglasses without any pain points. There are several air vents, and the airflow is noticeable, which is a big plus for someone who rides year round in Arizona. The only negative aspect I've found so far is the level of noise with the air-vents open is higher than I anticipated, but that's nit-picky considering it is more quiet than my previous helmet. Exceptionally light and comfortable I have to preface my review with stating that this is my first helmet ever and the only other helmet I can compare this to is the MSF helmet I was wearing during class. Helmet comes in a nice storage bag, optional neck curtain, breath guard, and pin-lock shield. I've tried on a dozen helmets of various calibers at a store, however I've kept coming back to SHOEI RF-1200, and finally decided to buy it. Medium size helmet fit me perfectly - I'm about 6'1'' 175lbs and of european origin (not sure if this makes a difference). After riding with a helmet for a few minutes, I forget that it's even on me - ventilation is great and I can feel the wind moving around my head; over-shoulder head checks are easy as the helmet doesn't interfere and feels very light. Unfortunately I cannot really compare this to other helmets, but this was a great buy nevertheless. May 25, 2016
I really like this helmet! The blue Valkyrie is beautiful in person. I don't know why they keep showing the grey one as the main view. It's a Shoei RF-1200. Watch the videos. It's reasonably quiet on the interstate although the angle does make a difference. If I drop my chin about 1/2 inch it does get noticeably quieter on the highway. I'm on a FZ-09 which sits a bit more upright. But most of the time I'm running all the vents wide open and wear ear plugs. SAVE YOUR HEARING NOW! My only real complaint is that I seem to exhale and fog my glasses more than I really think it should when stopped or getting ready to ride. Any airflow makes it go away though. May 24, 2016
Excellent helmet !! This is a great helmet. Styling and size is perfect, just follow the sizing guidelines. I was between sizes and went with the larger. The visor works nicely with good incremental clicks and positive lock. It seals out the rain with no leaking. I will be buying the Transitions visor when it comes back in stock. May 24, 2016
Outstanding I've been wearing the RF-1200 for a few months now and its held up very well. It is very light and comfortable and the field of view is excellent with the new shield design. Installing the pinlock into the shield makes it fog free and on the hotter days it flows a decent amount of air. I was looking for a higher quality helmet with longevity and I believe I've found it.
